Notes:
- Mundt TE2
- Quiet night for rookies
- Jefferson WR3
- Scott in over Burgess
- Robinson not fully healthy?
- Young "the guy" at ILB

I wouldn't expect to see the rookies much at all this year, and that's a very good thing. Most of them are potential replacements because this team likes to think ahead. So we might not see much of Ernest Jones or Bobby Brown this year. Might only see Rochell when someone else is out too.

Atwell is going to be a wasted pick. A team with as few prime picks as the Rams cannot afford that. Nothing against the person or player. He seems like a great kid, definitely has valuable skills, and I am sure he will contribute on some nights. But our WR group was already stacked, and had the horses to take deep shots with - even if we had no elite deep threat - if the o-line could hold up, the QB could hit them, and the coaching staff could scheme it up. Last night seemed to prove that. If we absolutely insisted on a WR, the one thing we arguably lacked at WR was a big body... Atwell is pint sized. I don't buy the "he's a future replacement" narrative. The Rams are trying to win NOW and need instant contributors in round 2. I think we whiffed...

Kenny Young looked great! Hope he keeps it up.

Really looking forward to seeing how the run game shakes out once Sony Michel is integrated.

Atwell will be the needed speed receiver if DeSean Jackson gets injured.
Having the deep threat will always open up things underneath for our possession receivers.

That's said, I'm surprised that DeSean Jackson only played 26% of the snaps.

Why did Reeder only have 19 plays.

I felt against the Bears that they should have a couple ILBs in the game especially on 1st down, 2nd and short and 3rd and short.

I think they are saving Jackson for later in the season.

That would make sense.

Especially when we had the Bears playing from behind the entire game.

Why risk DeSean until he is most needed.

I think you are correct on all of those points. But if that's the plan, I am not sure a 2nd rounder is worth the investment. How many snaps will Jackson realistically play per night? It will drastically reduce the injury risk. If he does get hurt, I'd rather send Jefferson / Woods / Kupp deep for however many weeks Jackson misses, and have a 2nd round talent elsewhere, rather than having a 2nd round pick be a bench warmer most nights. We also could have drafted a deep treat to open things up underneath much later in the draft, IMO.

Jefferson being the #3 makes me happy. Means we are able to pick and choose when DJax plays.

It appears to me that it's Van Jefferson who has the speed & talent to take the snaps that would go to DeSean Jackson. TuTu Atwell is a distant afterthought @ this time. That draft selection is just wasting space on the bench IMO.

I would put Atwell as inactive & Activate up DB JR Reed so he can put some hurting on those :injury::woozy:RB's running through our DL! Make better use out of the MR53.

DJax is on a durability preservation snap count for late season availability. The Rams have said as much.

Tutu will get worked in slowly with the hope that he'll be ready to step in later if DJax goes on IR.

I don't remember the last time AD played 90+% of the snaps? I thought he was usually around 65-70%? Or am I misremembering?

If so, seems especially odd considering how much the defense was on the field last night...

Too often for my liking because that's why they gave up so many rushing yards. Again, you need more in the box against a running team like the Bears.

Maybe to a degree @den-the-coach , McVay and Morris were evaluating/scheming their 3 corner/DB combinations for Tampa in 2 weeks.

They need to know what their weaknesses are for the big boy teams loaded in the passing game.

Yes they need to work on their run defense as well. That RB in Indy can be a load when he gets humming.

Believe me, I am in no way a fan of the Atwell pick.

However I do understand, as did the Rams front office, that we needed to add speed to our wide receiver corps.

We'll see how it all plays out with Desean's health and durability and if he fades during the season.

You could see by the alignment we were in that they weren't too concerned about the Bears running attack once we were ahead as they were letting the bears run the clock down with their own running game.
Look at that 13 minute drive that the Bears had.
I think I was part of the game plan at that point.
Let the Bears run and let them run the clock down.

Look at the amount of snaps that they gave Reeder, our main run-stopper LB.

I think it was by design, as was mentioned several times by Collingsworth.

Having a burner who can catch the ball is important. Not trying to be to salty, but, yeah, the Rams can afford to make picks like Atwell.
the Rams have 3 starters on D who are UDFA or wire claim.. 2, Hollins and Williams, who are pretty damn good. They got Rochelle in the 4th…. They will get at least a 4th round comp pick when Williams leaves this off-season.
They play the comp game as well as any team in the NFL.

DJax might not have even made it out of pre-season. Atwell's value is as an "understudy". If DJax goes down the show must go on.
That said, other than Kupp, & mebbe VJeff, Rams don't have much luck drafting WR's.
