Looking at this published photo from the Rams site...

The oculus really pops with the Rams colors... in the background of this image there is also lots of blue/yellow color on the level structures.

Are those lit LED panels of some type?

I haven't heard much about the detail there... but this day and age (as evident by the oculus technology) the ability to light those areas and really POP on game day would seem a real possibility. Could look really cool!

Has there been any information on how that area is to be finished?

Would allow them to flip to Chargers colors, too. Which would make a shared stadium feel more team specific.

From my understanding they do have a lot of smaller LED boards that can be flipped around to different colors depending on the team playing.

they'll definitely be led panels.

let's just hope they don't have ads running on them for the whole game like they do in other sports. very distracting.

Rams seeking to borrow up to $500 million more from NFL for stadium

Can anybody with access to The Athletic weigh in more on this?
It talks about a few things including cost over runs and lower PSL sales. We know the Chargers are having an issue with ticket sales so we can guess part of the loan is to cover for their lack of funding the deal required them to come up with. This money is a request to increase their G4 loan from the league so it would also be split with the Chargers.

Part of me wonders if this isn’t some ploy of Stans to hurt Spanos. We know when the PSL issue for the Chargers came about Spanos was adamant he wasn’t required to make up the difference in other ways to cover his end. Could this be Stan requesting a bigger loan that would force Spanos to add more money to the stadium. The Kroenke family isn’t hurting for cash but it would be a shrewd and even brutal business decision to force Spanos into more debt to cover his commitment.

That wouldn't surprise me, Stan and Dean reportedly don't like each other much, and Stan isn't happy with Spanos basically crashing his house warming party. I also think that the Chargers have been trying to do things to undercut the Rams in terms of their branding and messaging, it's obviously a competition between them.

Stan trying to push Spanos out would make sense. Spanos shouldn't be rewarded for his mediocrity and failure. His team failed in LA before, and they're on the path to fail again. Accept that the market doesn't care about you and go somewhere else.

It seems like the border and ETFE was constructed in a scattered manner. I wonder what's the logic behind that.
Are you talking about the gaps around the borders? There are several "movable" panels around the outside edge to allow for them to open up for venting in the warmer days/months. The other areas are just unfinished areas that will probably be filled in quickly.

Makes more sense...mentally I'm like "Why are you skipping that open space?!" lol

sometimes with stuff like that, it's a matter of when the material gets on site. For some highly sculpted designs, each panel is slightly different. While I don't think that's the case for the Rams site, it's entirely reasonable that they simply put up what they had on site since there doesn't seem to be any ordering restrictions like layered panels or anything that would necessitate a particular order.

At least, that's what the construction managers on shows like Mega Structures and those other engineering shows say...LOL.

It truly baffles me what we can build, in size, strength and beauty. Especially since it takes me all day to install a toilet paper holder in my bathroom.

This stadium is awe inspiring.

I can’t wait for this thing to be done. Thinking about flying back to see the Jets in town if I can convince my NYC buddy to join me, just want to see what’s happening with this damn virus first.

The stadium is going to be so nice, once they finish the roof and the oculus all the little details should start going in quickly, that’s going to be so cool to see.

Les said they’re on track to open up the preseason in SoFi as of today, so hyped.

It looks really good from this video, you can see inside, seats are coming together. Shit, when the video board is raised you'll be able to watch the games from across the street and probably have a great view of the screen.

Should be great, when people can actually enjoy it. Thanks to @SWAdude and everyone else for contributing to the thread and providing much needed info on the stadium.

As I've posted before, the Spanos family is closer to bankruptcy than people know. They live off the team income. The entire family is employed by the team at inflated salaries. They cleared (netted) $65M per year in SD and it wasn't enough for them.

I think this is a legitimate claim as the virus has seriously hampered PSL and construction licensing. Also, the Chargers haven't paid a penny toward any of this. So yes he needs the money and yes it's a way of leveraging the Spanos family out. As I've said Eli Broad has been wanting the team for decades. He would buy the team now and then build his own stadium in the City of Industry where he would at least have some fanbase. Then Stan would have his palace all to himself which is what he wants.

Greedy Spanos made a huge mistake. For a 30% stake in ownership, Broad would have built them a stadium in the City of Industry. The team would be an IE, OC, and North SD County team with an actual existing fan base. The funny thing about franchise value, it's like home equity, you only get it when you sell. IMO selling has always been Spanos' end game. But with a loser team with no fanbase, it erodes his franchise value.

I think Stan gets his loan and in the process screws Dean because their portion of obligation would cut into any team sales profit. This is so fitting. Spanos gave the finger to first San Diego followed by Broad and then Las Vegas, and now he's playing in a soccer stadium he can't sell out with only 10K in fans and facing BK. Now Stan is going to burden him with even more debt. Oh BTW the Chargers have never paid for their relocation fee to the NFL of $365M which is due next year if they play in the new stadium this year. IMO the Chargers will be insolvent next year.

Thanks brother.

Unfortunately the schedule has not given me the opportunity to get any good pics. Nor my fellow pilot posse. The recent massive schedule reduction due to the Covid has greatly reduced our frequency. Fortunately I got the real fruits of the stadium progress.

Hope you and yours are safe and sane.

GO RAMS!!!

Nice pics! Looks like the stadium part of the ETFE is complete! I like the opaqueness, hopefully that means the radiant heat and direct light will be diffused a bit as advertised!!
