I'm more livid with this team than I have ever been. Just sitting here stunned at what I saw. I've been saying on this board for a few years now that McVay's biggest weakness is that he's so convinced he's the smartest guy on the field that, in trying to prove it, the only person he ends up outsmarting is himself. That 3rd and 1 at the end of the 2nd quarter where he went empty backfield was one of the dumbest possible choices. Then in the 4th, he's got a defense that's gassed and which has been getting pushed around all game, Niners on their heels, minute and a half left and 3rd and long and he puts trust in his defense rather than his MVP caliber receiver to make a catch and just gives them the ball. For what? To make them burn a timeout? Big f'ing deal, he cost them a ball spike with that, who cares? Yeah that really made a difference. He didn't play for the win, because he didn't want it. Then that last drive, those last 2 plays were just so dumb with the way he lined everybody up. This coaching staff is never going to get us over the hill. It never will.
Worst part is, from my seats I can hear some of the things said on the sidelines. There was a lot of telling Havenstein to get his hands in (which he never did), but absolutely no urgency about how they were getting punched in the mouth. Heard Morris saying to give them the under but keep them in the middle. Yeah that worked out real well with that prevent fucking defense that still somehow had people out of position. Cherry on top being this was a fucking Niners home game. Even my section, which is usually reliably blue, was mostly red.
There's no way this team is going anywhere in the playoffs. The coaches aren't good enough. Even if we get past AZ next week, Green Bay is going to smack us in the mouth just like the Niners did today. No fucking point.
I'm selling my tix for next week on Ticketmaster and putting it towards next year's fees and watching it on TV. If the team doesn't care about winning, why should I care about showing up? Would rather just have the extra $1,500 than watch a bunch of soft, undisciplined people who can't finish a tackle or block and have expended all their capital on big names and have no means to address these problems.
