Didn't get to see the game today, but listened to it on the radio and have seen some highlights. Overall, very pleased. On offense, it seems like we got a lot of our mojo back, Goff was pretty good, and once Everett got in sync with him, some big plays were made. Running game still needs work, particularly the OL in that respect ... although I like the flashes we are seeing from Henderson. I realize ATL doesn't have a great D (or even a good one) ... but can you imagine how dire our straits would be if we hadn't been able to move the ball well against even them? Well, we did, and it was a good game for us to break in Edwards and give the OL time to gel ... although I part of me wonders if we couldn't do better with a swap of Austins (Corbett for Blythe) at RG.
The D? Now that was an unqualified success today. Keep in mind that's a team with an established upper tier QB, three good-to-great WR's in Jones, Ridley and Sanu, and a decent RB in Freeman (well, until the 3rd quarter ejection anyway ...
) ... and outside of a 1st quarter FG, that O didn't get shit until garbage time. Ramsey's presence made an immediate impact, and it showed up in the stat sheet in terms of sacks. On the radio broadcast, Maurice Jones Drew noted that being able to play press man like we did for much of the game gave the defense one extra step to get there, and it absolutely showed. And how good is this D going to be when Matthews returns and (hopefully) JJ makes it back late season? Today the D not only survived but thrived against a team that is loaded at the skill positions. It's hard to be anything less than ecstatic with their performance today.
