Short term memory is most likely your problem then. Cause Goff was untouchable for awhile, and Sam Bradford was constantly defended against criticism. Its a pattern, we fans defend our QB.
Dude, Goff was ripped for losing the Atlanta playoff game in 17' not to mention being written off as a bust after 7 games in Fisher's "middle school offense"

This ^^^^^^^

This was my fear. QBs like this seduce their coaches to let their talent carry a team and very, very, few can.

Look at Marino. Turned a ground & pound coach, like Shula, into Air Coryell. David Woodley played in as many SBs as Marino did. Think about that.

McVay needs to coach Stafford like he did Goff. Manage the games and with Stafford's talent you should be able to make a few more plays, but you still have to play complimentary football to win big.

Right now Stafford is doing his Brett Farve impersonation and doing it poorly.

Even Farve's greatest success is when he had a great ground game. When he was purely being a gunslinger, they bowed out early each yr.
I think we will see more run game in Green Bay... simply because we have been turning the ball over too much and they have a good pass defense.

Calling him stupid is unfairly harsh. He's an intelligent player. He just might not be the savior we thought he could be. The rest of the team can't handle being pushed around. Receivers were thrown off their game with drops you haven't seen much of till the last couple games. The defense can't stop a ball control offense from moving the chains and controlling the clock. Its happened twice in a row now. Its not all on Stafford.
Sorry my point is he doesn't seem to execute the optimal ways in critical decisions lol like the deep ball to obj. He a super clean pocket and forget what obj did on the route he had to see the 2 safeties back there this should have been a no brained he should have found another read or thrown it away.

The irony is that by not playing complimentary football, he's being overly predictable and making the big plays harder to come by because he is simplifying things for opposing defenses.

In other words he needs to help him almost as much as he did Goff... Manage the games, but do so with a QB with a higher skill set. Exactly.
Look, I like Stafford as a person and as a qb. The problem I see is that he and McVay at times reinforce each other's worst tendencies. That is, to default to gunning the ball downfield.

Stafford has always made some bad throws (yes, like all qbs), some misreads, and terrible decisions at times (such as on throw away INTs to avoid sacks and poorly considered passes forced downfield).

It's up to McVay to have an offensive strategy and play calls that bring out the best in his QB and limit his mistakes as much as possible. And coach him to execute it.

Tampa was 7-5 last year and looked really mediocre. Brady and Arians got together after their bye and worked out their issues.

I live here and it wasn't all "we're gonna win the Super Bowl" When they were 7-5, it was like "well, we suck a little less with Brady...so?"

They also added a late piece in AB and Gronk got healthy.

We're only adding OBJ on the offense and we lost Woods, but we're adding Von Miller who will do well for us. We may also get Cam Akers back, which would be a MASSIVE boost presuming he's healed up and healthy. I still would prefer he wait to play until next season, but if he's good to go, he would be a pretty solid upgrade over Hendo who's not the best runner in a slobberknocker game.

The problem is only partly Stafford who I think is playing with a bigger back issue than he's letting on and it's affecting his location... a lot. I really hope he gets healed up over the next two weeks. The bigger problem is we're running a 3-4, but won't even put the 3 DL on the field. We're running a crazy hybrid that relies on 2 interior DL and 1 ILB to stop the interior run game. That's impossible and thus far, we've not done well at it, but when playing with a lead, it matters less.

I reject the "we'll never win with McVay" nonsense, but I can see after some bad losses why some folks feel that way. It's nonsense, but I've yet to see a game where the GDT doesn't have people jumping off of buildings halfway through a bad game, so... I dunno.

Maybe we're so conditioned to sucking that when we don't we still deep down don't trust the success and every failure is seen as "the sky is falling...see, told ya".

We'll see. Unfortunately, we have to wait two weeks and then have to play one of the hottest teams in the NFL in their crib in the snow and cold. It's a HUGE ask.

This team can most certainly do it, but we're gonna need this team to come together in a big way.
Couple of points.

First my point is Stafford is not up to the mental challenge but he is good but his streaky non accurate throws scare me

Second and way more important is they need to fire Morris today he is a cancer that needs to be let go sorry it's true imo.

Lastly comparing the TB season to our season this year is not a good comp. Brady is a proven Mental winner Stafford isn't yet. TB had all the pieces across the board we don't especially at the LB spot.

The “reinforces worst tendencies” is the absolute money line when analyzing the QB/coach relationship.

.

at least stafford can tell mcvay in real time why he's sucking so hard. he doesn't need to waste 10 seconds getting the notebook and showing him on there. that's handy at least.

doesn't help the play calling though.

Stafford & McVay don’t seem to understand the difference between aggressive and impatient.

Stafford sucked last night. Receivers didn’t help but still his ball was floating on him.
Now that the bye is here I am expecting to hear what we all fear.
“Stafford is dealing with an _______ injury and is day to day”

That's probably among my biggest worries. If we're having to deal with a banged up QB that is limited as the season continues on to the point he's struggling like this, then we're probably going to be in trouble.
