It seems pretty clear to any unbiased observer that Les generally over pays and under-receives in trades. And to be fair to Les, the Falcon trade was a very good one, for sure. But he's always paid a very steep price for player trades -- Ramsey, Stafford, Von, and now McDuffie. I don't know why pointing out this rather obvious fact makes people think I don't like Les as a GM or that I didn't like the players he traded for. It's like they feel personally insulted or something. Weird.
You can't possibly surmise that without knowing what other factors were in play. You have no idea whether other teams had competing offers for some of those players, for example.

You say its an obvious fact. I say I trust the decisions of a superbowl winning GM more than I trust anonymous Internet commenters arbitrary concept of "value".

They saw. They acted. They conquered. No second guessing in their minds.
Why did this cross my mind when you said that :laugh4: .... I swear my brain is wired weirdly different

To me, that trade ended up in our favor big time because of his health. I wouldn't call it a big time fleece. We got Brockers, Janoris Jenkins, Greg Robinson, Alec Ogletree, and Stedman Bailey. Not exactly world beaters. That Robinson pick was atrocious.
You gotta separate the value of the picks from the results of players selected. Reason being, even if a GM fleeced a team, if they bomb all of the picks, it was still a fleece.

The Rams will pay McDuffie a lot of money so I think that rhey will draft a couple more corners, cut Williams, sign McCreary on a reasonable deal so this way the CB room will not be overpaid for the next 3-4 years. I would have Forbes play out his 5th year. And I would also resign Witherspoon on another cheap deal for depth. I know he didn't play well after the injury but I thought he played very well before that. I would see what Cobie Durant wanted but he's probably lost in FA. JMHO.

I agree it's obvious Snead does overpay the perceived value but in the end, what matters most is that the trade works out. Don't really know the true value until then. At that point, no one truly cares about the compensation. I just think Snead does what he has to do to close the deal, picks be damned hahahaha....Unfortunately we are at the beginning of this trade happening so knee jerk reactions is pretty much what you'll get.

I'd pass on McCreary now and look for a bigger CB.

When a trade is made, there's definitely a perceived value a team should get. Now lets just say for examples sake, we traded just a bit less for Stafford. Then the Rams would have fleeced the Lions that much more hahahahaha.......the actual result of whether a trade worked in our favor honestly depends on how everything plays out years down the road. An exercise in which we all guess as best as possible and hope it works out. Thank goodness that trade worked out like the Rams anticipated. Hopefully this one works the same way.
Or we offer a little less and the Lions GM decides to call SF one last time instead of agreeing to our deal.

After doing some calculations, I'm with @OldSchool: we fleeced them!

As it's been reported, the value of the picks for McDuffie is around 22.

The value of the picks for Ramsey was approx. #7. (2020 1st, 2021 1st, and 2021 4th)

Per the trade chart, pick #22 is 52% of the value of pick #7.

McDuffie is way more than 52% of the player that Ramsey was.

You'd be better served with less laying of judgment on others and more addressing the opinions portrayed in their posts.
I’m commenting on the actual contents of people’s posts, seemingly eager to see our minority coaching staff poached by other teams just to get a comp pick at the end of round three. I would rather keep the competent coaching staff with the Rams. You have always been a condescending poster to people who don’t agree with your “ analysis” so maybe you should check yourself and not be so sensitive.

My eyes can’t roll far enough into the back of my head over the “overpaid” complaints.

Shit.. even if he did… so?

McDuffie is a PROVEN commodity in the area the Rams had the greatest need.
Maybe there are better corners in the draft? But not right out of the gate.

And.. as Atkins said last week.. 10 picks were too many for this team.

And.. as others have pointed out, you’ll get two 3rds from Scheelhause.

Come on, dudes… celebrate!

I swear, people like you don’t care if our coordinators and position coaches are any good as long as they are black.
This is complete, utter nonsense.

There’s a difference between acknowledging the system and “not caring.”

The Rams are a coaching factory.. because they’re the Rams. Nothing wrong with being excited to get something back when a coach leaves.

Everyone here loves Les. Even when we're critiquing some of his moves.
It's talking out of both sides of the mouth that annoys me. Sorry but you cannot say somebody is bad at their job, which when you say he always gets fleeced in trades you're doing, and appreciate the job he does.

His job is very simple. He has to build a team that can win through free agency, trades and the draft.

Plain and simple no ifs ands or buts about it we are a successful team because of his ability to do his job. Is he perfect no he's not and I've never said he was. But the vehemence and the negativity associated with him being "always fleeced" is just plain inaccurate and it's disrespectful.

Sorry if I think the guys done a great job in building this team we love to root for I'll drop it and let people talk out of both sides of their mouth. Go ahead and talk shit about him and pat him on the back in one motion if that's the way you (not you specifically) think about him.

Of course, nobody knows for sure. We're all basing this on only the knowledge we have. But most neutral observers have generally agreed that the Rams tend to overpay for players in these big trades. When the Stafford trade went down, NOBODY expected it would be for two #1s AND Goff. And when you trade away your own player for peanuts and that team turns around and trades that same player for even more draft compensation, it's pretty clear you got less than market value. I love Les, but it seems pretty clear he's overly generous to other teams when it comes to player trades. Shrug.

Snead is a Robber Baron.
McDuffie should be entering the prime of his career.
I don't see any reason he won't get even better playing with this defense.
