Don’t think that at all…he’s more a burnout waiting to happen, imo.

It was more of a theory than anything, but how does one go from a perceived offensive 'genius' to overseeing such a shit show almost overnight ?

Eventually the defense has to make a play. They play bend don't break because of some deficiencies in the secondary...I get that.

However, a good team plays complimentary football and with an offense that can't get anything going most of the time, the defense has to be more aggressive and create some short fields to help that offense.

Giving up some drives that result in your offense getting pinned inside the 10 certainly doesn't help.

And giving up long drives in between our offense going 3 and out too often, only grinds down the defense to the point that they will break when it matters.

I would rather give up a 5 play drive and a big play TD every now and then, if I also got some 3 and outs and a turnover more often.

Right now they have a bad combination of defensive scheme and offensive struggles.

I mean, there has to be a practice squad player on some team better than Evans. What are they looking at? It is puzzling. Evans is as good as he will ever be and it's clear he is not an NFL player. It seems almost cruel to leave him out there.

McVay has had weeks to tweak the offense. Clearly the offensive line and running backs are a liability but on the rare occasion they establish any sort of running game he goes to the pass.

They could not protect Stafford who was erratic anyway. But admit you can't protect him and design more quick passes. Something.
Obushi Skura and you have a tremendously better player available in Daryl Williams not an all pro but at least he is solid he won't just put up a stop sign and actually hope you stop.

BTW, the Titans are showing how an aggressive physical defense can disrupt a finesse offense. Mahomes scrambling is the only thing that is saving KC in this game thus far.

Nonsense.
The D made more than enough plays to win. They stopped the Bucs. The O choked it.

My last vent is more of a question. What is with the stupid ass questions these reporters ask McVay after a loss like this? "What were you thinking when Cooper is scoring on that long pass play?"

What the fuck do you think he was thinking?! How about you ask him why Bobby Evans continues to be starting on the o line? Or why he gets away from Henderson when he's actually being productive? Why he hasn't done anything schematically (like use 12 personnel) to help the offensive line? What the fuck Liam Coen actually does since he obviously doesn't call plays?
And gruden. It's nice to just employ your friend but if your telling me gruden is a consultant from his couch and you have Cohen and obviously Mcvay and you still run the same run play up the ass of Evans. How about a fucking draw play a couple times or some tosses.

I don't know how much more credit I could have given the defense in my post. They held up until the last drive - that's a fact. They gave up the touchdown on the Bucs' final drive of the game. I know they aren't robots, that they get tired, make mental mistakes but the scheme definitely didn't help. When professional analysts who have played the game are scratching their heads and clowning on our scheme in that moment, I'm not sure what there is to argue.

But we're expected to believe they carry no blame for today's loss. Yeah, I'm sure AD, JR, etc., walked off the field after that last drive and said "We did our job! Just look at the stats!"

Ramsey literally said that...

"
“We have so many games where the defense will get a stop and we’ll got to the sideline and they’ll be like, ‘Y’all stay locked in. Y’all stay locked in. Y’all gonna have to go back out there again.’ It shouldn’t be like that. We gotta have some dogs who are gonna be like, ‘We’re gonna close this (expletive) out,’” Ramsey said.

Steve Wyche of NFL Network, who was in the locker room and sensed the Rams’ dejected feelings, says Ramsey wasn’t the only one frustrated by the way the game ended. Ramsey told him he didn’t think the defense should’ve had to be on the field after stopping the Buccaneers on fourth down with 1:57 to play."

I'm more focused on the D's scheme on that last drive, nothing more. Sometimes gotta win ugly and the defensive scheme didn't help there. Unfortunately we have to rely on them so heavily thanks to our shitty offense.
They shouldn't of been out there. If the offense doesn't suck rt now we're are gloating about the defense.
It's not a game of tag your it.
When they celebrated after the 4th down while yes premature but they though it's over. If you can get 1 first down you deserve to lose.

We would have loved to squeeze one more drop of from that defense but we couldn't and ok the scheme maybe could be adjusted at time but for all intensive purposes the game was over.

The defense did it's job though I'm shocked by some of the takes. Just the fourth quarter alone when defenses at normal use are already tired but 3 three and outs is ridiculous. We needed one play from the offense .....

Id I had told anyone before the game Rams score 13 pts. Who here says oh well that's a "W". Guessing not a soul.

I agree they shouldn't have been, but they were. Gotta play better defense schematically at that point. Just pissed they couldn't save us from our weak ass offensive performance. I definitely blame our offense way more than the defense, but I just can't give that shitty scheme at the end a pass either.

Tell it to Jalen Ramsey:
"“We shouldn’t even have been out there,” cornerback Jalen Ramsey said. “You can say it like it is — the game should have been over.”"

There you go. That's the truth and toe when players say stuff like that there's a divisiveness there and I know it's hard to hear but foolio might have been right.
Again add on there that you can just put on that super effort when you love the guy and you know he just lost his idol. It's concerning to say the least

What I never understand is how coaches who have super talented QBs never seem to pair that QB with a physical rushing attack. How would you a defend a team that could do that?

Kill you with big passing plays and can still run it down your throat when they want to. That is what the GSOT could at times with Faulk. Remember 255 lb James Hodgins at FB and Conwell at TE and of course Pace & Co. The 80's Niners could do that as well...even better.

But so many times you have QBs like Marino, Elway's early days, & Fouts who were aerial circuses, but couldn't win big.

Stafford suffered through that issue in Detroit and now here in LA. Sure OL is a huge issue, but even last year we have all acknowledged the running attack's deficiencies. It was a miracle they pulled it off last year with that running attack.

So McVay needs to truly marry his passing attack with a physical rushing attack and it needs to be fixed this offseason to stop this slide back to mediocrity.

Teams like the Niners, Titans, & Eagles lose OL over the years, but they still run the ball. If we don't have our best 5 we can't avg more than 2 yds a carry. Fix that and this offense could be top 10 again which is a start and could compliment the defense with more ball control and keeping them off the field.

No, they shouldn't have had to been back out there, but they were. And it was their job to stop.

Mind you, I don't blame Ramsey, AD, or the other players, I blame the playcalls by the DC that put them in a bad position.

This defensive scheme - especially on the last drive - doesn't play to the strength of generational talents like AD and JR. You think otherwise, and I've already noted the futility of trying to convince you so this will be the end of my discussion in this thread with you.

While I certainly get his feelings, the reality is they were out there. He wouldn't be as pissed if we won, but once again, I'm blaming our scheme at the end of allowing the Bucs to move the ball so damn effortlessly down the field on that final drive as to why we got scored on. Whether we like it or not, that was our final chance to win the game and we blew it with that weak ass scheme. It worked wonders for the majority of the game and yes the offense deserves way more blame, but the reality once again is that the defense had to play hero and wasn't helped by playing so off the ball and allowing players to get outta bounds. Ramsey himself played shitty coverage on Scotty Miller at the end.

Well.. sorry.. but both the players on offense and defense are saying it.. and Jalen added this quote too..

Ramsey: "We got to have some dogs who are going to be like, ‘We going to close this mother ... out.’”

Your futility isn't with me, it's with reality. It's not what I think, it's what actually happened in the game and on the field. It's what's shown in the numbers and the score.

The offense is an unmitigated disaster. The defense is good enough to win games.

Too funny when the first thing McVay says in his presser after the game is the defense did enough to give us a win the offense didn't do enough and that includes me. His whole post game is about the offense needing to be better.
Except for losing the game at the end the defense was pretty good.
