Your friend could be right and still end up being wrong. Meaning McVay might not want to develop a QB. But he might decide he wants to keep coaching and end up drafting a QB at some point.

My example would be my own career. From day one my plan was to retire at 20 years. I planned meticulously for it and had a couple real nice job options offered that I was considering. But when the moment came to put in my papers I realized how much I loved the Navy and I went back to sea, in fact to a couple ships back to back to soak in all the glory of it and party like a fuckin pirate in every port call because at that point I knew I was going to miss it when I hit 30.

So we'll see man. And I am not disregarding what you are telling us via your friend. Rather I am just acknowledging that we all lie to ourselves at times, and also time can change our priorities. My fear is McVay is not gonna be around much longer. But I think we have the type of owner who might keep him around. I am sure by now, after Kroenke supported him with the Goff move, that McVay realizes how great he has it. Which means I am hoping he marinates on these things and surprises us all by sticking around a lot longer than expected.

And I would love to see him with a young high talent QB. Especially if that QB comes in while he's still got Stafford so he can sit behind him and learn. That type of thing might keep him engaged, as I think he enjoys that coach/QB connection even if relying on a rook isn't something he wants to endure.
You've just expressed much more clearly what I was trying to say.
I agree 100%.
It is a fluid situation at all times I suppose.
In another post I said I thought Joe Burrow (along with his coach) would be joining the Rams in 3 years or so when the Bengals go full rebuild mode.....now that comment was pure wishful thinking. Haha.
I hope McVay doesn't lose the fire or get pressured (by family) to leave sooner than he should.

Who's the coach for stroud? They seem to be doing a good job with him. I Can't get Comfortable with McVay not wanting to develop a rookie qb. He's not "That good of a coach"? I dunno, not very becoming if true.
DeMeco Ryan’s is HC ( defensive coach)

Bobby Slowik has been with Shannyhan in Washington and San Fran.

Honestly, I think most of it has to Dow it’s the type of QB Stroud was coming out of college. #1 his processing speed is grade A which has helped him immeasurably.

People look at his ability to run, scramble, and move around the pocket and automatically assume “ he’s a running QB” which is a lazy analysis of someone’s overall ability.

We need wolverines, not badgers, and definitely not sloths. Wolverines are just built different.

(Speaking as the girl who owns stuffed animals of all three and can appreciate all three animals.)

Yeah Stroud is a stud. And Ryans has done a great job stepping into that HC role.

But I also think the Texans had a better talent base when Ryans went in there than they were given cred for. Could just be that I want to see Lovie get a little cred, as I've always been a fan of his as a defensive leader. But either way we have seen a master class of adding the key pieces by this current regime and front office.

No honestly Lovie did a hell of a job and put together a damn good roster, that GM and DeMeco did a hell of job adding the trimming. Also, made the intelligent decision on Stroud. I wasn't sure how Demeco would fair but been damn impressed by his demeanor and actions thus far.

Why are you giving Lovie Smith credit for 'put(ting) together a damn good roster'?

Smith was only the Head Coach for one year. The Texans had a good 2022 Draft, and I'm sure Smith had input but shouldn't GM Nick Caserio get most of the credit? Caserio has been the GM since 2021.

IDK probably because Nick Caserio was there when Lovie was there? Doesn't a D Coord have input on FA's and draft picks? smh
