Nope. We don't need a glaring hole on our roster with no one of any value behind him.
Yeah.

The position is, outside of a handful of guys an absolute black-hole. He finished the year in fantasy as TE6.

Thats how little productivity there is at the position as a whole in the league...

Trade him to an East Coast AFC team. Titans would be suitable, we get Woods back. Its not like we use him much anyways just use the rooks.

What would we get in return, a 6th rounder in 2024? I can’t imagine this is in top 25 options for the roster.

He just had one of his better years, in spite of having below average QB play.

They need to find his replacement but, it has to be someone they develop while he is still on the roster. It would be great if he’s already under contract.

Stop it. He is one of our guys and still good and players like him are not falling out of trees.
He can still have dominate stretches when healthy.

Negative… absolutely do not trade Higbeast…

/end of line

In 2022, among TE's, Higbee was 5th in the NFL in receptions (68) and 8th in yards (587).

He will not be traded

The counter point is that this is a loaded draft class for TEs. Dane Brugler of the Athletic has 5 of them in his top 100 players which is pretty rare.

However, rookie TEs usually take time to develop. Plus you're gaining potentially a draft pick to then spend one on the need you just created. With only a modest cap space gain I think it doesn't make sense.

The Rams have to free up space somewhere, and we likely have a move to make we don’t want to do but have to.

In Higbee, the Rams have him signed to age 30 for the 2023 season. That feels like a contract perfectly overlapping his prime and would be ideal to finish with the Rams.

And then we get a comp pick... right?

I'd only trade him if a team was willing to overpay for him, 3rd round pick or higher. That said, I believe he'd net at best a 5th.
Best case scenario IMO is that they sign him to a 3 year extension. Draft a legit TE who can fill an inline role and let Higs feast in a move role, they've got to play more 12 if they want to run the ball.

What we would get in return is not worth it. After Higbee we really don't have a legit tight end who can do the important tight end things. A good one does more than catch passes. He's good enough as a blocker. He's no Travis Kelce but he's enough of a receiving threat that defenses have to account for him.
