Interesting point by Nate Atkins that I hadn't thought about, Rams play a league high amount of dime with Lake in the slot. Most likely when they go to dime both McDuffie and Lake will play inside during that alignment.

It’s not having 1st round picks that turns you into contender/winner - it’s what you do with it the picks ;)

Am I understanding this correctly?

This is a one year rental with TM being a free agent in 2027.

If so, seems like a steep price to pay. This clearly is about winning in 2027 and worrying about the future later. Having a 1st round pick under a cheap contract for 5 seasons is a lot to give up.

Well...It seems like a lot to give up at first glance...so I'll wait and see. I've not seen McDuffie much...but what I have seen was pretty good.

I expect McDuffie to play in the Rams star role. So he'll do some time in the slot, and move around depending on opponent.

Lake probably will find himself doing more safety stuff over the top and switch between that and some box work when he's covering strong safety responsibilities. But since the Rams don't usually designate them, I'd imagine those things get shared to some extent.

What would make sense in the draft would be a safety who can range deep. Thieneman in particular feels like a great fit for our secondary. Downs could probably add that too, he's not just a box dude but rather just more dangerous in the box I think. But we may see them add a corner and safety in this draft.
