You don't take any money from his pocket, just let everyone know openly that the move is made to retain as much coaching talent as possible.

Does anyone think anything's gonna happen with a young, healthy HC? So, it's more of an honorary title than anything else.

I feel confident that the org could work that out internally without much hoo haw.
I dont think that merely changing the titles helps retaining coaches on teams. I mean sure, a DB coach to DC is a legit promotion, but adding Asst Head Coach while doing same thing? Dont think that makes a difference. Just my .02.

It makes a difference in pay with a supervisory tag, so yeah, it makes a difference.

They dont need to change a title to pay someone more, they can pay what they want to pay. It comes down to opportunity, if the opportunity elsewhere gives a better chance of career advancement, you take it.

True, but a team has to grant permission unless it's a Head Coaching Opportunity, so if a DL Coach has a chance to be a DC, the team he's on much grant permission even though that's an obvious promotion.

You are making a different statement, which isnt what I was quoted about. Giving titles is not going to retain coaches. Of course if you are promoting within, that's a different story. But if you are promoting from within, that means you're filling an open spot....
Joe Barry isnt staying with the Rams because he was given the "assistant head coach" title.

You are basically quoting me, and repeating what I am saying....
Giving a title doesnt mean anything, if an assistant coach wants to leave for another team for a better position, he will post for it if his team allows. No doubt

Are you sure the League has not changed that rule requiring permission for a position coach to coordinator job?

I’m pretty sure assistant head coach gets protected that’s why it’s usually a position coach not a coordinator.

Joe Barry was fired from the Skins, not sure he's an example?

Fired?? Either way is he was fired or not The Rams still had a DC position open.I guess I’m missing the point?Your only talking about Coaches from other Organizations?
