I look forward to rooting for Lance after the 9ers dump him four years from now and he gets his 2nd chance elsewhere- like Alex Smith.

IMO QBs that were of the one read then run type in college are the ones with the lowest ceiling in the NFL. Murray fits that mold as do guys like Mike Vick and Cam Newton. The vast majority never really master the ability to read defenses and go through progressions.

Wilson and Mahomes are not of that mold because they move to extend and run when they must. Even in movement both are still looking to pass.

Bad mechanics like I've seen in Lance are correctable issues. He knows how to go through his progressions. Does he make mistakes? Sure but what QB doesn't. But he's a pocket passer with good mobility to extend or move the chains. Depending upon Wilson, I think Lance will be the primary QB competitor that the Rams have to face over the long run.

Murray is entering his 3rd year and last year is the first year he showed anything beyond a one read then run type of play. Mayfield was verging on bust status until last year when he finally showed some ability to make reads and go through progressions. That was his 3rd year, so it remains to be seen if Murray can follow that developmental track. If he doesn't the Cards will remain at the bottom of the NFCW.

Lance comes in ahead of the developmental curve of both Murray and Mayfield. To label him a bust after his first OTAs makes zero sense. The Niners have two vets in front of him in Jimmy G and Rosen so they have no need to rush him and can redshirt Lance this year to develop him. I see Lance as a 2 year developmental QB with him being a legit starter able to read his progressions and play as a vet QB should. Don't underestimate him simply because we are Ram homers. With their o-line, run game and receivers this will be a very dangerous offense. Once they reload their defense they will become the #2 team in the NFCW with a seasoned Lance at QB.

IMO Seattle is squandering Wilson's prime years. He's only a year younger than Stafford but the Hawks are no where near the team that LA is. Also, it's going to take a couple of years for them to rebuild that roster on both sides. This could be the last year that they are #2 in the division.

Yeah, I used to think accuracy was priority #1, until Josh Allen. So many communicated that Allen could not hit the broad side of a barn & that the Bills drafted a bust & look at them now.
IMO Allen is the exception and not the rule.
Can a college QB overcome accuracy issues?
Yes , but it's rare.

If you don't factor in injuries when evaluating Shanahan I think you're missing something.
Much as I hate to say it I think he's McVay's equal at least in play design/play calling.
McVay has time to improve, I think he will. He's driven for sure.

Here is some Trey Lance footage at 49’er OTA’s. No concerns, at all.

I feel a little bad rooting against this guy, but the “good news” just keeps rolling out of SF.

Me; this dude’s accuracy is going to be his downfall.

When you start pumping up the rookie by saying “Garappolo had bad throws too” you got to wonder…

Getting nervous yet, 49’er fans?

Trey Lance tossed a "wobbler" of a pass downfield to wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who caught it while going against safety Jared Mayden for a would-be 50-yard touchdown. (Bay Area News Group)

According to Cam Inman's quarterback report, Jimmy Garoppolo was 6-of-11, and Lance was 6-of-10 during team drills. There were no interceptions, but linebacker Jonas Griffith came close to picking off Lance. It wasn't the rookie's only miscue.

Jacob Hutchinson (KNBR) noticed at least four poor throws from Lance during the Friday session, including under-throwing wide receiver River Cracraft down the left sideline. Hutchinson also notes near interceptions of Lance passes by defensive end Arden Key and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair.

The head coach was not too concerned.

"You don't have to get on him too much," Shanahan said. "When he doesn't have a good throw, he knows it as much as anyone. I just like that he keeps firing it. I mean, some are going to be good, some are going to be bad, but the more you get reps, the more you get your feet under you and know where you're going, the more consistent that will be."

Hutchinson clarified that Lance's day was not full of mistakes.

"To be clear, Lance also had some flawless, dart throws, which he's done in every practice, including OTAs," the KNBR writer wrote.

No one was perfect. Garoppolo had his own mistakes on Friday but did show a great rapport with wide receiver Mohamed Sanu on a couple of passes on slants over the middle.

I’d be excited if the Rams drafted Lance, great athlete, rocket for an arm & only 20 years old, plus I would trust our scouts, GM & Head Coach. I guarantee you this, 49er fans were elated they took Lance over Jones.
Wait a second, you (and the experienced professionals in the Niners’ organization) think you know more than noted NFL expert Grant Cohn!?!

You understand the man is on YouTube, don’t you?!?

IN comparrison, Stafford has thrown almost every pass he's made with nice tight spirals right on his targets numbers in three days of TC.

A lot of people are enamored with Shanahan. Seems like there are a few here on this board too. But I subscribe to the old "You are what your record says you are" philosophy. He's coach with 3 losing seasons out of 4. He's also in a position to survive another losing season. Lance may need more time. So he'll get a pass if they don't win enough this season.
I think Shanny is an elite OC. Not sure he's in McVay's class in terms of running the entire show as head coach but the way they've been hit with injuries makes it hard to say for sure.

I'll say this... Both Shanny AND McVay were held back by their QBs. That has become clear the past year or more. Neither Garoppolo nor Goff could step up and get it done in the big game. Both had a lot of struggles that showed them to be non-elite QBs.

So from there IMO the 9ers panicked when they saw the Rams upgrade with Stafford. And the move up to Lance demonstrates that. They knew they needed to upgrade and took a shot. I am hopeful that they took the wrong QB because that is the kind of thing that can sour an owner on a regime quicklike and in a hurry. And Shanahan being fired in SF is my ultimate hope there. I don't like that dude in our division.

I agree.

Regarding the injuries SF has incurred under Shannon; if they have rampant injuries again this year, I question their processes. IMHO, at that point I say they are doing something that contributes to the likelihood of mass injuries.

Going to stick with my previous prediction and I’ll go with my the odds as Ive made in the teens in betting this year so far.

How many QB’s have come from D2 to dominate not to mention be a ‘good’ QB?

Very little.

my bet remains bust

I would consider the source ... Grant Cohn.

32-year-old freelance writer and blogger who's father (the guy in the video with him) was a San Francisco sports writer.

Grant does not have any playing or coaching experience. He does have a YouTube channel. Media and technology options makes it pretty easy for anyone to express their opinions to a wide/public audience. I think it's really important to consider the source.

Grant Cohn may know his stuff but listening to about half that video, he strikes me as a football (Niners) fan with an opinion.

He's like anyone of us! Except he has a YouTube channel, and a lot less experience following football than a high majority of us.
You mean he’s like that Jake Ellenbooger or whatever it is?

With nothing to back up my "theory", I believe that the rumors about the 9ers drafting Mac Jones were true, and that they changed their mind with all the bad press. Maybe Shanny wanted Jones and FO over ruled and went with Lance or vice versa. Either way if there's any truth to my W.A.G., the team will literally come apart at the seams if things dont pan out, and pan out quick.
