You forget it's not whether his arm will hold up for 3 more years. That is completely irrelevent at this point in Matts life. He's a husband and father who can retire in 2025 never work again if he doesn't want to and still secure his kids future. Believe it or not being able to be a father to his kids may be more important. His biggest career objective was achieved with the ring now he's finishing his financial obligation.

You never get those years back, so only a fool would turn his back on his family. The Rams are contenders for a title every year with Stafford and a Good O-line. But I agree with you on your point. A solid Quarterback room is a must in today's NFL. 17 games is no gimme for any QB, 'cause shit happens. I think the Rams learned their lesson not investing in a serviceable backup. If you have a QB rated high on your board that falls to you in a draft, you take him, every year. Load up. Competition breeds excellence. Fuck, I hate to use the 9ers as an example, but Brock Purdy is the prime case study for why a deep shelf insurance policy on the most important position is a smart idea. I think McVay can coach up any QB with talent. Plus, our reserve players deserve more than a "camp arm" to improve. Bad QB play has been fucking players up lately. Minshew's pass the other day nearly got his receiver killed. Our team improved the moment we showed Rypien the exit.

They have to take a chance and draft one to develop maybe with one of the 3rd rd picks. Right now I want to see the first 2 picks used on CB and Edge. However, that could all change after free agency.

If you wait until you need a QB to go looking for one, I don't think that's wise.

Every year they should be bringing in new candidates. Odds of finding a franchise QB on demand seem very low.

It's really hard to find a good QB.
It's even harder to win a Super Bowl.
I think they'll be in good shape rebuilding the team when Stafford is gone and will put themselves in a position to either draft one or make a trade for one when the opportunity happens.

They were in a nice home. But he recently purchased a home that is more convenient to his girl's activities. Look his marriage dynamic. Matt nearly lost his wife. That is a traumatic event. You think about all the plans that may never happen. You understand the importance of the years you have together. No way will he play until his arm falls off. He knows, rightly so, that being a husband and father always come first. He will walk away with his health, his money and most of all to be a full time dad to his girls.

IMO his spinal injury was a wakeup call. Everytime he walks out on that field he's risking his health. I simply don't see him playing beyond 2024. Matt missing time this year is a wakeup call to Snead and McVay as well. How much more can that body take? For Matt to play beyond 2024 would probably mean renegotiating his contract. IMO Kroenke won't approve going out on a limb for even more guaranteed money. Their whole aim has been to get the deadcap under control not increase it for an injury prone player. That is their lesson learned from Gurley.
