It seems pretty clear to any unbiased observer that Les generally over pays and under-receives in trades. And to be fair to Les, the Falcon trade was a very good one, for sure. But he's always paid a very steep price for player trades -- Ramsey, Stafford, Von, and now McDuffie. I don't know why pointing out this rather obvious fact makes people think I don't like Les as a GM or that I didn't like the players he traded for. It's like they feel personally insulted or something. Weird.
Totally agree, its like Les is perfect lol... he's not but he's still awesome. Its a fan forum people, nit picking happens and that pretty fucking normal. For example, how many times have people complained about McVay's usage of timeouts, getting away from the run, not admitting he shitted in the porta potty? He's still the best coach but no one is fallible and that's ok. Fans wanting to get better trade value for the betterment of the team getting pushback for wanting it is kinda weird. I haven't heard one "let's fire Snead" comment yet so I guess we can hang our hat on that :laugh4:

Of course, I love Stafford. But at the time the trade was made, most were floored at the cost, which was way higher than anybody expected. And it's not as though that was an outlier -- it's Snead's MO. I love Snead, but he does tend to get the worst in trades. Why people deny this or try to pretend it's not true is one of life's strange wonders. It's a rather mundane, incontestable observation.
And with hindsight now, those Ram fans that complained about the cost (me included) were totally WRONG. Turns out, Snead & mcvay were right. Les fleeced the Lions by getting Stafford. End of story.

Probably because it's not very obvious to some of us on some of the deals.

Myself, and I believe NFL teams, focus more on the overall number of the selection as opposed to just the round.

Some hear 1st round pick and complain without even considering where that selection is in the actual round which is extremely important.

I've seen this even with draft selections. Someone once stated that a player wasn't worth a 1st round selection but would be fine in the 2nd round when the 2nd round was only a few picks away.
I don't like your snooty attitude mister, Jeremyiah Love is not worth a first round pick unless its the 13th pick!

Shout out to Mojo!

That said, I'm ecstatic about getting McDuffie. Hope they can somehow manage to fill the other CB spot with a really solid FA.
Agreed, I also believe that Jimmy Lake having known him at Washington played a huge factor. Sign Watson from the Chiefs and reunite the Chief corners, however, I truly believe if Josh Jobe gets out of Seattle, he'll be a Ram.

No one is mentioning championships just getting better value out of said trades involving actual players (Atlanta pick was a fleece but that was draft picks being traded not players). For example, we got peanuts for Ernest Jones yet he got traded to the Seahawks for even better picks. Snead is a still a great GM but no one is perfect. I know I've said all along, I'm greatful he's running the show. I highly doubt anyone is truly upset :laugh4:
Again what is the goal of an NFL team? Getting better trade value to satisfy the fans perception or to win? And I'm not saying angry but it clearly affects fans here. Instead of coming on and celebrating us adding one of the best CB in the NFL which was our unquestioned #1 need going into the off season people can't get over their own perception of trade value. And every time these big trades have happened the Rams have gotten better and the team we traded picks to for players have gotten worse.

I think we did an exercise in the offseason last year where people tried to name a player that we traded away that went on and got better. I don't think any were ever named. There were a couple that maintained or didn't fall off a cliff but nobody got better and I'm pretty sure nobody went anywhere and won a Super Bowl.

We traded first rounders away for Ramsey and Stafford. People complained we traded too much. Both were key players in winning a trophy. But hey the Jags and Lions who haven't done shit since then supposedly won the trade?

ROD jokes about fuck them picks but they also complain we give too many picks for players that make our team markedly better? There are adjectives to describe the line of thinking that Snead always gets fleeced but the mods don't like us using them.

Les Snead built this team that challenges every year and won a SB and all we hear is people saying he gets fleeced. We've made 3 big trades 2 of those GM's the other is his disciple who isn't going to get fired but they sure regressed after not winning anything. Give me Les Snead who can't make a good trade every day of the week I love getting fleeced if this is what the definition is.

Everyone here loves Les. Even when we're critiquing some of his moves.

When a trade is made, there's definitely a perceived value a team should get. Now lets just say for examples sake, we traded just a bit less for Stafford. Then the Rams would have fleeced the Lions that much more hahahahaha.......the actual result of whether a trade worked in our favor honestly depends on how everything plays out years down the road. An exercise in which we all guess as best as possible and hope it works out. Thank goodness that trade worked out like the Rams anticipated. Hopefully this one works the same way.

But acting like we want better trade value is kinda a bad thing is weird. I clearly gave an example of that with Jones. Wanting that doesn't make me like Les any less, lol, as I love that dude as GM because his strengths far outweigh his weaknesses. He's got brass balls, knows what he wants, and drafts pretty fucking good. I for one can only speak for myself, but regardless of what I think about the compensation, I'm definitely on record of saying I love the player. Definitely excited to see how this secondary rounds out. Anyone that is not excited at that part is definitely tripping so I'm with you there.

I look at it this way, you can be careful and not overspend, but more often than not you will end up not getting a player that you identified as being a great need.

Now, if there is a circumstance where a player is on the trade block, and its not a great need and more of a "nice to have" guy, then you don't overpay.

It is so bizzare to me

To me, that trade ended up in our favor big time because of his health. I wouldn't call it a big time fleece. We got Brockers, Janoris Jenkins, Greg Robinson, Alec Ogletree, and Stedman Bailey. Not exactly world beaters. That Robinson pick was atrocious.

I remember right after we traded for Stafford .... terms I saw here were - way overpayed, fleeced, and trade raped.

Years later, I think most of us feel pretty good about that trade.

We all wanted secondary addressed - Les just addressed it with an all pro player who is 25 years old.

The structure of that contract is going to be crucial and telling on what we can actually accomplish in FA. Fuckin Brinks trucks going to be busy driving to the Rams home office.
Rams do a pretty good job of distributing that contract money. I don’t see them locking into something financially crippling.

Honestly just discussing it at this point but definitely not taking it to heart about what went down. Happy that the secondary is addressed in a big way is what has got me excited the most. I'm even more excited to see more unfold when free agency starts as Snead seemed to signal he was willing to be aggressive and we've all witnessed what his aggression can bring to our team. Fuckin great time to be a Rams fan.

I'm disappointed. We overpaid. #29 for McDuffie straight up felt iffy but fair enough to me. Throwing in all the additional picks does not sit well with me. But I guess the good news is we addressed a major need.
They saw. They acted. They conquered. No second guessing in their minds.

Agreed, I'm sure they already have a framework down as to how they want that contract to look. Its probably all the little details that go into that contract that are going to take more time to put together. Maybe Snead will close the deal with that ice cream clause again
