Come one you're better then that...I'm not sure what you do, but let's say someone takes a chance on you to oversee a department and you do an incredible job and another company comes along and wants you to be the VP of Operations, with a huge salary increase and total autonomy within the company to build it your way, are you happy your other company informes you that you have a contract?
I am a touring lighting director for live events. If I bail on a contract to jump to a more favorable tour, I could be blacklisted. Theres different contracts I have to sign including non competes that prevent me from learning trade secrets (i.e. how certain illusions work in a magic show) and then leaving and using said secrets to make more money elsewhere.
Players can't just jump ship. What if Aaron Donald wants to go to Pittsburgh and they will guarantee him elite edge rushers and a defense designed to maximize his numbers and name recognition?
Would that be cool?
I don't sign anything longer than 6 months. Never had to but I would be very reluctant if offered. Are there ways out and are these contracts really binding in ways that will hold me accountable for breaking them? Yes and no....
When I design a lighting rig and show for a company, they don't own my intellectual property but they do reserve it during the length of my contract and I am not able to take that property and turn around and give it to a competitor for money or I could face serious issues finding another company to work for, let alone a potential lawsuit.
Im not mad at Staley. Or Lafleur or Taylor etc... but the way these organizations get to play by different rules than their players do does ruffle my feathers.
Building sustainable success in any avenue of the entertainment industry requires some sustainability.
Jmo.
And I'm upset.... Staley was the only McVay hire for this season that didn't leave me scratching my head.
Let's hope he strikes gold and not the defensive equivalent of Bonamego, eh? I mean, Ramsey and Floyd were great additions and Floyd was a Staley hire. Those resource allocations are a big reason our offense has taken a big dip in talent over the past two seasons. If Staley wasn't going to be a part of this unit next season, which I'm positive McVay had very little expectation of losing him immediately- do we sign Robinson or Floyd? New guy needs his pieces to make it work. Well now its time to put our resources back around getting the most out of the QB position. We need good O-line. Do we yet again spend our money on giving the next new guy his toys? Demoff and Snead have to think in terms longer than 1 season at a time. Losing our DC that we gave the keys to after one year is actually damaging our team just like it would my tour.
Im flattered you think I'm better than my opinion though. Cheers Den
