If the Rams turn a profit that is a little more than the NFL average, the Kroenke's will recover their investment in the stadium in about 40 years, not to mention the overall increase in the value of the team. Kind of like buying a house and paying off a mortgage.

But isn’t it also a life-time memorial to him? Something transcends money alone? For a short slice of time, it will be the finest stadium ever constructed, and that’s probably a motivator for him as much as anything...

That is one wierd way to leave a mark for yourself.

The stadium WILL be built, it WILL be amazing, and my money is on Kroenke that it will be highly profitable.

I'm sure the entire project will be profitable, but the stadium at the price being reported won't be.

But I agree with you, there have been numbers all over the place with the project and the stadium itself.

If the stadium by itself is 4BIL it's not going to make a profit for decades.

What is the average profit for an NFL team?

It has to vary wildly from market to market.

Kroenke is 71 years old. He has made billions of dollars. At this point maybe he just wants to enjoy his LA entertainment district empire rather than worry about his ROI.

It does vary from team to team and the data is hard to find. The Green Bay Packers are a publicly held company, so I did find information on their profit in 2017 along with a mention on how it compared to 2016. https://www.reuters.com/article/foo...-share-topped-8-billion-in-2017-idUSKBN1K719F

The article talks about shared revenue among the teams, but that does not account for operating expenses. Halfway down the article it says Green Bay made a profit of $34.1 million in 2017, down from $65.4 million the year before (2016).

Last year’s unusually wet winter held back construction on the future home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers in Inglewood, forcing the stadium’s developers to push back its opening day to 2020.

But scarcely a drop of rain has fallen this winter, and construction is now moving right along.

Builders of the 70,000-seat arena announced Wednesday that thus far roughly 6 million cubic yards of dirt have been excavated, 45,000 cubic yards of concrete poured, and eight cranes brought to the construction site.

A massive structural retaining wall, which will support the stadium, is now 65 percent complete, and the outline of the ovular structure is taking shape.

Work on the project is about to ramp up. About 850 workers are now employed on the stadium on a given day, but that number will more than quadruple by next year.

At that point, work will have begun on the glassy roof canopy, which builders promise will be constructed using the help of “one of the largest cranes in the world.”

That’s par for the course for this particular project, which seems to be gunning for nearly every available superlative.

With a projected cost of $2.6 billion, the stadium and surrounding entertainment district and urban village will be the costliest NFL complex ever built (it could also be the most expensive for fans). At 3 million square feet, it will be the largest stadium in professional football. Its 120-yard video screen (dubbed Oculus) will be the biggest around.

As the renderings below illustrate, the screen will encircle the top of the field like a glittery halo. Above the screen will be a clear roofline allowing light to shine down on fans assembled in seats or luxury suites (there will be 275 of them).

Here’s a closer look at what the stadium will look like when complete:

Its probably just me but I dont get the excitement over the new stadium the fact it is INDOORS. Indoor football just taints the game day experience.thats not the way the game was meant to be played when it was invented like basketball was.

I am probably in the minority here but i wish they would just continue to play all their games in the LA coliseum for the future. Your user name is old school so you at least i would hope would understand how i feel on this and i would think you at least for one, would agree with me i would hope? lol

Have you been to a game in a dome? Maybe the St. Louis stadium since you're from KC?

Yes I went to two Rams games in st louis to see the Rams so i did have that experience of seeing it played in a dome Did not like it at all,it did not feel right at all seeing a FOOTBALL game played in a dome.my thoughts were "this is crazy, this is not fun at all." . I also saw a twins baseball game played once in minnesota as well, got a friend that lives up there.

Nothing at all exciting as going to a royals game here in KC or other outdoor MLB games i have been to either like the cardinals in st louis.

ALWAYS had fun in the OUTDOOR stadiums i went to across the country, not so for the twins when they were indoors.my friend from minnesota agreed as well when i took him to a a royals game here in KC that it was much funner than seeing his twins play indoors.:D

I am not even a chiefs fan,I have always hated them and could not stand them but the times I went since i had a free ticket and had nothing better to do that day,I can say i had TEN TIMES a greater experience watching their games outdoors the way it was MEANT to be played than the games of the Rams indoors. It SHOULD have been the CARSON project called for an indoor stadium with the Rams having the outdoor stadium.

For me,it will be a sad day when they move in there. I am going to enjoy them while i can this year and next in LA outdoors.I will be in LA when they play the seahawks this year so I will have that experience and next year for sure I will be there for the Niner game. No way will i miss a niner game in the LA coliseum before they move in. Wish I could go this year but that would be too much money for me making another trip back to LA so soon.

side not on the Royals, once in your life you just GOT to take in a royals game here in kansas city:),it is the most beautiful ballpark in the country.many of the announcers have said that over the years as well such as al michales for example. You just get lost in the fountains ESPECIALLY at night when they are lit up/:)

only stadium that gives it a run for its money as the best in the country is in SF where the Giants play where you get to look out and look at the ocean.:D

The coliseum is a dump. Would not like for them to stay there. It sucks ass in September with the hot sun beating on you for 3 hours.

The new stadium is going to be open from the sides so it’s not a full domed stadium. The roof protects fans from the Cali sun. This thing is going to be amazing and I’m super hyped that it will be our house!

So, my family had season tickets for Anaheim games and we always loved the outdoors. After the Rams moved to St. Louis, I went to a few games there, but really liked the dome, mostly cause I had never been in one ever before.

But, then I went down to San Diego when the Rams rolled into town. The weather was perfect. It was an awesome football day. It made me sad cause at the time seeing the Rams outdoors in Southern California brought back the Anaheim days memories . I've attached a picture I took that day of my family.

However, this new Inglewood stadium has the indoor/outdoor feel to it with its atrium style roof. Maybe it will end up being the best of both worlds.

Bruh, The LA Coliseum is an Art Decco masterpiece. It was state of the art in the 1920’s. It’s hosted the Olympics a couple of times, it hosted the Dodgers when they first came to town. It hosted the LA Rams until 1979 and then again in 2016. Of course it has been USC’s home forever, it seems. Those facilities are plumbed with Art Deco pipes and fixtures. That shyte costs a lot of money! You should be proud to sit your butt on Art Deco toilets, no matter how bad it smells!

Not to demean or devalue your opinion at all, but it seems weird to me to need a roof (which under normal circumstances you won't be looking at even once) in order to enjoy football.

I went to ATT stadium and the only thing that interested me about any of it was the game. The facilities weren't important to me. That's probably just me though.

In the interest of stimulating conversation, and not me just being disagreeable, what about the presence of a roof reduces the joy of the game for you?

Maybe you are right and I sure hope you are right. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt till i go there and see for myself.

Your wife is very pretty.thanks for posting that.LOL You being at that game in SD,I am sure you agree that it almost felt like a homegame there with how all the LA fans took over the place? Thats why I am surprised it made you sad because it was pretty common knowledge back then that the Rams were coming back to LA as evidenced in this photo below.
btw,you did not happen to get that game on tape did you? I really want that game is why i ask.

I am aware of all that but I HATE INDOOR football. I just hope that karate is right and it being an indoor/outdoor stadium as it is suppose to be,makes the difference and it doesnt feel the same as those disgusting indoor games do.

Lets try no sunshine for starters,no mother nature air.the stadium will be a glass house so we will still get the sunshine but it wont be the same not feeling mother nature breath on you.

I directed the above at Young Ram. The roof at Inglewood is like nothing you or I have experienced before. It reduces heat from direct sunlight, while also allowing natural light into the venue. The sides are open, so there will be outside air moving through it. I hesitate to call it fresh air, because it is, after all, LA.
