After allowing my anger to subside, I think they made the right move. Looking at Gurley's contract, it would have been a pain to get out of it next year too.

I'm really glad to read this, jrry. I respect the hell out of you as a poster and a fan. I was hoping you were writing out of emotion.

It was a business decision. That no other team in the league would give us even a 7th, knowing they could get out of it without the additional guarantees we would have had if we kept him, tells us all exactly what we need to know.

As fans, we are emotionally upset because we came to appreciate what we had pre-injury. That the entire league and the Rams brass as an extension spoke clearly about his current value tells me all I need to know. It was the right move. It sucks as I'm a huge TG30 fan, but it's the reality of dealing with the cap.

DAMN IT MAN! Nothing to do but turn the page and move on. I guess we'll draft a RB at some point.

And the Coronavirus situation probably complicated things immensely, limiting interviews and physicals.

Man please!! McVay is who he always has been a throw first coach he benched Gurley for a fumble he gets away from the run game when it’s the only thing working he tells Gurley he’s gonna run him only to give him 6 carries. McVay isn’t innocent in this debacle. Gurley was a great teammate never negative always giving guys support. If you believe you can contribute and the coach keep telling you he’s gonna run you and then don’t and you’ll be pissed too.

As I mentioned in another post upthread, McVay repeatedly blamed himself this season at post-game press conferences for not using Gurley, even when it was clear at times when there was more to the story. He stepped up and took a lot of heat for that and never once tried to throw Todd under the bus or use his knee as an excuse.

Personally I think McVay WAS at fault in the way he used Gurley. However, that doesn't give Gurley a full pass for sulking.

It's just too bad they couldn't work it out. Did we need more proof that things are going to hell?

Exactly. Neither party is totally blameless in this.

At the end of the day, it's mostly just bad luck, because if Gurley doesn't get hurt toward the tail end of 2018 and continues playing at the same level, he's still on the team and this thread doesn't exist.

That was when John Shaw had the final say. Man, what a piece of shit he was. Half the guys he took in those drafts were guys that Robinson didn't even want. And Robinson DID want Thurman Thomas, who, let the record show, worked out a helluva lot better than Gaston fucking Green did.
Fortunately our management communicates well these days.

Cowherd on the release of Todd Gurley.

“Last year Sean McVay would say ‘The reason we’re not using Todd Gurley is because I’m an idiot! Haha! This is all on me!’ – that was the ‘story’ the Rams were projecting. But I live in Los Angeles and know players and people on the staff. That wasn’t the REAL story. The story is that Todd Gurley got paid, Todd Gurley got hurt, and Todd Gurley changed. He’s not great for the locker room right now, and they wanted him out for a year and couldn’t figure out how to get rid of him. I've got intel on this. They don’t want him there… What was being said behind closed doors was ‘HOW DO WE GET OUT OF THIS CONTRACT?’”
Honestly I think there's an element of truth to this. I hate to say it. I really hate to say it. But go look at Todd's Twitter & IG feeds. Look at what he posts. Todd has fast become a huge social media driver, he's one of the top 10 NFL players in social media reach -- his "reach" is currently 30 million (whatever that stat is). One of his last posts was some C.O.D. 4-man event he played with/against some other stars. He's regularly on NBA podcasts.

Now, go look at AD99's. ya he's mad right now. Is Todd??? doesn't look like it. But look at AD99's twitter feed. It's full of FOOTBALL and WORKOUTS with KNIVES and crap like that. Ok he's launching is own line of workout clothes, and does other ads & such but at the end of the day AD99's life is about FOOTBALL.

"Todd Gurley changed". Yes, he did. Money does that to SOME people, not others. One of the last vids I saw on his feed, he was interviewed by some guy & told him he's been in the league 6 years now, while most player's average career span is 3.5 yrs. In dog years he's old, and he sounded like he felt it. By the end of that video it almost seemed to me like he was ready to retire & do something else.

Something happened to his knee (and the fallout surrounding it) which NO ONE on the Rams, not Todd, not McSnead, or anyone else has ever clearly explained. The interviewer in the aforementioned video even asked Todd how he deals with injuries & Todd came back with that quote about how long he's been playing. There's so much going on with him, his contract, his relationship with the Rams, how he really dealt with CJ being on the team to save the Ram's SB run, that we will NEVER know. Considerations such as cap hit numbers, comp picks lost, contract clauses etc. offer us no clues as to why he was released because, as fans, we really have no idea what's going on right now with him or McSnead. We're all just guessing here as to why our former All-Pro / OPOY RB was out-right released. Sure a huge part of it is his cap hit, but so is Jared's -- we didn't release him now, did we? so is AD99's & we didn't release him either.

The Ram culture is "we not me". I just don't think Todd was all in on that last season. It makes me think he deserved to have that "C" handed to someone else in the locker room. Yeah maybe he'll go all Rocky III on us & move to another team & find that "eye of the tiger" again, but he wasn't gonna do that as long as he was in La La Land.

But, I'll never forget what he gave us Rams fans. He was special. He really was.

like its pretty clear Todd wasnt in a good mood for all of 2019. Who would be considering he was probably being told he'd never run like a freight train ever again

I just think its ultimately irrelevant.

"Bad attitude" or not his health determined he wasnt a top back (and shouldnt be paid like one) and the Rams probably did him an additional favor not running his health away even more. Case closed.

Then why not keep him this year?
The 10 million payment mattered to someone and that’s Kroenke
Come on man. Has Kroenke ever NOT spent the cap? That $10 million doesn't matter to SK because he wasn't NOT going to spend it. This is a pretty well senseless post.

It would really be then that I would say Fuck HIM. For now, I hope he doesn't sign in the NFCW and I really actually hope he retires because that would help put this thing to bed.

I will always be a Todd Gurley fan.

All he did was give his best for the team. His best game may have been the opener against the whiners in 2016. He got hit behind the line of scrimmage every time he touched the ball and fought every time to gain no yardage or minimal yardage. He could have had a minus 50 yard game but managed to have a 10 yard game or something. True grit in that game.

.

You and I don’t always agree 100% but a good fair amount of the time. This game is also what really stuck out to me for games regarding TG30. That game showed you what he had inside of him.

That game and the one against the Seachickens that he took over the game and demoralized that whole stadium are the two games that will always stick out in my mind regarding TG.

So hurt it wasn’t In the cards to place himself up there with ED, Faulk, and Jackson as One of our greatest Ram RB careers.

I hope the new guys turns out to be something special. I always liked the RAMS having the best running back in football. Done it many times. Dickerson, Faulk, Gurley and there is more.
Thanks Todd, class act.

You know what, I may not be thinking clearly as my business is now shut down, but here goes.

The 2019 Rams Sucked! So, I'm all for trying to replace losers with winners.

Bye Bye Gurley!

Bye Bye Brockers!

Bye Bye Littleton!

Bye Bye NRC!

Bye Bye Matthews!

Did I forget anyone? If I did, Bye Bye to them too.

Can't wait to see who steps up and if they can make the Rams winners in 2020!

I love reading these posts. If Henderson goes for over 100 yds in the first game and the Rams win 95% of the people on this board will be saying “Fuck Todd Gurley!” Lol.

Isn’t that our job?!!

Too much talk of what Gurley did in the past. Harsh realities of last year:

-Never had a play for over 25 yds
-lost most of his explosiveness
-sulked on the sidelines half the time
-hard to remember him being a difference maker in a game
-knee is obviously shot

Lets face it.

If it’s not the knee, it was the relationship.

Whatever it was, you could see it; “he didn’t look the same”. And, if that’s what to expect again in 2020... this makes sense for the team.

I don’t like seeing him go either, because just a blink ago he was a star.

REPORT: FALCONS, DOLPHINS SHOWED MOST INTEREST IN TODD GURLEY BEFORE RELEASE

Before the Los Angeles Rams released Todd Gurley on Thursday afternoon, they shopped him across the NFL. The Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons showed the most interest in Gurley during trade discussions, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and could be teams to watch in free agency.

The Falcons moved on from their own Pro Bowl running back this offseason. Atlanta released Devonta Freeman this week and will be in the market for a starting running back for the 2020 season.

While Freeman played high school football in North Carolina, he became a star with the Georgia Bulldogs. The 25-year-old could view the Falcons as an opportunity to remain a featured running back and it would also allow him to return to the state where his football career really blossomed. However, the Falcons only have roughly $2 million in cap space, per Spotrac.

The Dolphins reportedly signed former Pro Bowl running back Jordan Howard to a two-year deal this week. However, the contract is only worth $10 million total and Miami’s front office still has plenty of cap space to use this offseason.

Gurley could potentially land a more lucrative deal in Miami. It could also give him the chance to join a team that is on the rise and could draft Tua Tagovailoa with a top-five pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

While Gurley just hit the open market, it won’t be long before his phone starts ringing with offers.

They wanted him to restructure his contract and he refused. If so, isn’t it that simple? One thing for sure, paying star running backs huge contracts is clearly a risk, because it doesn’t leave much room if you have a pro bowl QB on your roster

A lot of posters seem to think the move may be a McVay and TG relationship issue. Well I hope to hell it is not. If you can't remain above the fray in the world of professional sports you will find yourself in it often. Lets hope this isn't the case or boy wonder will be in double trouble.

I'm shocked there are either major issues with an attitude problem towards McVay and Snead from TG or they're not as smart as I thought they were. I'm at a loss.

It was time to move on!! The contract they gave him did not make sense.McSnead learned a tough lesson.

The Rams will be better moving forward without Gurley. He will go down as one of the better Ram RB’s & bust at the same time.

Todd Gurley still has time to prove The Rams wrong. I’ve been wrong on some of The Rams cuts as well with Clay & Coleman-Robey. Maybe that was a USC thing. I”ll be blown away though if The Rams trade away Robert Woods.
