They were in a nice home. But he recently purchased a home that is more convenient to his girl's activities. Look his marriage dynamic. Matt nearly lost his wife. That is a traumatic event. You think about all the plans that may never happen. You understand the importance of the years you have together. No way will he play until his arm falls off. He knows, rightly so, that being a husband and father always come first. He will walk away with his health, his money and most of all to be a full time dad to his girls.

IMO his spinal injury was a wakeup call. Everytime he walks out on that field he's risking his health. I simply don't see him playing beyond 2024. Matt missing time this year is a wakeup call to Snead and McVay as well. How much more can that body take? For Matt to play beyond 2024 would probably mean renegotiating his contract. IMO Kroenke won't approve going out on a limb for even more guaranteed money. Their whole aim has been to get the deadcap under control not increase it for an injury prone player. That is their lesson learned from Gurley.

First-off, thank you for the response.

Also, I appreciate the "IMO" comments because they reflect an opinion ... which is legitimate.

Personally, I think you are expressing some reasonable / general comments that may reflect the thought process and emotions of many people. However, in my opinion, people are different ... in their views, attitudes, wants, desires and Many Other Things.

Accordingly, what you are saying is just conjecture about someone you don't know. It's reasonable conjecture ... to suggest Stafford will retire after 2024 because he needs to return to his Mother Planet, would be Unreasonable Conjecture ... but it's still just conjecture.

Personally, I don't know.

Again, thanks for the response.

What the Rams are thinking re: Stafford will have a lot to do with how he plays in the next month or so. If he survives the rest of the sched and gets us into the playoffs and especially if he wins us a game in the playoffs it will mean they're less worried about his contract, due to the production plus the expected cap increase.

But if he can't stay healthy or if we miss the playoffs, which is largely dependent on Stafford playing well, then maybe they start to doubt that plan they were under when they paid him that contract.

I think the Rams are practical in these matters and willing to cut bait when necessary. We're midstream right now in that decision process I think and it's largely up to Stafford. He was going to need to have a strong season this year to rebuild that faith, that's just how it is in this league. Especially with a team like the Rams.

Stop.

Stafford is signed through 2026. His cap hit goes way up but that's irrelevant to where he lives.

Just stop.

Stafford is going nowhere, period.
He's playing some of the best ball of his career, and with the young nucleus of talent at WR, he's got to be salivating.
With how this season has played out, Netflix has hit a home run with Stafford being featured in "Quarterback" which will air over the summer '24. His guaranteed money ends after 2025, which 10 mill of salary and 6.5 mill of roster bonus is already set in stone.
We are lucky to have him, and the way the offensive line seems to be improving, we should be figuring out ways to keep him longer, not having him leave earlier

You could make a case that Stafford is the best quarterback the Rams have ever had. Certainly the one with the best arm talent, ever.
Combine that with his toughness. I hope he is one of the guys that has to have the jersey torn off his back.
He gets one more SB win, he is our best EVER !

If he wins the Superbowl this year with this team I would say he is the best ever other than that I'm just not sure.

Stafford gave an interview a little over a month ago where he said he has no plans to retire anytime soon. MS said he loves to compete and gets joy from the game. He also said he loves the camaraderie in the locker room and knows that's something he'll never have again when he's done playing.

A lot of successful players know that playing in the NFL is living a dream, and they want to extend that dream as long as possible.

MS shoots down retirement talk in the first five minutes of the video below:

Staffords arm talent is still elite. Flat footed, feet pointed the other way, throws a perfect pass only our receiver can get25 yards down the sideline. Until his arm talent falls off you focus on his protection. Keep him upright he will take us where we want to go.

To think... I became a Rams fan because I liked their helmets and that "Roman Gabriel" was a cool name...:laugh2:

Also because they beat the Bears and my older brother beat me up...:fistbump1:

Same here except, for me, it was less about Gabriel's name, and more about how cool he looked on the field.

I'm not sure where the Rans will go with 2024 draft picks but our offense looks nothing like what McVay had when he first came to the Rams. And that's not a criticism, but those jet sweeps were sort of effective in slowing down the whiners at times.

Love Staff, but in this qb-rich draft, we'd be silly not to find and develop his eventual replacement. It's fine if we don't, but we need to understand that we'll eventually need to give multiple first-round picks for "the guy" if we don't.
I just don't think you win in today's NFL without a stout QB anymore. They can be attained in a variety of ways. Let's find the next diamond and give him a few years to cook.

The Rams may not be in position to get one of the top-QB prospects.

It will be interesting to see where Daniels, Penix and Nix (plus McCarthy if he declares) shake out with William and Maye. That’s six.

There are enough QB-needy teams out there that all six could be gone before the Rams select. If one or two are available, the question becomes whether the Rams talent evaluators and decision-makers like those one or two guys enough to pull the trigger.

I do agree with the general thought that if a team really likes a QB, and is in a position to draft him, they need to pull the trigger. It’s such a vital position.

All that being said, my current best guess is that the Rams do not go quarterback in Round One.

Nothing should ever be off the table.

But taking everything into account, I don't think we maximize this teams current and long term potential forcing a QB this draft.

Tangentially, outside of Maye and Williams, Daniels is the most intriguing and seems to have done the most this year to put himself into a conversation of being a top QB. Nix, Penix and McCarthy have warts but could be intriguing at the right price point (not necessarily 1st round IMO).
