10 WHOLE minutes?
I’ll listen to entire press conferences AFTER the Rams draft players, or AFTER a big trade. Then I can actually hear some TRUTH about why they loved a particular player. Might actually learn something.

But listening to a press conference right BEFORE free agency, or BEFORE the draft? Pretty pointless. Just tapdancing and cliches and smokescreens and avoiding questions.

So yeah, if you think Snead’s meandering was too aimless, or his smokescreens were too smoky, or his bullshit was too bullshitty... go ahead and knock yourself out.

EDIT: Just tried to listen to a few more minutes of it, just to see if Les was indeed “not articulate”. Heard THREE times reporters asking about “when and how the decision was made to move on from Goff,” and THREE times Snead refusing to answer. Sheesh! Freaking pointless, couldn’t watch anymore of that crap...

I have trouble seeing Anchrum as a starting RT just because of his size, reported at only 6'2", could see him as a starting OG one day, but for 2021, he may just become an excellent utility man who is one of the first up in relief. The only real OL question for me is how they handle the Center position, whether they trust Corbett to take over the spot or replace Blythe with a higher quality veteran free agent, should the Rams choose to move Corbett inside, I have Brewer with the best opportunity to fill the RG starting role, although the competition should be fierce. Still, signing Linsley has to remain my top OL priority for a team that's 'all-in' for a deep play-off run. jmo.

Brewer has been deployed as a tackle only iirc. It seems odd to project him inside and the shorter Anchrum outside. Seems like a flipping of positions. But I do recall Anchrum working at OLT apparently as the third stringer since Noteboom backed up Whitworth. Maybe he moves to guard to replace Corbett or Edwards and Edwards moves to Right tackle. The versatility focus seems to be paying off in flexibility at least. I would like to see a guy like Evans settle into one spot so he can focus on that alone.

If they really do like Anchrum I'd guess its as the swingman that plays four positions. I think Shelton projects as the backup at Center. From what Snead said about Allen I don't think he has a lot of confidence in his knee. It really sounded like he sees Brewer as the possible Left Tackle of the future.

In the end I'm just looking forward to a different perspective from another offensive line coach with new ideas. Can all of us fans be wrong in thinking Blythe is not that good? Does Carberry notice Corbett not pass blocking so well?

They may be really high on Brewer. I hope not. No offense against the guy or anything but I'd like to see some fresh blood with this unit. Not all our depth options are future starters most of them in fact will end up being depth options and I include guys like Boom in there with the Brewers and Sheltons and the rest of them.

Snead on approach to getting under salary cap, franchise tag decision

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – One week from today at 1 p.m. pacific time, the Rams must be under the recently announced salary cap of $182.5 million for the upcoming league year.

As is the case with other NFL teams, that can be accomplished in a variety of ways. General manager Les Snead indicated the goal is to do so by restructuring contracts rather than having to make any trades or cuts.

"(Restructuring deals) would be priority number one," Snead said during a video conference with reporters Wednesday. "That's the process that's occurring (right now)."

In simple terms, a restructure involves converting a portion of a player's salary into a signing bonus, with that bonus prorated over the remaining years of that player's contract. Dividing that money over multiple years affords a team short-term cap relief by pushing the cap hit down the road.

Along those lines, the savings are greater for a team when restructuring veteran players with higher salaries compared to rookies, whose contracts have been on a wage scale since 2011 – which explains why Snead said Wednesday they would not be restructuring rookie deals.

Snead declined to specify which Rams players they were in discussions with on restructuring. However, based on data on salary cap tracking website overthecap.com, defensive lineman Aaron Donald, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, wide receiver Cooper Kupp, wide receiver Robert Woods, offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth and defensive lineman Michael Brockers could be potential candidates, with all of them being among the Rams' seven-highest 2021 cap hits.

"This has been an ongoing process, probably for the last, right, really getting into the weeds, two or three weeks, trying to work with everyone to come up with win-win solutions for player and club discount," Snead said.

From a team-building philosophy standpoint, Snead said he is comfortable with the Rams' current salary cap situation in light of the transactions, both planned and unplanned, that have contributed to it. Investments into pillars like Donald and Ramsey are a necessary part of keeping open the contending window the team is in.

"I'll say this, I would rather pay Aaron Donald a lot of money, than not have Aaron Donald but have cap space," Snead said.

Franchise tag philosophy

Yesterday's franchise tag deadline passed with the Rams opting not to use it for the third-straight offseason; they haven't used it on a player since safety Lamarcus Joyner in 2018.

The reasons for doing so were both financial and philosophical, according to Snead.

From a financial standpoint, a team can only apply the tag if they have the space for it, and as alluded to above, the Rams are currently over cap limit. The only way they could've used it on a player is by clearing the necessary space to afford it by the deadline.

Philosophically, Snead said the tag can sometimes make it difficult to get long-term deals done.

"You'd love to be able to not utilize the franchise tag and work to get something done long-term, just because usually when there's a franchise tag used, the history says it's very hard to get something done longer-term off of that tag," Snead said.

I agree 100%.
It sticks out be came in at RT because of the reasons you laid out.
A 6’ 2” T would be nearly unheard of in this day and age.
He may become the infamous (and valuable) “swing” OL who can play a variety of spots in a pinch.
Adding all I know on Tremayne Anchrum it appears that he is being looked @ as an all-important game day four post reserve in 2021. Have not seen anything on TA being discussed by the Rams Org. on being groomed as a center yet. It's what's between TA's ears & his advanced maturity for a very young OL that just sticks out.

TA is very strong did 26 reps pro day. I am sure TA has got much stronger after a full year in the NFL. TA does have some good length in his arms is 33.6 inches. Large wingspan for a short OL'er. TA may not do anything great but to sum it up he can do a lot of good things. Outstanding value as a 7th rd 2020 draft selection.

My projection of Brewer for potentially taking over at RG if Corbett is moved to Center is based on his 2019 play during the pre-season games. Brewer stood out as the best offensive lineman on our team during those games, looking quite good at 4 positions. If in fact the Rams have him projected to LT only elevates my opinion of Brewer as he has truly developed beyond my expectations. Anchrum in the eyes of management may also hold a similar value as a present day utility man at 4 positions and possibly one day becoming a starting OG, my only concern for him as a future starting RT is being held back by his 6'2" frame.
As for what they think of Corbett's pass pro, he's only played the position for one season, so i'd presume he should develop some going into year 2. If Corbett were for some reason demoted as a starter, expect his complete loss to the team following 2021 as he becomes a free agent next year. jmo.

Disagree with some posters here re Snead...

Not a good poker player? Disagree on that. Cam Akers and Van Jefferson as top 2 picks last year? Not many here expected those picks, and we follow the Rams intently. Same for previous year, Rapp and Henderson... hardly anyone predicted those picks. Snead does not give “tells” about the Rams true targets. His smokescreens are excellent.

Also disagree with those who say he’s not articulate. I think he’s well spoken and an interesting listen. Great at NOT saying things too, which can’t be easy. And I enjoy his quirky use of metaphors, like discussing player’s “superpowers” and their “kryptonite”, for example.

He does however, seem like he’s often either tipsy or stoned or... something. Dude just looks like he’s on a substance of some sort... but hey, he’s got a stressful job! Hope I’m wrong on that. But that bright red nose of his sure makes it look like he imbibes a fair amount.

Bottom line... Snead is freaking GREAT at landing mid round picks AND finding some UDFA gems. AND he’s fearless and a schmoozer and gets big trades DONE. Rams are lucky to have him.

I think it's a lack of sleep. If you saw him after last years draft, it was clear that he had been up all night working the phones, etc.

He's too good at his job to have a substance abuse issue.

he's playing chess, and you're playing checkers... you ain't even on the same field he plays on, and it shows...

Well said @sloramfan

I couldn't agree more. Snead is up there to say as little as possible. That said, I find his usage of metaphors interesting and I don't know why the reporters don't try to ask him questions mirroring his metaphors, to see if they can get anything out of him. I guess the reporters aren't able to follow.

For example, I thought his basketball metaphor was interesting and wished the reporters would have used it to sus out his thinking on the difference between Kupp and Woods (2 guard vs. 3 guard?) and whether Higbeast is considered a Center or Power Forward. LOL...

Their whole job is to say a lot of words while revealing nothing.
I agree. So what's the point of watching these things??? If I wanted to listen to someone stammer on for an hour about literally nothing, I would call my mother in law.....

why even post about it then. Go to Old Grandmother in Laws. Then something might get done. Could strike 49er Gold.
There is a lot to take away from it all. He makes sure this Freaking NFL rule sucks because The Rams don’t want to be penalized for certain statements. Myself I’ll listen to it again.

Yo - Bon !! Who is groomed at Center by The Rams ? Shelton & Allen only ??

As you Say TA & what you know.He was the 2nd youngest Ram player I believe last season ? The season before it was David Long,Evans,Brewer, & Edwards.
This last season The youngest player was Cam Akers, which IMO is a Big Key to The Rams future.Having a player that young of age & how he finished the season was really impressive.
David Long & Bobby Evans both are such ASCENDING PLAYERS. You can be down on them & think they both have played at a Horrible Level ??? They have no existing talent as NFL player at 23 years of age with 2 seasons of Experience in The NFL ??? To me it is about season 3 which has always been the standard, plus drafting a JR coming out always takes longer than say a Player that just finished his career in the Senior Bowl. I was a Draftnik way before the internet.
Just a couple telling thing you bring up besides being so you smart.Mature for his age, winner, and the Reps with such long arms for his size.Shows a lot of strength.Whitworth really worked with him as well as a Mentor.
I like your input & points you make on TA.I just think DL & BE both will have solid seasons. Both are still underrated players that also had more NFL experience going into there 2nd NFL season. Then again not having OTA’s & Preseason held younger players back.

Les Snead also broke down knowing players base salary as well.Clearing maybe $5 million total that NFL players were thinking they might get.
—A thing that is not being talked about is how Covid cost NFL players in base contract, yet The NFL owners are still making bank.
