Agree ... I wasn't even thinking about Warner when I wrote that post. Didn't mention him. Was responding to a 503-post that also did not mention him. Very different players; and insanely different NFL Eras.
Just of the opinion that Namath had a lot to do with the NFL becoming America's game.
There were teams (Lombardi's Packers, Shula's Dolphins and the '70s Steelers), the AFL of the 1960s, the Merger, the first Super Bowls, tremendous Rule Changes that impacted How the Game was Played and the evolution of sports media coverage ... ALL had an impact on how the NFL exploded over two decades.
There were a lot of star players that also contributed ... But ... there's no one I would put ahead of Namath.
Better Players? ... You Bet ... quite a few.
Better Quarterbacks? ... ABSOLUTELY
Bigger Stars of the Game? ... I don't think so.
