Rams would be crazy and stupid to use a premium pick on a QB next year. Thankfully, they are neither.

Stafford has repeatedly said he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

Rams have a chance to win another ring with MS, AD, and CK. They will rightly surround them with as much talent as possible. This off-season they will have plenty of needs on OL, DL, LB, and DB, just for starters.

No way they waste their 2024 first rounder on a QB just to hold a clipboard for the next 3 years.

yeap, let's not be idiots like the packers drafting love.

No, but it does serve to illustrate the *potential* costs.
Packers did *NOT* go all in to maximize Rogers window.. and did not win another Super Bowl.

Love looks good, imo.. but, is he worth that decision?

They've said this year isn't a rebuild and honestly they're not playing like a rebuilding team.

Add in an upgrade for the OL either at LT or Center and be draft or FA
Add another RB to rotate with Williams same as the OL draft or FA
Add another WR with Robinson a FA and Atwell 1 year from it preferably that can return kicks

Add in an edge Likely FA
Add in a #1 CB (which I'm thinking will be their #1 pick hopefully in Wiggins)
Another DT

More cap space than we've had in a long while, a 1st round pick for the first time since 2016 and a lot of picks. This is all doable and a more likely scenario than resetting everything after bringing back Stafford and Donald for another year.
Helluva post, man.

IMHO, the only way the Rams draft a QB in the next draft is if someone they really, really, love falls to them at some point in the draft.
Otherwise, they are going to reload for another SB run.

Nick Mullins, Daniel Jones, Tyson Bagent, Mac Jones, Sam Howell, Geno Smith, Tommy Devito ( I could honestly go on)...

All have better completion stats than Stafford this year. It is not, alone, a demonstrative stat.

It should absolutely be used in conversation of how Stafford is playing but not by itself and things like QBR and EPA are far more effective (yet also imperfect) to show how a QB is doing.

I think OP knows this, he's proven to be an astute poster before.

Perhaps the poster likes the young QBs (though there are some real warts on these guys) and his premise is simply him working back from the answer he wants to have.

Stafford isn't the QB he was even 3 years ago but he's right around top 10 this year. I'd rather surround him with talent and push for a superbowl than draft a kid with holes in his game high (which all the guys not named Maye and Williams have - and even they are not perfect).

Geeze...some folks don't know when you got it good. I don't think there's more than 5 QBs I'd take over Stafford...and he can go another 3 years as starter. He's 8th in the rankings.

The OP has to be in panic mode...:dizzy:

Not arguing with the numbers, and age catches-up with all players. However, when I read this post, I thought ... "Is Corbin watching the games?" ... then I realized you started this thread in the middle of the Rams' game.

So maybe, that's my answer ... you are looking at numbers but not the games or Stafford's actual play.
I said pretty much the same thing...

We should worry about building an absolute unit of a team. If we build a dominant roster, you can win with a rookie (i.e. Brock Purdy). By giving Stafford every chance to succeed, you ARE setting up for the QB of the future. He doesn’t have to come in this draft.

If we go with a mid to late round QB similar to last year then I'd like them to take a flyer on Sam Hartman. He didn't kill it in big games in that one season with ND but he's got a ton of snaps over the years with high production at Wake Forest. He is a bit small but if we're going QB mid to late rounds it will be that backup type regardless. He can make all the throws, and has nice touch on a lot of the throws that would benefit him in this offense. Which is to say he can place those underneath passes real consistently but also take shots deep.

Doesn't have to be him but someone cut from that type of cloth I think is what they need this year. Of course the guy we pick will be the one McVay has a bro connection with in the whiteboard session most likely. But I think going the backup route is a good way to meet in the middle between recognizing that Stafford has hard miles but also that there is no rook who is going to come in and be a better option than him.

I don’t see anything in Stafford’s play that signals it is time to sell out for any QB in this draft.

That said, this might be the year they have the highest draft slot coming over the next two or three years.

If there is someone they love who could sit for a couple of years behind Stafford and be ready to take over in year 3, after another SB win, that might be the best scenario.

I do think there are other needs that need to be addressed in this draft in order to win that next SB. And, think that is how they will handle 2024 but I haven’t been close to their draft board and I don’t see that changing either.

You forget it's not whether his arm will hold up for 3 more years. That is completely irrelevent at this point in Matts life. He's a husband and father who can retire in 2025 never work again if he doesn't want to and still secure his kids future. Believe it or not being able to be a father to his kids may be more important. His biggest career objective was achieved with the ring now he's finishing his financial obligation.

You never get those years back, so only a fool would turn his back on his family. You have to believe he made promises to Kelley to finish the time he probably agreed to when he signed the extension. 2026 & 2027 are basically void years. It's not a matter of it being soley Ram's decision to make. Last year Matt said he intended to stick to his career plan. He just bought the kind of home you buy when you are settling down permanently, not the kind you buy if you intend to extend your career.
