Just a reminder, the Rams did go to the Superbowl 2 seasons ago, without Staley as DC mind you
Yeah, they had an elite O-line and STs unit too.
That defense was pretty good to begin with and Phillips made it better.
Since then we have more or less dumped all of our resources into our defense, the unit that was championship quality under Phillips. In exchange for making our very good defense even better, we've totally let that elite O-line and STs drift into mediocrity... and that's somewhat generous.

Let's hope McVay has a nice offseason and finds himself again. Bonamego should have been let go already. So should the QB coach and O'Connell can leave too. Kromer isn't exactly blowing me away lately either. Sure, its easy to be good when you have a left side of Whitworth, Saffold and Sullivan. These guys weve been getting are not stout enough to win at the point of attack. Coaching technique is great and I'm sure Kromer is a great technique teacher but if we want to be top scoring team again, we should probably stop dumping our resources on the one side of the field that this team can actually draft well for.

Nice List here...IMO, it will be internal either Aubrey Pleasant or Eric Henderson. If it's Pleasant they can elevate Evero to Secondary Coach, which would be a promotion from just Safeties Coach and hopefully still hand onto Henderson.

I like some of the external's too like Jim Leonard or Mayo of the Pats, but IMO the opportunity to internal is a plus and they can look to add an assistant secondary coach to the staff too.

Last year McVay went after former Bills safety and current Wisconsin DC Jim Leonhard prior to the Staley hire, if I'm not mistaken. I wonder if he goes after him again this year.

That's possible, but I believe the internal candidates are too good with Pleasant & Henderson, plus adding some diversity as you DC, can be a good thing IMHO.

We'll see next week if Tampa can do it again. Something tells me Green Bay is going to be a lot more prepared for those sorts of looks. We haven't been a single-high defense all year. You adjust to your opponents, but in doing so, you don't abandon what you do best.

That didn’t work out so well for McVay in the Super Bowl. But Belichick came with a scheme other than the one he ran all year

The Rams' staff has been gutted to the tune of three playoff appearances in four years. I think we'll be okay. McV is a talent magnet. On the surface it's annoying to be the coaching farm team, but the results on the field have been consistent and positive.

If Henderson or Pleasant leave to be a DC we get picks right?

Not so sure about this one if I'm the Chargers. Staley stikes me as an Xs and Os nerd rather than a head coaching presence. At least that's the way he comes off when I've seen him interviewed. Wish him the best of luck though. Seems like a good guy.

Im not reading through 9 pages....but I couldn't help but notice Lovie Smith is free...do we have the defense to run that scheme?

We'll see who Staley brings in with him, but I think he will be an outstanding HC. I expect him to take the Chargers into the playoffs pretty quickly.

They should make Pleasant the DC, elevate Ejiro to Secondary Coach and make Hendo the Asst HC so it's a promotion.

Gotta be creative to keep bodies in our building...

Barry is Asst HC right now, not sure how well that will go over.

You don't take any money from his pocket, just let everyone know openly that the move is made to retain as much coaching talent as possible.

Does anyone think anything's gonna happen with a young, healthy HC? So, it's more of an honorary title than anything else.

I feel confident that the org could work that out internally without much hoo haw.

I agree, with the exception of making Henderson Assistant Head Coach, Joe Barry already holds that title, you can only have one.

Frankly, I don't know if I'm sold on any one currently on the team as DC. Great position coaches, but are they Xs and Is guys?

Not saying they aren't, because I don't know. There's just not anybody that would excite me as a hire on the team or make me feel confident.

Aubrey Pleasant is talked about in glowing terms by every defender who's played for him. Apparently, he's amazing at teaching both technique and scheme.

I can only take their word for it.
I don't doubt that, it's probably just me being bitter yet that Staley left.
