Yeah. It’s still surprising that Purdy lasted so long in the draft. He looks like a second or third round QB. The mental part is usually the biggest obstacle. That’s the thing about purdy. Hes got a 7th round arm. Between the offensive scheme and (let’s give credit where credit is due) purdy’s pre-snap reads, his inferior arm is well hidden. He’s excellent at floating a touch pass to to “the right guy” , but he lacks the ability to consistently drill a pass into a tight window.
To wit:
1) ironically, the only “close games” the 9ers won were beating a young “happy to be here” packers team and an imploding (thanks coach) lions team in the playoffs. The early season win vs the Rams was about the only “one score” regular season game the 9ers won all year. They either came out blasting or they got there ass handed to them.
2) go back and watch how many times purdy missed a TD in the back of the end zone from over 20 yards out during the playoffs.
Go back and watch how many times Stafford threaded the needle in “rgotta have it” situations in the 2021 postseason.
See the difference? One guy was picked #1 overall. One was Mr irrelevant.
As always, FUCK THE 9ERS.
I wasn’t impressed. They took Pearsall in round one which was a bit early. Most projections had him at the end of round 2. But who knows if NFL teams liked him better than the draft guys. Pearsall is a very good route runner and can make some great catches. He’s very athletic, but he’s not the strong, physical type that Shanahan usually likes. So, draft nut guys..... how was the Niners draft this year ?
Hope you're right. You are correct... Purdy does not suck, and he did make some plays in the playoffs but he was drafted at 254 for a reason. His arm is mediocre and there ain't no developing that. JMO, of course.
I think the deep game is Purdy's weakness..
Purdy should send some of his money to the Lions. They let him off the hook. That deep ball that was an interception waiting to happen and bounced off the dbs helmet right into ayuks arms. C'mon. Then Gibbs fumbled next play.
He should have been sent home with his tail between his legs. Ends up in the superbowl.
.
Take away the middle of the field in the passing game. The Browns beat them that way.Purdy is a significant upgrade over Jimmy. He is very consistent snap to snap. Smart and quick on reads. And moves well in the pocket. Having him plus that run game plus that top end defense makes for a tough combination to beat.
So to beat them you stuff their run game first. Rams look ready to compete with them in that. Secondly you make Purdy hold the ball by taking away his quick hitters for easy yards. Rams may have a secondary capable of that this year we'll see. And on the other side of the ball you need to be stout up front. Check again.
I think we'll give them everything they can handle from here on out with this new approach.
I hope the super bowl hang over hits the whiners hard. Dissent and doubting the head coach would be great. In tight situations, they might hear those foot steps and wonder if they might blow it again.
I watched a few games with my 49er fan in laws. When he missed an open receiver on a deep out route, one of the in laws who follows them closely said "That is his weakness. He doesn't have the arm to make those throws".I think the deep game is Purdy's weakness.
They do have the best roster in the NFC. Maybe the whole league. But their depth is razor thin. A couple injuries could derail things for them. Their defense is not expected to be as good. Their offensive line was a weak spot aside from Trent Williams and they haven't done much to improve it. Their fans were pretty pissed that they drafted a receiver instead of a lineman.Pipe dream, but okay.

I will say Shanahan is good at disguising that weakness. Garoppolo won a lot of games in that system with a similar weakness. In my opinion what Purdy is doing in that offense a number of quarterbacks around the league could do in that system with those skill players. I think they'll get a deal done with Aiyuk eventually.
They'll be paying Purdy elite money next year and he likely won't have the caliber of talent around him by then. If he can sustain that level with that then I'll be wrong about it. But I have a feeling we'll see that level drop at some point. Their fans do believe they will have an elite quarterback for the next decade. But they also thought that about Garoppolo.
Yeah, they've had some good fortune on the injuries and also some plays on the field. I mentioned this before. In that playoff game with the Packers Purdy threw two passes right into the defenders hands. Easy INT's but both were dropped. Sure looked like open field in front of both those plays. If those guys make the catch and score, the 49ers lose. The offseason narrative on Purdy would look a whole lot different than it does now. The Detroit DB had the INT in his hands, bobbled it right into Aiyuk's hands for a 50 yard gain inside the 5 yard line. What is amazing is, after the game a few praised Purdy for a great pass. Luck has a tendency to even out over time.Am I wrong to think they've had excellent fortune on the health front the last two seasons?

Thats what I don’t understand about that chart. His catchable percentage was close to Stafford. Unless my eyes are cross.well i know this.... after watching all those 25+yard throws...
he ain't no matthew stafford... not even close...
