I’ve only heard the Matt Daniels rumors but nothing for a while.

Like Daniels always did, but is he ready after only one year? Duke grad, so he's smart and there have been players that have been ST Coaches quickly, however, that was back in the 80's....I would not mind if McVay found a college guy like Bob Gregory of the University of Washington.

We’ll see but he fits what McVay seems to be doing. Former players, young and must have new ideas. Two years under Bones we’ll have to hope he learned well from both Bones and McVay on the job and how to coach guys.

Garrett under McVay would be an excellent OC. I'd be just fine with it. In fact I'd call it a significant upgrade over what we had this year.
No. No, it wouldn't be. Garrett got his play-calling duties stripped after the 2013 season. He managed to lose TWO games we had a win probability of 99%. I can list all the embarrasing records he holds, but you DO NOT WANT any part of Garrett, in ANY CAPACITY.

The difference is he'd have McVay over the top not to mention calling the plays. In Dallas he had Jerry Jones whispering in his ear as GM, Head Coach-in-the-shadow, and Supreme Leader, which is not ideal. Don't get me wrong not a big fan of Garrett or anything I just think he'd be fine under McVay.

Direction we went looks good too though, so we'll see how it goes.

To be fair we were UNBELIEVABLY good on special teams in 2017.

Kick return TD - check
Punt returns - multiple in Seattle and one all the way to the 1 yard line
Punt blocks - more than I can count, several for TDs
Field goals - lead the NFL before the injury
Punts - tops in the NFL in net yards
Coverage - nothing given up
Penalties - not sure but I'd guess this was the only category we weren't elite in

In 2018 we took a step back. In 2019 they were actually below average. While 2017 isn't sustainable (and I'm surprised it's not spoken of as one of the best units of all time), going from that to below average makes no sense when the ST coordinator is given that much roster input, and a lot of the key cogs (GZ, Hekker, Littleton) were the same, and he chose Natson over Cooper.

I NEVER understood that. We truly missed Pharoah Cooper. Natson seemed like wanting a Tavon Austin type. Cooper just delivered week in and out.

And now we've got the diminutive Greg Dortch to compete with Webster for returns, that and whoever our new Special Teams Coordinator happens to be should provide an interesting off-season.

As much as I loathe Jerry, he LITERALLY HAS NOTHING to do with any of Jason's in-game decisions i.e. play-calling. Garrett was NEVER a good OC. Romo made him appear way better than he was, but even then we lost to the Matt Flynn-led packers in 2013 after being up 23 pts at half time because they couldnt stop the run. So what do we do? We completely stop running the ball. McVay would be better off calling plays himself.

Just my opinion.

*Sorry, I REALLY REALLY hate Garrett. Lol

Like he let me go! ~ Rodger Saffold (Titan's SuperBowl winner while we're on the couch?)

good luck against KC, any Rod coins on the M/l 2-1 ?? This move has nothing to do with cap space or getting rid of another coach to keep Bones.
We will see what happens with a new special teams coach. I’m in favor of starting with a whole new special teams group & add the strength to the depth.

Mike Thomas & Bruce Hager must go.

Thanks again Bones you were a good coach for us for many years. He was with the Rams longer than most NFL coaches have been with their teams.

bones as special teams coach has probably taken more reps than any player during his time. Littleton & Hager loved matching up against each other to get better & compete.

I was commenting on other perceived mistakes by McVay, and you don't have to agree with me. The failure to understand how weak our Oline situation was and thus allowing Rodger Saffold to walk, most likely kept the Rams out of the playoffs this year. We made choices like keeping Fowler instead. Fowler did well, but not having Rodger Saffold killed the consistency of our offense (running game and passing game).

Oh, and yes not retaining Bones is massive mistake.

L like Bones, but I think it was time to move on. I guess will see.Hated seeing Thomas over run a play against Arizona. Greg the Leg makes a kick against the 9ers & the Hags which we’re basically game winners doesn’t put the blame on the offensive line. Injuries as well ?? In the end
The Rams will benefit. I’m a Kool-aide fan, but Saffold over Fowler would have made a huge difference.
Will see what happens it’s 2020, so I like the direction, but concerned. Funny this is suppose to be the season heading into the season as a favorite in the division. The is not where this team is right now. There are a lot of question marks, but I’m in favor of being a top team year in & year out. — Missing the playoff hurts, I guess you can’t blame special teams going from the best unit in the NFL to one of the lower tiers. -cheers

Now some feel that Matt Daniels will be elevated to Special Teams Coordinator, however, if McVay wants to look at someone else, I like Matt Edwards of Tennessee Titans...Been under on of the better special team coaches in Craig Aukerman and has quite an interesting collegiate resume that mirrors DC Brandon Staley.

Matt Edwards is in his second season with the Titans as assistant special teams coach in 2019 after spending 15 years coaching in the college ranks.
In 2018, the Titans became the first team in NFL history to average more than 30.0 yards per kickoff return, setting a new NFL record with a 32.0-yard average. Darius Jennings' 31.7-yard kickoff return average set a new individual franchise record. Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern ranked second in team history with a 41.7-yard net average and set a team record with 39 punts inside the 20. His 52.7 percent of punts (39 of 74) placed inside the 20 led the NFL. The Titans had only nine special teams penalties in 2018, ranking second behind the Minnesota Vikings (eight).
In his 15 seasons of college coaching, Edwards mentored 13 players who went on to play professional football.
From 2014 through 2017, Edwards served as the defensive coordinator at Tiffin University. He helped Tiffin to consecutive winning seasons (8-3 in 2016 and 6-5 in 2017) in his final two years there. In 2017, the Dragons led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in sacks (3.0 per game) and tackles for loss (8.7 per game), ranking 19th and eighth, respectively, in all of Division II. Opposing offenses only managed to convert 31 percent of third downs, ranking second in the conference and 20th in Division II.
Edwards served as special teams coordinator and coached the defensive line at Florida Atlantic University in 2013. The FAU defense finished 11th nationally in total defense, broke four sack records and finished bowl eligible.
In 2011, Edwards returned to his alma mater and coached the Miami Redhawks' defensive ends for one season before taking on the responsibility of special teams coordinator and linebackers coach in 2012.
After beginning his coaching career in 2003 as the linebackers coach at the College of Wooster, Edwards spent the next seven seasons working at Kent State, initially as a graduate assistant (2004-05) and then as the defensive line coach (2006-10).
Edwards played his college football at Miami (Ohio), where he served as a linebacker and defensive end and was named a team captain during his senior season. He earned his bachelor's degree in sport organization in 2002.
He and his wife, Mary, have four sons: Andrew, Luke, Nathan and William.

Matt Edwards' Coaching Timeline:
2018-19: Assistant Special Teams, Tennessee Titans
2014-17: Defensive Coordinator, Tiffin
2013: Defensive Line/Special Teams Coordinator, Florida Atlantic
2012: Linebackers/Special Teams Coordinator, Miami (Ohio)
2011: Defensive Ends, Miami (Ohio)
2006-2010: Defensive Line, Kent State
2004-05: Defensive Graduate Assistant/Video Coordinator, Kent State
2003: Linebackers, College of Wooster
