That's the only reason to leak facts about contracts. Rams have tried to make Donald the highest paid defensive player....yada yada....that's Rams FO saying that...Not Donald's people. Donald KNOW the market should continue to rise.
If the Rams were lying about their offers I can't imagine that Donald's people wouldn't be trying to correct them. They may not have made a great offer to Jenkins, but the Rams didn't come out and say they did, they said they did the best they were willing to do and he left for New York. Most of us didn't think Jenkins deserved the salary when he first signed if I remember correctly. Additionally with Jenkins there was a legitimate question about who was the better corner, him or Johnson. Jenkins had more flashy plays, but he also let more big plays happen. Remember him literally standing on the field watching the Miami QB while he threw a wide open TD behind Jenkins? Shit like that is why the Rams were iffy on paying him. Probably wasn't the best choice, especially since we've tagged Tru twice now, but I'm pretty certain that was a Fisher move, not a Snead or Demoff move.
Everything seems to indicate the Rams have offered Donald to be the highest paid defensive player in the league. There have been reports that the holdup is mostly over how much more he gets paid. To me that's an agent trying to do it, rather than Donald. My disappointment in Donald is that he's either allowing his agent to make him sit out for stupid shit like this, or he's directing it. Either way doesn't look good on Donald.
The actions of the Rams flying out to visit his people, McVay calling Donald nightly to go over gameplans and stuff, Snead talking about wanting to pay Donald back at the combine. That tells me the Rams are trying, they want Donald here. Donald not calling the Rams, Donald not coming to LA, Donald not even being in the same state as his agent during negotiations tells me that the hold up is on him.
You can believe the reports or not, but the actions are verifiable, and they don't make Donald look good. I'm sure it'll all work out in the end and we'll all be happy, but right now it looks like Donald is willing to give the finger to the fans, his teammates, and the organization because he wants more money. If that's his thought process, why should we hurt our ability to improve other aspects of the team for him?
It doesn't matter if you're the best player in the league, you can only do so much. The Oilers traded Wayne Gretzky during the height of his career, and Gretzky is 100 times the hockey player than Donald could ever hope to be as a football player. There's only one GOAT #99, and his name isn't Aaron, it's Wayne.
Do I want Donald to go? Not at all. But if he doesn't want to be here, then that's on him.
