If Flacco slides earlier, of course it would be moot. The hit wouldn't have happened. I've essentially already mentioned the hit was intentional. "...no matter when Flacco slides." Really? So you're saying that if Flacco slides five yards, ten yards, sooner Alonzo would've still cleaned his clock? That's silly.I'm not sure it is moot. Alonso's hit looked intentional to me. I'm not sold he pulls up no matter when Flacco slides.
Flacco doesn't bear the responsibility here any more than a WR who goes up for a catch bears the responsibility for a SS launching into his head with the crown of his helmet.
As for the offsetting PFs, that would have been a weak move by the refs considering Suh's actions after the play. They made the right call letting that go rather than rewarding Miami.
And the so called greed of a QB is completely irrelevant. The hit was illegal and it was hard and knowing what he was doing would get him a flag and with the violence of the hit and the fact it was straight to the head of a defenseless QB who is protected by the rules it also makes it dirty. You know damned well Alonso knows better than to do what he did and did it anyways.
LOL Now Suh grabs the backup QB by the throat and poked a dude in the eye. Yeah nice clean team there.
Include @kurtfaulk and @LACHAMP46 and everybody else who's standing up for Alonso but you guys are making him out to be an even bigger scumbag than @jrry32 and I are making him out to be. If he wasn't going for the big hit and new he Flacco was going to be sliding then he was diving straight at the dudes knees. Take your pick either way the guy made a dirty intentional play. He was either head hunting or knee hunting either way it was dirty. If Flacco slides earlier, of course it would be moot. The hit wouldn't have happened. If it's not Flacco's responsibility to slide, who's is it? He was the QB running the ball on the play. To slide or not to slide? That is HIS question to answer. Nobody else on the field is responsible for that. Nobody.
Whether or not it would've been a "weak move" is a subjective matter. Objectively, the Ravens' player hit Alonzo in the head. He did so with enough force to knock Alonzo's helmet off. That, by rule, is a personal foul. If you want to throw a flag at Suh as well for his part, I can't argue against that.
From what I saw, nobody got that play correct. Players, refs, nobody...
I'm good, I saw a dirty hit that was illegal. Nothing else needs to be said, he knew what he was doing and did it anyways. There were two possible things Flacco could have done that play and either way it was dirty by Alonso.Do you really want to go through this argument again?

Actually i said he may have thought he was diving for the 1st down seeing it was 3rd down.

The prosecution says he would have hit him late anyway?
How is someone's intent found?
By prejudices..that's how...
Evidentally the prosecution are all old offensive players.
We agree to disagree..nuff said..bedtime.
That explanation makes even less sense. When a player dives, he does so at full speed and propels himself forward. Flacco slid. That meant that he was slowing his momentum. If Alonso were anticipating a dive, he wouldn't have been anywhere near Flacco's head on that play.
We're going in circles here. He slid too late. That was the catalyst to the situation.

Yea, and if Adams had just gone down here, everything would have been fine:

Those poor defensive players being lured into a penalty trap. They had no way of preventing what happened. Those wily offensive players just tricked them.
You're such a lawyer. My conversation has always been about a qb being greedy sliding late.
.
God forbid that ever happens to Goff, I guarantee you'll lose your crap.
Goff has never been greedy like that.
.
Here's where we started:
I gave you multiple examples of Goff being greedy. I'm not sure how your logic makes sense here. It's basically, "Yea, Goff gets greedy when he runs, but there's no chance he'd get greedy on a play where he slides."
That's not a logically consistent argument. And yes, you're right that I am such a lawyer. My job is picking apart logically inconsistent arguments.
I'm just not sure why you think there's a difference (other than you not wanting to give any ground in this discussion). But this conversation has basically run its course. You're right about that. Good night.
I'm not going to comb through everything as I'm quite certain I didn't say Alonzo's hit was clean. I believe I said he was going for a kill shot. I'm not defending Alonzo.Include @kurtfaulk and @LACHAMP46 and everybody else who's standing up for Alonso but you guys are making him out to be an even bigger scumbag than @jrry32 and I are making him out to be. Where/when did I place the entire blame on Flacco? I didn't say Flacco needed to slide five to ten yards away from the nearest defender. Why are you implying I did? And you want to talk about rational??So it's Flacco's fault because he didn't slide when he was five to ten yards away from the nearest defender? Does that sound rational to you?
I didn't say otherwise. It was a dirty hit. I did say Flacco is responsible for sliding and that encompasses the timing of the slide. Again, had he slid a little sooner...Who's responsible for the illegal hit? The guy named Kiko Alonso.
I'm a hockey player. Defenseman. I play D because that's where most of the physicality happens. That's what I enjoy the most.I played safety, and I liked to play on the edge. I was myself guilty of some dirty plays way back in the day when I played. That's why I feel quite comfortable calling a spade a spade here.
