I've long had a hard time understanding why Tutu was drafted, and I have an even harder time understanding why they re-signed him this year. As I've said in the past, I don't hate the guy and think he has his uses, but McVay clearly doesn't want to use him.
Yeah, he stresses that his WRs have to bb physical and block in the running game. I mean, why draft a kid that is small by HS standards?

Has it hurt the Rams? A loss to Carolina and many are on McSnead's balls because of Tutu? Geesh. Tough crowd. While we've got the whine and cheese out, let's bitch about a wasted 6th round pick for PK!!! Anything else? Putting a LT with a blood clot problem to protect Stafford's blindside! How the fuck did we get to 9-3 with these idiots in charge! Goodness!

Yeah, that's what's really baffling. Tutu's size alone would limit his effectiveness as a blocker, and it's hard to understand why McVay would draft him if he's going to make blocking a point of emphasis for his receivers. Tutu's best use is as a downfield threat to either get behind the defense or clear it out for others, and if that's what he was drafted for, that's what he should be used for. Otherwise, what was the point?

That's one opinion. I'm more inclined to think a waste of money is paying Tre'Davious White 3.25 mil for 252 defensive snaps. That's about $13,000 per snap or 3/4 of a million per game. At least Tutu caught a pass that won a game.
As PhillyRam said, 2.5 mil per catch and probably won't be activated for the rest of the year.

They can still make mistakes and make enough good choices to balance the scales in their favor. Tutu is a bust pick for a 2nd round pick because he's not even getting playing time now. McVay has never used him much so he's a bust for us as a result. I know there is a crowd out there that believes Tutu would do well with more opportunities. That definitely COULD be true, but the problem with that is he isn't getting those opportunities and he never has under McVay.

Exactly why he's a waste of 10 mil on the Rams. Great way to say what many like myself believe.

So why isn't he playing? Also if he isn't playing isn't he technically wasting away on the bench while the Rams are wasting money for him to do so?

Probably because the x man Smith is doing the same thing and playing on special teams as well. Mcvay said it's a numbers game so Smith makes it easier for him.

Doesn't make my statement incorrect.

No it doesn't make what you said not the truth but unfortunately the other truth is that regardless of what he's averaging, he's probably not even seeing the field for the rest of the year. Tutu isn't worthy of being activated which to me signals waste of 10 mil for this year. Thankfully it's only for this year and I hope they don't resign him next year.

I guess we'd have to define "mistakes". They saved 15 mil by releasing Kupp and spent 10 of that on keeping Tutu.....to give them 4 WRs who knew the system. Then they signed Davante for 12 mil and drafted Konata. I'd say, they had a good plan and executed it. They're 9-3 right now and were 6-6 at this time last year. And at the moment they have an experienced 6th WR available if they need him, should one of the other 5 go down.

They spent 38.1 mil on WRs in 2024 and they're spending 47.7 mil on WRs in 2025 (including the 22 mil dead money for Kupp) an increase of 9.6 mil. The salary cap increased by 23.8 mil from 2024 to 2025. Again, I think they had a sound plan and executed it. They're 9-3 right now and were 6-6 at this time last year. And at the moment they have an experienced 6th WR available if they need him, should one of the other 5 go down.

I don't see the problem. But for some reason, we're 12 games into 2025 (way ahead of last year's pace) with very little to complain about, so some want to complain about wasted money and Tutu Atwell? Hey beat the hell out of that drum!!! Make Ginger Baker proud!!!! That song is a little stale by now though.

Sounds like we really just wasted 10 mil there thanks to the emergence of Xavier Smith.

Think it's helpful to go back to that draft and see what was available. Tutu was a miss as a pick and a miss as a resign this year but it's not like there weren't reasons for both. Just not great reasons.

From my memory, midround WR's (and those with speed) was a sh*tshow in that draft but McVay wanted to upgrade the field stretching part of the offense (hadn't we just traded cooks?) and that's what was avail.

Last offseason the field of WR's was brutal in FA and we were light at WR going into the draft (this was before we knew we could get Adams) so McVay decided to overpay for certainty in a WR he knew who had a skill that was coveted (speed) so that his offense would at least have a floor going into team build in the draft.

Hindsight is 20/20 and we shouldn't have signed him for that much but I at least understand both scenarios; Tutu has always been a player that's been about optionality in team build than actually being fully realized on the field.

Just discussing it, no one is crying lol, just stating the fact that it is indeed a waste of money. Sorry if that rubs you the wrong way because for whatever weird reason. I get the plan you are explaining but that doesn't mean it isn't a waste for spending 10 million on a WR that has 4 catches with no plans on activating him even though he's healthy. Apparently knowing the playbook means nothing as even a rookie like Mumpfield is getting nore consideration than Tutu. The only good thing about this situation is that it's only for this year and will push the Rams to do what they should have done last year, not re-sign Tutu.
