It may be the defensive call dictating he hand him off which has bothered me. He should be shadowing him the entire game.
Yea Staley's defense was great, and Wade's defenses while inconsistent at times, always played well in big games and was elite through our playoff run.
McVay made a conscious decision to not go for the 3rd and 6, punt the ball, and put the defense on the field to win the game. That 60 sec drive with no timeouts sealed Morris' fate 100%. He's long gone.
Jimmy has a dominant running game and typically wide open receivers. The throws Jimmy makes and the throws Stafford has to make are completely different animals.
The offense did it’s job in regulation. McVay called 3 running plays and to punt because he trusted the D wouldn’t let Jimmy G go 90 yards with little time and no time outs.
He was a bunch of the time. And he sure looked like he blew it on that play to me.
You have a 7 point lead at home, other team on the ropes with no timeouts and 88 yards to go. With only 1 minute 20 seconds to go
The offense did its job at that point for sure.

If the other team doesn't have the ball.. it's much, much, much harder for them to score.

Waaaay too many blown coverages for a 12-4 team. There were 3-4 blown coverages that lead to explosive plays for them.

He's needs to go for the throat. It would show his team how badly he wants it and would have ended the game if we got a 1st down. He pussied out if you ask me.
But it's completely fair to question McVay's play calling.. his move at the end of the first half? Every guy on this board groaned when he went empty on that play.
I agree with someone saying do a roll-out on 2nd and 7 to Higbee and if it isn't there - run and slide before going out of bounds.
That would have been a good play call.

If it doesn't well, we still will be making the 49ers go 90 yards in less than a minute and a half
