If we can only keep our assistant coaches one year how can we expect to win?

Staley is a huge loss. Super disappointed. I knew he would go to the Chargers, though.
That's exactly what I just told a buddy. Maybe I'm pessimistic but how can you expect continued success what there's no continuity at the Coordinator spots. Sure, at the end of the dead there's HC continuity but there's no way McVay can keep getting lucky with these hires.

Needs to be a rule where a OC/DC/STC needs to remain for at least 2 years.

You can't do that, it's frustrating absolutely, but look at it from another perspective. Brandon Staley did an amazing job and finally received an opportunity and rose to the occasion and is now a Head Coach in the NFL, that is the way it is supposed to work and I will never understand how some assistants don't get opportunities, but everyone should have the right to improve their standard of living and move freely to do so.

It's already set that teams do not have to grant permission for a position coach to be interviewed for a Coordinator, the good teams allow it, but some don't and hopefully Staley won't try to take some of the Ram assistants with him, like Rams defensive line coach Eric Henderson as DC for example.

Let's not forget how the Rams got Staley, they asked the Broncos permission to interview him as he was the Outside Linebackers Coach and the Broncos could have denied permission, but they didn't so now, we shall see what lies on the horizon and although I'm upset too, I still believe that assistants should be given theses opportunties.

With that perspective I respectfully agree that it'd be a wrong rule.

Coaches shouldn't get signed away while under contract.
Do a good job, build up your name and when your contract has been fulfilled, you can take any job you want.
Thats how it should work.

Im pissed right now and it goes well beyond Staley....

IMHO I would promote Rams DL Coach Eric Henderson to Defensive Coordinator. I realize that Aubrey Pleasant is also someone who should be considered, but reading the backgrounds of both, IMO, I believe Henderson is ready to take over. We shall see.

Come one you're better then that...I'm not sure what you do, but let's say someone takes a chance on you to oversee a department and you do an incredible job and another company comes along and wants you to be the VP of Operations, with a huge salary increase and total autonomy within the company to build it your way, are you happy your other company informes you that you have a contract?

Last year McVay went after former Bills safety and current Wisconsin DC Jim Leonhard prior to the Staley hire, if I'm not mistaken. I wonder if he goes after him again this year.

Maybe the next coaches that come to work for us, we make them sign a contract with a non-compete clause (10 years)

The Chargers were the best landing spot, IMO. Lots of good pieces to work with, there.

For Staley, staying in the same city... gravy.
Hmmm...Getting hired in Cincinatti during winter with deep snow or working for Spanos in LA...Shyte, I can buy a parka....

What is it about Mcvay's staff. Not one that is any good has stayed more than a year before a team snags him. That happens nowhere else. That fuck head DC for the 49ers lasted 2 years.
