True, we're not and won't be 14-2.

I have thought all year that lack of depth was a problem. If we hadn't had to eat so much cap we could have kept a few more of our proven players who might have made a big difference in games like these.

But the immediate problem right now is much more specific. We were outcoached on both sides of the ball. We were also outplayed, but I would like to think our players could have done better with a different approach.

I have full faith that with OBJ much further into the playbook and McVay figuring out a scheme without Woods (a TALL order, no question), that the offense will be fine. And no way we drop as many critical balls as we did tonight.

It's like we dropped EVERY single critical ball tonight.

The defense, otoh, is another matter.

If Morris keeps trying to make this defense a shitty, hybrid 4-3, we're always gonna have issues...this season. I can't imagine if he doesn't change that he won't be gone at the end of the season. But as he's NOT likely to change much of anything, I think we're looking at each game being a slobberknocker where every team is gonna try to big us up and simply run it down our throats... until we stop them.

I hate that so much is riding on the GB game... but that's where we are now and all we can do is sack up and get right as best we can. Hopefully, it's enough.

The offense will get right. I'm sure of it... or as sure as anyone can be about football in 2021. It's the defense that has me really wondering rn

Two tough Ds have completely owned our offense.
Arizona, too.

It's like 90% scheme and defensive play calls, 10% bad tackling in key moments.

But who runs a light box against 22 personnel? It's insanity.

I knew we were in trouble after the first drive for both teams. I went to bed after the first quarter, looks like we still haven't learned our lesson.

I kinda wish I did... but I saw some structural stuff which won't leave my head, now.

Problem is that I sound like a broken record even to myself.

But this pattern is as solid to me as the 2016 offense's pattern was.

The upside is that of the 90% that was scheme and play calling, I think much more of that is play calling and personnel packages than outright scheme.

If the defense is supposed to dictate what the offense does, by all means, DON'T GIVE THEM WHAT THEY'RE BEST AT!!!

Good grief, this isn't that hard...

That said, this defense as configured, schemed, called and executed is ONLY set up for success if we're playing with a lead and that's just not a great place to be when we're facing a lot of power teams toward the end of the season.

The deep pass early that turned into a pick wasn't a ball that should have been thrown, I knew we were going to attempt the quick strike "break your back" plays too much when we were playing another run heavy ball control team. That told me our offence was probably going to be in trouble. After they drove down the field with a 10 minute mostly running drive, I knew our defence would be gassed quickly. The pick 6 being down 14, I basically thought "Oh, it's the Titans game all over again."

I like the deep shots/plays, they're so much fun to watch, but we need to know when to pick apart a defence with a long drive and when to take the shots. If McVay can script Goff into 10+ completions in a row to start out the game (last year there were like 3 or 4 games when Goff was starting out 13/13, stuff like that), there's no reason why he can't do it with Stafford, IMO. The fact that we're still not doing that is what tipped me off it was going to be ugly. I was hoping it wouldn't be this ugly when I checked the score this morning, but seems like it is.

I haven't watched the rest of the game or any highlights and I doubt I will because it'll likely just piss me off. To me it looks like we're making the same types of mistakes that we did last year, only with more flair because the upgrade at QB.

It's like the team say down after last week, watched the tape, and had the takeaway "yes, this is the team we want to be". I can understand getting punched in the face. It happens to all teams. But to lose in the same fashion, just getting entirely pushed around, two weeks in a row? Bah.

I don't even think either of staffords picks were bad picks. But the general inaccuracy all day was frustrating.

The cherry on top? While watching my team get absolutely shellacked by my most hated team, EVERY commercial break features 30 seconds of espn fellating Tom Brady

It's all in McVay's plan. He doesn't want any more assistants poached at the end of the season!

But dammit. Two weeks for two shitty performances to soak in is no fun at all.

I said high pics. Right now they have a 5th and two 7’s. Good luck finding an impact player.
The Atwell pick was a whiff
LB or oline was a need
Allen's injury is a good time to put in Creed Humphrey - oh wait!

It’s how you build a roster.I think it was predicted that wasn’t going to happen once Coleman Shelton was resigned.
We can talk about bad draft picks, but with Tutu Atwell it comes down to how much stronger he gets & hard work.I sort of like his mind set,but now if you look at the Robert Woods injury you could say it benifits him the most ?
Always looking at hindsight.Reggie Scott’s group is good.Robert Woods is a mentor & a class act.
Have to add I liked Ben Sko & JJ Koski there. OBj will make a difference on the field..

I don't care - I still wanted Creed Humphrey over Tutu lol

Plus I was banging the desk for Biadesz over Hopkins too

I guess I feel you should focus on OL before you focus on other areas on offense once you have the QB you want

Well I wouldn’t trade McVay for any other coach in the league but that said I find it infuriating how poor the TE situation has become.
For a guy who cut his teeth as a TE coach and ran an offense that featured 3 TE at times, I can’t believe what has become of the Rams. Lamenting the loss of Johnny Freakin Mundt? Come on now. Dude is a JAG but still light years better than anything else we have.
Harris, back to WR. Hopkins? Seriously WTF with this? He’s playing less than last year when he was “redshirted”
Can’t even be active?
It’s pathetic.
Higbee, he is what he is. A decent player, probably a top 15 TE in a league that doesn’t have many quality TE.

This team has no desire to play rough & tough middle-grade NFL football. said it earlier last month no better than a 10-7 team at best.

Tons of future investments are involved in this non-competitive Disneyland playoff team .... McVay bad decisions are now showing up. What is going to happen now that this ship has sailed off course with a broken rudder? With very little materials to fix it far into the future.

McVay/Morris is not a good duo going into the playoffs picture. Both are a problem that will bring sadness to the Ram fans

A seriously overhyped NFL team not built anywhere close tough enough.

I added the high in what I quoted. We have a 3rd, 4th and 3 6th round picks coming in via comp picks as well.
