Theoretically, I like outdoor football also, but I think this will change minds as to how it works with light and the airiness of the "no walls" concept... it may have been said earlier, but I would hope they also build it for sound reflection so that it follows the Seahawks team up and down the field...

I directed the above at Young Ram. The roof at Inglewood is like nothing you or I have experienced before. It reduces heat from direct sunlight, while also allowing natural light into the venue. The sides are open, so there will be outside air moving through it. I hesitate to call it fresh air, because it is, after all, LA.

knowing that makes me feel better about it. thats good to know that it wont be the experience of a typical domed stadium.

You being at that game in SD,I am sure you agree that it almost felt like a homegame there with how all the LA fans took over the place? Thats why I am surprised it made you sad because it was pretty common knowledge back then that the Rams were coming back to LA as evidenced in this photo below.

I should have specified, that game @ San Diego was 11/29 in 2006, not 2014. So, at the time there was no talk or any hope Rams would return to So Cal, hence being sad.

Now, I also went to the San Diego game in the pic you attached. It was a great game. Back and forth, back and forth between the two teams. Until the very end of the game, one minute left, Hill tossed an interception on the Charges 2 yard line (a la Robert Wilson style in the super bowl vs. the Pats). Rams would of won with a td or tied with a field goal. Awful ending.

But, yeah...there must have been like 40,000 Rams fans there that day. Such a fun day. It did feel very much like a Rams game at Anaheim back in the day.

So, my family had season tickets for Anaheim games and we always loved the outdoors. After the Rams moved to St. Louis, I went to a few games there, but really liked the dome, mostly cause I had never been in one ever before.

But, then I went down to San Diego when the Rams rolled into town. The weather was perfect. It was an awesome football day. It made me sad cause at the time seeing the Rams outdoors in Southern California brought back the Anaheim days memories . I've attached a picture I took that day of my family.

However, this new Inglewood stadium has the indoor/outdoor feel to it with its atrium style roof. Maybe it will end up being the best of both worlds.

Would make sense, those windows are pretty high tech. I love how they look too, I really like the lighting in the Vikings stadium, I think ours will be similar. I'm so excited to see it when it's all done, it really is going to be a crown jewel.

Outdoor feel with plenty of open walls and the roof for natural lighting without the California heat (especially with the summers becoming longer and more brutal), the stadium being sunk into the ground will help keep it cooler too.

Lets try no sunshine for starters,no mother nature air.the stadium will be a glass house so we will still get the sunshine but it wont be the same not feeling mother nature breath on you.

Yeah I'm totally not in touch with nature like that. That explains the difference. Hopefully the new stadium with the filtered sun and limited airflow works out better for you than you think. I would hate for you to not enjoy the games because of the stadium.

Yeah, Josh seems to be the sport franchise heir. The daughter probably is taken care of too, but Josh seems to be the sports child. Conveniently, the NFL just removed their cross-ownership restrictions.

Or piss on you! I'll be just fine not getting rained on. Like someone mentioned I think this will be the best of both worlds with the sides open and the natural light. The roof panels protect you from the UV rays. Which is awesome! Like someone else mentioned the Sept. games at the coliseum have been scorching and at times down right brutal. Thing I'm not a fan of? No natural grass for one. #2.... will the building be able to dissipate heat well when there is no breeze? Or is it going to have the potential to be a sauna??

They should have natural grass, dammit. I moved to Phoenix in 2013, and have been catching all the Rams games out here at Cardinals stadium. They have the natural grass in their dome. It's really cool how they roll the entire grass field inside for a game, and then roll it back outside after. It looks really good in the dome too.

I thought that ETFE stuff was rigid. I freaked out seeing the guy jumping on it like a trampoline. Technology advancement is weird sometimes. In this case something that looks like a giant zip lock baggie is THE FUTURE!

Looked at a page on the link provided by TSFH Fan, and it sounds like in addition to the sides being open, many of the roof panels will have hinges that allow for more ventilation. Also, since it’s built so far below ground, I bet the temperature will be much cooler at field level than outside of the stadium. (On a hot day, a basement is much cooler than an attic).

I think natural grass would be a problem and not just due to the roof. Being sunken in would make light a real issue and artificial light is a real crap shoot. Roots tend to not want to grow very healthy. Not only that but artificial light for that size project would probably cost more than all the video panels, reader boards, and other lighting combined.

I think you skipped the part about the whole field being rolled outside, to grow in the open air, then rolled inside just on gamedays.

Nah. I was referring to the Inglewood Stadium. It would be an inhospitable environment for natural grass. But it WOULD be quite the engineering feat to see them roll the grass outside from 100 feet down.
