If Vinny's article is the source you cite, I don't read it that way. Here is as close as it comes:

"And while they won’t say so publicly, there is a strong sense they’ve made it clear they are open to making Donald the highest-paid defensive player in the league relative to annual average salary while guaranteeing him a life-changing amount of money."

Thats not a report, thats conjecture. I'm not saying they haven't made such an offer - but there is no report out there that says that they have.

He's probably citing Vinny's tweets from last night, which are a couple pages back in this thread. They are much more "matter of fact", and state that the issue isn't making AD the highest paid defensive player, but by how much he will be the highest paid.

Puts it in a bit of a different perspective.

Also people need to get the hell over Fisher giving out contracts to Quinn and Tavon.
Demoff does....and he's still here.

If the Rams are offering him a contract that makes him the highest paid defender in the NFL, you can be sure it comes with a sh!tload of guaranteed money.

I guess most believe the sticking point is the out clause after 2-3 years....

Hell....IF he's been offered what Vinny says:
http://www.ocregister.com/2017/08/3...s-arent-budging-its-time-to-get-back-to-work/

Thing is, the Rams got that point a long time ago.

And while they won’t say so publicly, there is a strong sense they’ve made it clear they are open to making Donald the highest-paid defensive player in the league relative to annual average salary while guaranteeing him a life-changing amount of money.

If you’re doing the math at home, that means Donald making $70 million in guaranteed money and, should he play out the length of the deal, pocket $118 million or so.

For point of reference, think somewhere above Ndamukong Suh’s six-year, $114.4 million deal that guarantees him $60 million, and Von Miller’s six-year, $114 million contract that guarantees him $70 million.
If AD has been offered this....I'd agree fellas...IF

Bonsignore tweeted more details about the offer last night, and I have to believe the Rams leaked those. Go back a few pages and read them. And there have bee multiple sources stating that AD is being offered to be the highest paid defensive player in the league.

Again ... the TEAM is not making it public. they don't want to negotiate thru the media (classs) But Rappaport, Schefter, Allbright and Bonsignore have came out to say they have a pretty good idea of the offer and the demands. Now where they all got the info... IDK .. but they all have gotten it from somewhere, and they all fall inline with each other. These aren't guys who just throw crap out there, So I trust the info. To me ... only people who hold some kind of grudge against the Rams FO would keep assuming it is wrong. There has been NO reporting of the Rams being either "cheap" or "unwilling" to give him the contract.

I have seen the word substantial thrown around by everyone involved - I haven't seen anyone report that they know the actual numbers involved in the offer or the numbers involved in the demands - and frankly, I'd be surprised if any reporters do know those numbers. I think you are probably right, but wordsmithing is one of my things so when a journalist puts something in writing - I try to pay attention to what they say and what they don't say. This Vinny article stops short of saying that the Rams have offered to make him the highest paid defensive player ever. I'm sure the offer is substantial and we would all be outraged if we knew the kind of guranteed money he was turning his nose at - still, it wouldn't completely shock me if the Rams were really trying to leverage their control over AD for the next several years into a more team friendly deal - including going below the Von Miller line.

This tweet?

Von Miller had 70 million guranteed in his deal..

Yes and no. He had $42 million guaranteed at signing he had $18.5 more guaranteed n March of this year. He has $9 million more guaranteed on 3rd day of league year in 2018. His last two years are club options which if exercised a portion totalling $13 million more guaranteed becomes guaranteed.

Vinny mentions "plenty more on conversions" which could mean a situation just like Vons deal. Vinny is making it sound a lot like Vons deal imo.

Exactly. Thanks for explaining, which I was too lazy to do :)

Until we know for sure what's been offered, I'll side with AD. I remember not long ago Snead mentioning something about there being 2 years left before FA and implying that should give the Rams a chance to sign AD below his proven value. They need to pay him what he's proven he's worth or trade him to some team who will.

The Rams at this point need to take a hard look at their approach.

IF they haven't made their best offer yet, then make it. Put the cards on the table and give AD a deadline after which the offer is pulled and stick to their guns.

IF they have made their best offer, then simply add a deadline (mine would be Friday COB) and stick to it.

Right or wrong doesn't really matter here. It's about what the organization feels his worth at this point is, with two years control plus franchise year playing heavily in their favor. When the player and organization cannot get on the same page the team has nothing left but to set a deadline and move on. If he passes the deadline still being a holdout there is also the option of trade, and I'd let teams call me and consider strong offers. Barring that, it's hardball time so we'll see you week 8 Aaron and enjoy paying the fines we're now going to NOT waive.

If Aaron hasn't signed by Sunday....does he watch the game? Would he want the Rams to win without him?

I imagine the worst thing that could happen for Donald is that he holds out and the Rams go 3-0..

It would even be difficult to trade him at this point because of the compensation a team would have to give up followed by a massive contract.

Go back a few pages and read them.
I would...but I'm feeling lazy...plus this last tweet from Albright has me opptomistic...

I am really happy to see that tweet. Hopeful this thing gets done.
me too...your hard ball stance made me say OUCH! But that's how you do business...but not with your talent. I mean, me, oldschool, jrry could be workers too...but with say...flv/x....that's the TALENT..they must be treated differently.

almost 1k posts... Aaron is that you......?

giphy.gif

Fucking almost a 1000 posts and no AD? WTF is wrong with you people?

To elevate your concerns temporarily... :D

We've all been waiting for something new. But its been the same since the beginning of camp. Groundhog day all over again.
No doubt, in fact I mistakenly opened page 1 of this thread, instead of 1st unread, and was amazed to see exactly the same info that's being said today.
Its like "literally" the same posts
Haha

Let a deal be done already! I'm tired of this crap! Rams actually look poised for a great season but there's always something that comes up and changes all of it.
