The thing about running the ball, is you have to stick to it. It’s like a great shooter in basketball—they might miss their first 5 shots, but the great ones keep shooting. You can’t give up after a handful of carries, which is what McVay does every week. Gurley especially, is the kind of back that needs to get a lather going. And once he gets that lather going he becomes a pain in the ass to tackle.

The line has not been good, so I’m sympathetic to McVay a little, but he’s got to be better. Jared Goff throwing 40, 50 passes a game is **not** the recipe for success.

Yeah... game script dicates play balance however.

I think in the 4th Quater alone Goff through 30 passes. (down 18 going into the 4th)

Plus our running game was not working.. when you are desperate for points, and far behind it's not time to try to be balanced - and on top of that do something that was gaining no yards and chews the clock.

My god there are alot of whiney spoiled little bitches on this site now... You guys never had a bad day? Never made a couple of mistakes and seemed to fuck up everything? You guys need a little dose of reality that the players are also human and will have ups and downs. Get off your high horses and support them even after a tough loss. We were 4-12 just 3 years ago for Christ's sake h

68 throws?
Yikes.
How many teams have won games throwing 50 times? Not many.

Because teams that have to throw that much are usually behind by double digits.. just like the rams were down 18 at the beginning of the 4th.

Also teams tend to get away from the run when its failing. Besides the turnovers the offense did plenty to win today. Even with their messy play if the defense had been average they would have won.

Yes. But I am looking at the last two years. The D being good is an aberration. We never put any pressure on Winston, a mediocre QB, and yet we never blitzed.

The fact that we never blitzed lands squarely on Wade's shoulders, nobody else's.

The entire OL was a problem. The entire D was a problem. Goff was a problem. But Havenstein directly caused three different TOs with his poor play and lack of awareness. The first INT was caused by Barrett hitting Goff's arm as he threw because Havenstein got planted on his ass. The third INT was caused by Havenstein running out to block for a screen (we didn't call a screen) and bringing Barrett out with him underneath the flat route we were running. The fumble TD by Suh was caused by Havenstein getting embarrassed by Barrett's spin move.

Now, that third INT was a total clusterfuck. McVay didn't get the play in one time, and nobody seemed to have any idea what was happening. But we weren't running a screen. Havenstein not knowing the play killed any chance of success.
Yeah. My point is that it was just a bad day for everyone on the line and Goff didn't help at times. I also think McVay didn't help much by putting them in pass pro on virtually every play.

I know but this stuff seems to not be only limited to the vent thread... Anyway... Bad day all around
It's going to happen even though we try to contain it. Mojo did a great job of condensing threads into the vent thread but sometimes certain individuals can't help themselves.

Tampa scored 61 offensive points in their first 3 games combined. They scored 48 OP today alone.
But yeah, let's rag on Goff because his NFL 8th highest passing yardage total, 36 first downs and 7 scoring drives wasn't good enough.....

That's actually pretty impressive if the other number someone presented above - only 10 clean pockets all day - is true.

I would like to see the turnovers stop, but still, nobody can say Goff was put in a position to be successful today, either by the coaches or the OL in front of him.

Bad team lose.

Defense: If Donald doesn't get pressure Rams don't get pressure. Mathews and Fowler don't get enough pressure themselves and need Donald to be disruptive. Without the pressure, the Rams zone defense gets torched. Bucs run game kept Rams off balance too. Don't think they blitzed much either. This week they were bent and broken in the red zone. Had they held the Bucs a couple of times it could have changed the momentum.

Offense: Pick your poison. Offensive Line, Goff, and McVay.

Offensive Line: They haven't adjusted to the pressure fronts. The OTs are getting beat on the outside. Run blocking is poor. Too many penalties today.

Goff: Missed some open TDs today. Just needs to make those throws. I think he can. A couple of bad decisions on the INTs. Rams still scored 40 points but, should have been more.

McVay: This is a tough one. With the poor offensive line play McVay is going to the pass early and often. The Bucs have a strong front line. The Rams have a poor run-blocking offensive line. Was McVay's only choice to pass a lot? I'm not sure but, it put a lot of pressure on the offensive line and Goff. They were teeing off and forced some bad plays.

This one is a team lose. The Rams may have been looking ahead to the Hags game. Lot's to clean up in a short week.

This was all on McVay and Goff.

What was the Ram total rushing yards?

Why did McVay keep having Goff throw to the sidelines and have the Bucs guard that edge of the field?

McVay needs to have Goff do the RPO because Goff can run.

When the Rams went for two after Peters returned it for a TD, Goff could have walked in from the 5-yard line. I was at that end zone today and kept yelling for Goff to run it in. And Goff was forcing the throw for an incompletion.

I am curious whether McVay called the plays or was it Shane Waldron like what Waldron did during the preseason?

Why not go Jumbo set and have an extra OL (David Edwards) and run?

The Special Teams seemed to regress. Why did GZ start the game with an out of bound kick? And why did he not kick off all the way to the EZ during the 4th quarter?

The Rams offense seemed too casual and did not operate with any sense of urgency. Why not do fast break football?

Goff’s wind up delivery is a big pineapple for a fumble. McVay must have Goff get rid of the rock quick vertically.

Yep. They better come back and beat the Seahawks on Thursday after this shameful effort. But that'll be hard to do since we're playing at Seattle on a short week and likely without Peters (due to that fat turd's illegal hit).

But Rob Havenstein needs to figure his shit out. He's been pathetic this year.

Havenstein's weakness is speed rushers. Gets beat by them all the time and other teams have finally figured it out.

I believe that we do have a solution to the OLs weaknesses.

Move Havenstein to right guard and put Edwards in at Right Tackle.

I think Havenstein would make an excellent right guard and although Edwards would get beat once in awhile since he is a rookie I still think he holds his own against speed rushers better than Havenstein.

Except that we ran the ball what? once out of the first 20 snaps? And that run was by Kupp?

Not sure how you can determine if the run game is working with that game plan. We ended up getting behind early and then pretty much HAD to abandon the run before we ever really saw if it could be established.
