Where are the McVay fan-boys now? Still ready to flame me for saying he's nothing special? We have been watching the same BS from McVay for several years now. 10 points scored?! What a disaster for an offense with this many weapons. He is a good coach, Maybe even a great one. But he can't win a physical contest. Of course, you need to be able to do that in order to win a Super Bowl. So McVay's flaw is literally fatal, and McVay, for all his other strengths, is rendered useless. A real life Achilles Heelm if you will. Could we find a "better coach" on the open market? Perhaps not. But I bet we could definitely find a coach that, despite all of his faults, could actually find a way to win playoff-style football...
Some very questionable play calls in this one. Fake FG? The predictable TE screen? Passing on 80% of your downs? Try again, boy genius. Maybe after years of "not doing a good enough job to put players in a position to succeed", you'd learn. Or get fired. I don't think McVay's leash is as long as many might think if the Rams keep losing to any physical team the same way. Kronke is spending good money on this club and stadium. McVay convinced him "if only I had Stafford". "If we could just get Von Miller". Sooner or later, Kronker will want answers.
Van Jefferson is a JAG. The loss of Woods is going to be astronomical in the passing game, let alone in the running game where he was a great blocker and invaluable at pre-snap motion. Hopefully, OBJ, once he gets up to speed, can replace some of what Woods brings. But he is no Woods. And is a much more finesse player. Which leads me to...
The Rams have 3 skill players players on offense that are truly capable of excelling in a physical contest. Kupp, Akers, and Woods. Two of those are out for the year. You tell me where that leaves the Rams' Super Bowl aspirations. I think Michel could also be decent. But'll never see the field before a game is already out of reach, because McVay is too soft to go with his running style.
Morris is brutal. He'll be gone next year. I am not sure I agree with the "just put Ramsey on Samuel!!!" crowd, though. If he did that, and they completed a pass to Kittle, then the narrative would be "how can you not just put Ramsey on Kittle?!". Ramsey is our only defensive back capable of stopping a physical player. The 49ers have lots of those. Kittle. Samuel. Aiyuk. We were toast from the get-go. We'll continue to be toast any time we face a team with big, physical weapons.
Hekker is no longer a weapon. He now has as many poor kicks as he does good ones. He's not bad, per se. But it's time to move on. Better a year early than late. He's no longer an asset.
Stafford has been very underwhelming. It's definitely a cause for concern, especially as his reputation is to shrink in big games. But I am not going to push the panic button yet. Our last two losses - in which Stafford played poorly, no doubt - were against very physical teams. I think the problem is more so McVay's crappy, finesse system more so than it is the QB playing in it. The sample size is just to large at this point.
So many drops today. Higbee was poor.
The poor depth on this team is showing on D.
I could keep going... but I'm now vented out...
