Disagree with some posters here re Snead...

Not a good poker player? Disagree on that. Cam Akers and Van Jefferson as top 2 picks last year? Not many here expected those picks, and we follow the Rams intently. Same for previous year, Rapp and Henderson... hardly anyone predicted those picks. Snead does not give “tells” about the Rams true targets. His smokescreens are excellent.

Also disagree with those who say he’s not articulate. I think he’s well spoken and an interesting listen. Great at NOT saying things too, which can’t be easy. And I enjoy his quirky use of metaphors, like discussing player’s “superpowers” and their “kryptonite”, for example.

He does however, seem like he’s often either tipsy or stoned or... something. Dude just looks like he’s on a substance of some sort... but hey, he’s got a stressful job! Hope I’m wrong on that. But that bright red nose of his sure makes it look like he imbibes a fair amount.

Bottom line... Snead is freaking GREAT at landing mid round picks AND finding some UDFA gems. AND he’s fearless and a schmoozer and gets big trades DONE. Rams are lucky to have him.

Agreed with this. What do people expect? He's not going to tip his hand and say what they're exact plans are.

I enjoy listening to Snead, it's frustrating we never get names of guys they're into, but I also love he doesn't give his hand away.

It will be interesting to see how we do without Brad Holmes.

He also mentioned their strategy to turn "late first round picks" into known commodities. It's a fascinating thing that they're doing. It's a rather unique sustained approach. Other teams do this but not year to year. Can they keep succeeding in this?

No idea but it's gonna be fun to root for another winning team and find out if we have enough to win it all. :cheers2:

It makes a lot of sense as a different approach. Not only turning them into known commodities but all pro level talent. I’ll take one Ramsey every other draft over two Ogletrees or Trung Canidates

I like listening to Les. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to speak on a subject when there is so much of it that cannot be revealed, and trying to be conscious of not slipping up. I’m sure when left to speak freely Les can be a bit smoother. He got himself hired as a GM. That seems to suggest he has an ability to speak well and impress.

You really see him skirt answers when asked about specific players. At least with draft questions and asked about needs he comes out and says he cannot go into details because he doesn’t want to give other teams an advantage.

Again. He is talented and a dynamic risk taker. As a communicator he is awkward at best.

some on here expect so much, and just don't get it..

his articulation, for all we know, may be a part of the cloaking related to not disclosing plans...

were you expecting snead to tip his draft hand? .. give you insight as to who's about to get released?...

(in my best biden) "C"MON MAN!!...

looks like a few on here got hokey doked into falling for the snead poker play...

he's playing chess, and you're playing checkers... you ain't even on the same field he plays on, and it shows...

i thought it was a very good presser, because i knew we weren't going to get any REAL clues as to the targets in all rams related items, just some really good "general manager speak"... not a disappointment from this angle..

march 17 is just around the corner, restructures are certainly in play, and the draft can't get here soon enough...

answers to your questions? .. coming soon to a theater near you...

go rams

Interesting to hear Snead bring up positives on OL'er Chandler Brewer & Ol'er Tremayne Anchrum sure did like what he saw from LT Brewer back in 2019 when he played a big part in the 9er game.

Also thought the positives (y):giggle:on the FOUR Dl'ers who road the Practice Team all season is something that has remained highly UN-discussed.

Jonah Williams looks more like a 43 DE prospect may have some 34 ER in him
Marquise Copeland pure 5 tech'er DL entering his 3rd Ram TC.
Mike Hoecht runs 4.6 40's often can play any of the front DL posts
Eric Banks made the active roster last season but was released & resigned to PS favorite of our DL coach might have more 3 tech in him.

Plenty of good thoughts, and I agree with some. Others ... not so much. However, if you listen/watch that 50-plus minute press conference, and come away thinking Snead came-off as ‘articulate and well spoken’ then we are living in alternate universes.

By-the-way, what color is the sky in your world?

Personally, I was only criticizing Snead’s communication skills ... not his refusal to provide clear direct answers on front office strategy. No one should expect, or even want, that.

I've said it before... I say it again now. He's a stammering doofus on his best day. I know I know... He has great hair. Doesn't change the fact that he derps his way through these conferences.

Love the Harry Carey glasses though.

So hip(ster)..... Doofus

If he keeps nailing the 3rd rounders, I could care less if he dresses like Waldo.
It is a thin line between brilliant outside the box guy and a hipster douche.

Anchrum at RT last season when he got in.
Could see our backup OL being Noteboom, Anchrum, Shelton, Brewer, Evans.
I wish/hope Evans can get himself together pass blocking because he had moments when he looked dominating run blocking inside.
As a side note I have really liked Copeland as a DL also.

I have trouble seeing Anchrum as a starting RT just because of his size, reported at only 6'2", could see him as a starting OG one day, but for 2021, he may just become an excellent utility man who is one of the first up in relief. The only real OL question for me is how they handle the Center position, whether they trust Corbett to take over the spot or replace Blythe with a higher quality veteran free agent, should the Rams choose to move Corbett inside, I have Brewer with the best opportunity to fill the RG starting role, although the competition should be fierce. Still, signing Linsley has to remain my top OL priority for a team that's 'all-in' for a deep play-off run. jmo.

Listening to a Les presser is like riding a rollercoaster.

After the question is asked, you jump in the line. A LONG, meandering line where not much happens, and you ask yourself multiple times "Is this going to be worth it?", and tell yourself "Well, it looks like I'm more than half way, I'll wait it out"...

Then you FINALLY get on the ride (this is when the moderator thinks Les has finished answering and is telling us who is next), and Les blurts out "..and to elaborate, <insert name here>" and proceeds to "sum up" what he really meant. This is the fun part of the ride as you chunk...chunk...chunk up the grade, and then plummet down to some gravity-defying, whiplashy, death-tempting loops and twists.

Then you walk off the ride thinking "Cool. But was it worth the wait?" (as the moderator says "Next question")...

From the 4 pre-season games of 2019 my opinion of UDFA DL'er Marquise Copeland is he played well enough to be a solid reserve @ the 5 tech post mostly not much of a pass rusher but one serious ill-tempered run smasher.
Almost a given ....Whitworth will start @ LT & Havenstein will start @ RT. Edwards will start @ one of the OG posts.

I listened to only about 10 minutes of the press conference, somewhere in the middle. Sounded typical Les to me.... I heard him talk about players’ “superpowers’ and also about “the roses within the thorns” of dealing with Covid protocols. If anyone wants to point out a couple places where Les’ answers weren’t very good, I’d be happy to check it out.

BTW, as much as I like McVay as a coach; I find his press conferences pretty boring.

For both GM’s and coaches, press conferences are about giving quotes to the media while admitting as little “real news” as possible. So McVay relies on cliches and cheery declinations, while Snead relies on meandering philosophizing and southern-charm catch-phrases.

My point is it’s kind of hard to judge these guys as “public speakers” under these bizarre conditions. Their whole job is to say a lot of words while revealing nothing.

I agree 100%.
It sticks out be came in at RT because of the reasons you laid out.
A 6’ 2” T would be nearly unheard of in this day and age.
He may become the infamous (and valuable) “swing” OL who can play a variety of spots in a pinch.

What I would prioritize has literally never matched up with McSnead and co.
OL, WR, CB, LB
