You’re the one who claims others have made these so called great one handed catches while being interfered with in big games. To make such claims the burden of proof is on you, not upon those whom you say needs to prove you wrong. You said it, now prove it. If you can’t back it up, quit making such claims.

Actually i said great catches. I didn't specify how many hands in that post. Cooks had a chance to make two of them and came away with zero.

Edit - and i don't have to prove anything. If you can't remember any great catches in over 50 superbowls what are you watching?

Maybe I am missing something, but won't this rule change be a big incentive to challenge pretty much any long pass play?

I mean, that's probably the best return on investment for a challenge.

I don't know. This rule seems to miss the mark. So if they challenge NRC, is the entire play reviewable... including what happened at the LOS? Was changing that play to completed pass the right answer?

I find most rule changes well thought thru. This one seems to address just one thing, missing potentially others?

Agree with this. PI is a big one, but so are personal fouls - those should have been made reviewable as well.

This IMO is only to fix blatant missed calls - the OPI call on the Niners against us last season, and non calls on Reynolds against the Eagles and Cooks in the Super Bowl would not be overturned IMO.

IMO Ironically the ones that would have this year are the NRC play and the Saints against the Steelers.

I really don't care. New Orleans and New England will feel this the most - for years the NFL has given elite QBs bogus PI calls dating back to Manning.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm under the impression that only the PI is under review, so anything that happens away from the ball is inconsequential. It infuriates me because this change is directly related to the whining of that game.

Confirmsthat most people don't care that multiple plays determine the flow of a game and that the Saints had ample chance to take care of their shit even after all that.

Let's just play one drive for each team and call it a game then.

That’s what I was saying earlier in thread. If it’s only the pi that is reviewed if it is won can the defensive coach then challenge if, for example, the balcwas tipped at los? If he wins that then what? Challenges refunded? One loses a challenge and one doesn’t? Neither lose a challenge? This seems like such a poorly thought out rule that it’ll create a windfall of controversy next season.

Challenging a called PI is one thing. But I don't get how they are going to go about reviewing a challenge of a non-called PI. In that case if they don't review the entire play then it's BS. How can you reward a DPI on review when you have OL holding/facemasking a DL preventing a pressure/sack that may have nullified the pass play to begin with? Has anybody read any details of this new rule will work?

Name them.

And I doubt if WR's are practicing having an arm pulled down while trying to catch the ball.

Ricky Proehl? Just before the catch, the DB was pulling his arm. I thought it was as he caught the ball basically one armed, but guess it was just before

I agree with the concept I just question how to make it work in practice.
The db may have interfered but before that the wr pushed off to get some separation. And if you use super slo mo you see the little forearm all receivers use to get space or the way the db gives the jersey a little tug and can you just look at all 3 or 4 or 5 receivers on any given play to see if you can get a call? I heard someone say it’s to keep egregious mistakes from happening, ok, so what’s egregious and who gets to decide.
Well, the Rams non call decided the game, they say, I think that’s a cop out. If LA scores a td instead of a fg on the Goff no call how is the game different. There’s a lot of little plays that really do influence the outcome and I don’t think we can review them all.

Yep, you could potentially ask for reviews on nearly every single pass play. WTH...?

No way to run a league.

Imagine a review of a PI review where there were no penalties are called

The DE lines up off side before the snap almost a bad as Dee Ford.
The Clock is at 00 before the ball is snapped for a count of two.
A defensive tackle like Aaron Donald is stopped with a choke hold around his neck.
Etc.....

Imagine if John Madden were still around doing games drawing circles around all the penalties saying what about this one and this one.

Nickell Robey-Coleman: DBs can be more aggressive with new pass interference rule

by: Cameron DaSilva

Asshole Face :puke:may have been the one to propose the new pass interference rule that passed this week, but the change doesn’t happen without Nickell Robey-Coleman. His hit on Tommylee Lewis in the NFC title game is what essentially gave this proposal steam, which 31 of 32 NFL owners agreed with.

Without Robey-Coleman decking Lewis and having his blatant interference go uncalled, perhaps the rule doesn’t pass at all. Granted, he probably doesn’t want to be known as the one who caused all of this, but it’s almost impossible for his name not to be mentioned in conjunction with the change.

After the rule was passed, Robey-Coleman appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Thursday to share his thoughts on the new rule, which allows coaches to challenge pass interference penalties and makes them reviewable inside the two-minute warning.

He doesn’t view the change as a bad thing and believes it could allow defensive backs to play more aggressively.

“I think we’ll be able to play more aggressive in a sense because now you have the (replay) to actually review the DB at that time, so it could be a little scuffle play and they call PI and you review it, it’s a possibility it can be turned over after they look at replay,” Robey-Coleman said. “So, I mean, it could be good but it could be bad at the same time. Because if you have a good play and they think it was PI, and it ends up being PI, then it could bring back that play. So it could work both ways depending on what position you’re in.”

#Rams Defensive Back Nickell Robey-Coleman discussed how his play in the NFC Championship changed the pass interference rule in the NFL and what the rule should be called…

"I really think that…it should be the Nickell Robey-Coleman rule. The NRC rule."

You have to watch what you ask for! This could really poo poo the game up.
I'm days late so I hope someone hasn't already brought this up later in the thread. It is possible that this rule could make the "grab the arm the ref can't see " move be less likely to be used by the DB, especially in last 2 min cause it can get called. If that is a result of the rule change, I like it. It will keep the DB honest.

The NFL refs don't call PI the same from game to game during the season. The SB they didn't call any (IIRC) and there were a number of them. How are they going to be consistent with a booth review when they aren't any other time. This better go both ways with offensive PE. The NFL should define the rules for all penalties first. Start with PE and offensive holding. At least it's only a one year trial but, why do it at all?

McVay better start saving his time outs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, this might also make PI a more uniform penalty, cause a booth review will be easier to see a fowl. This could be a great rule cause a ref can't make up his own iterpretation.

Look what it did to fumbles. It's much more consistant.

Could be as I stated in my earlier post that PI is called different from game to game. A better definition of PI would help. Seems like letting defenders have a little more leeway with contact would be better. Offensive players seem to get away with pushing all to often.

While that sounds absolutely fair that they review and make sure no infractions were made. . . That is 22 players, with changing outcomes throughout the play.

The more commercial time they find to shove down my throat the less and less I will watch.
consistantly. Coach has to be specific when challenging any call. Then they review the challenge. Not the whole play.

Richard Sherman says NFL will use pass interference replay to 'control the outcome as they see fit'

We should have known that if any player in the NFL was going to have something to say about the surprising new rule that pass interference can be reviewed, it would be San Francisco 49ers corner Richard Sherman.

As you’d probably guess, Sherman isn’t a fan.

‘One sided game’

It’s a couple of days old now, but still worth noting that Sherman (and newly signed Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle) are not in favor of the change.

On Tuesday night, in response to a tweet by Pro Football Talk that the then-proposed change to let coaches ask for pass interference calls and non-calls to be reviewable had a good chance to get the needed “yes” votes, Sherman tweeted:

“Sounds about right. One sided game. One sided review,” he wrote.

Weddle responded, “Dumb dumb dumb.”

In recent years, defensive players have rightfully noted that nearly all rule changes and modifications have been done to favor offensive players and offense in general, and these Pro Bowl players don’t think this is any different.

The new rule, which currently is in place for just one year, does include offensive and defensive pass-interference calls and non-calls, so it does look like both sides are being taken into account.

‘Now they can control the outcome’

Sherman tossed a little bit of conspiracy theory into the fray as well, tweeting to Weddle, “Now they can control the outcome as they see fit.

“Every defendable pass looks like PI in slow motion.”

Weddle agreed, adding, “But I guess we were the crazy ones for thinking this shouldn’t [have] happened.” On his own Twitter feed, Weddle called the rule the “dumbest decision ever!!!!”

The missed PI call in the NFC championship game that led to the rule change was certainly egregious, but Sherman and Weddle probably aren’t the only players who don’t like the newest change.
