He was responsible for putting half the points that game. Hope his confidence isn't shot because of that miss.

Can't imagine what Philly fans would do to Jake Elliott if he made that mistake

Totally agree. People are really starting to show their ass on FB and Twitter... . especially post election. I had to unfollow a few of my in laws because their racism was showing..... And I never would have guessed that prior. Sad. FB is a cesspool that I very rarely even sign into anymore.

I've had a similar thing happen with a friend/coworker a few years back that floored me. It closed the door on our friendship. People assume an older white male is automatically at least moderately racist.

He was a Bills fan, from that part of NY. When Tyrod Taylor took over as QB for the Bills I asked him if he was any good and he said he didn't know and he also didn't know how he felt about a (n-word) being the QB for his team.

The look on my face let him know I was not OK with it but he didn't apologize.

I would have NEVER guessed he was like that because in the three years prior never a clue.

I’m proud of how much we appreciate Zuerlein and Hekker. They both contribute a ton, and do a shitload more good than bad for our team.

A few people have busted on GZ for misses but nobody suggested he die for it.

Well not on this board anyway LOL.

Interesting question, I don't think I have ever seen a tipped FG go through. In fact this was the closest I have ever seen to that.

I've never understood how badly fans react to their team, in whatever sport, loses a big game. I don't go past disappointment myself, and can't grasp the hatred aimed at a player or coach for not winning a game. It's just a sport and I am not attached to it at that low of a level and it's not part of my identity.

I understand how it feels to watch my Rams lose a Super Bowl, and a playoff game and have the worst 5 year stretch in the history of the NFL. But I never hated anyone for it.

So I think the people flinging this type of crap towards a player is horrible.

ESPECIALLY sine we knew right after the game that the kick was tipped which altered the path of the ball.

Not a peep about the guy who didn't do a good enough job blocking to keep another player from getting his fingertips on the ball, it's all about the kicker who needs to die.

This must be something among certain fanbases because I don't remember this type of reaction when the Rams lost the SB to the Patriots, or when Az Hakim fumbled away the game in the playoffs against the Saints, or when Martz went fetal against the Panthers.

I wonder if there is any kind of study done on fans like this.

Can someone explain the angst to me - I mean even if he made the kick they would have just lost the following week.

So what if it was tipped. He should have kicked it with a higher arc to avoid a block of any kind. The kicker failed...!

So no responsibility for the guys blocking on the line? Just automatically the kickers fault? Or was there something you saw that makes you say that? Looks to me like #68 got blown up into the backfield, and gave up the block. Kick might have been slightly low, but hard to tell with that much penetration.

You guys do realize that a World Cup player from Columbia was actually hunted down and killed (while taking out his trash at home) by his countrymen after accidently scoring an own goal, thereby eliminating his team?

Ya so i'm thinking a few Chicago fans speaking and tweeting "harshly" about thier kicker aint so bad in comparison.

Yeah but this is how you create a culture of outrage and wild threats that sane people would never act on... but those are not the only ones we have to worry about.
Before they killed that dude in Colombia, they talked about killing others for years. Empty threats until they weren't.
Dimebag Darrell, the guitar virtuoso from Pantera was assassinated on stage by a mentally unstable fan who reacted to the angry, violent threats of the bands former singer to his fans.

Fans in America can be just as psycho as anywhere else.

Not really. Guys can only jump so high, so the arc on a kick is a factor. The longer the kick, generally the lower the arc in order to gain distance. More of a chance to block a 55+ yard kick. So I still blame the kicker on this one...100%.

I think it’s fine to blame the kicker primarily for the miss or block but it should pretty much stop there. He’s kicking for his livelihood. He is trying for 100% but that ain’t gonna happen. The dude looked pretty fucked up after the game. He missed a makeable kick. He doesn’t deserve the shit show that followed.

But the guy was in the backfield because #68 got blown up, If #68 makes his block there is no blocked kick.

I understand the physics of angles. LOL

but the caveat here is social media. In 2000- 2004 every person on the planet didn't own a smart phone, Facebook was in it's infancy and twitter was basically not existent.

It's only a 43 yard attempt. Look at its trajectory. It's a low kick!

Is that really the point though of the OP?
Not 100% within the point. But, there is argument that it's not the fault of the kicker because the ball was tipped. I differ with that opinion and added it to this thread.

If that's not, ok. Please remove them from the thread.

No. It’s fine.

I think too often, when a mod chimes in, or other members for that matter, it comes off as chastising.

I think almost any missed and makeable FG attempt is the kicker’s fault by in large. There can be other factors - sure.

But I think @LesBaker ’s greater point was the amount of outrage, death threats, dickish behavior to a player, etc. that followed it.

It’s part of the game. And just like a dropped TD pass or whiffed tackle, it happens, and the player is generally responsible. But sometimes people need to get a grip (not aiming that at you).

Cool. And, I never thought you were aiming anything at muah!

When pro athletes blow it big time, they should get ripped to shreds, but I agree, without crossing that line!

I have an idea: how about the people issuing death threats get charged in a court of law with something? Maybe then they'll stop doing shit like that.

I feel for Cody Parkey. Nobody deserves that much vitriol for a fucking game.
