FWIW, ESPN showed the betting markets still have the Rams as the NFC favorite to go to go to SB. Overall they put a positive spin on it that they looked like the best team last night. They just put themselves in a bigger hole.

Key now is to at least get that 5 seed. That sends you to Tampa or Carolina. Most likley Tampa since if the Rams are 5, then that probably means Carolina loses to Seattle.

Get the 5 seed, then maybe you have to gut out a win in the divisional round at Chicago, Philly, or GB. And you might even have other WC teams win so you still may get a home NFCCG.

Forgive me. There were 15 to 16 MPH winds when he missed it.

From AI
15-16 MPH winds significantly affect field goals, reducing accuracy and forcing coaches to adjust strategies, often leading to shorter attempts or favoring the run game, with a noticeable drop in success rates, especially if it's a crosswind or gusty, though the biggest drops occur above 20 MPH winds.
The flag on the pole wasn't moving.

Explaining the 2-Point Conversion Ruling in the Seahawks Rams Game

There has been some confusion on the ruling behind the two-point conversion.

The most relevant rule to this situation is Rule 15, Section 2, Article 3: Awarding Possession

"When the on-field ruling results in a dead ball (e.g., score, down by contact, incomplete pass, etc.), and following replay review, it is determined that possession was lost before the ball should have been ruled dead, possession may be awarded to a player who clearly recovers a loose ball in the immediate continuing action. A loose ball that touches out of bounds is deemed a clear recovery by the player who last possessed the ball."

The specific situation observed on the 2-point conversion is covered in Rule 15, Section 3, Article 11, Item 1. Direction of a Pass. Whether a pass was forward or backward.

"When an on-field ruling is incomplete, and the pass was clearly backward, the ruling of incomplete will stand if there is no clear recovery in the immediate continuing action. If there is no clear recovery, the ball will be awarded to the team last in possession at the spot where possession was lost."

In this situation, the play was blown dead when the officials ruled initially that the pass was incomplete. However, the ball should have been considered a loose ball due to it being a backwards pass, with Charbonnet picking up the ball in the immediate action. Even though the play was initially called dead, it was still considered a recovery that review would be able to grant to Charbonnet, which resulted in the ruling of recovery of the ball in the endzone resulting in a successful try.

However, some people have pointed to Rule 8, Section 7, Article 6. Fumble After Two-Minute Warning

"If a fumble by either team occurs after the two- minute warning or during a Try:

  1. The ball may be advanced by any opponent.
  2. The player who fumbled is the only player of his team who is permitted to recover and advance the ball.
  3. If the recovery or catch is by a teammate of the player who fumbled, the ball is dead, and the spot of the next snap is the spot of the fumble, or the spot of the recovery if the spot of the recovery is behind the spot of the fumble."
However, this rule applies specifically to fumbles, which as defined by the rulebook is "any act, other than a pass or kick, which results in a loss of player possession."

The rulebook makes a clear distinction between backwards passes and fumbles throughout its text, and even though both can result in loose balls that can be recovered and advanced by either team, they are treated differently in the application of this rule. This distinction is why you can get miracles at the end of games as players lateral the ball to each other, since if this rule also applied to laterals then there could be no advancement of the ball on those plays.

The ball was considered a loose ball that resulted from a backwards pass, not a fumble, and as such it could be recovered and advanced in the endzone resulting in a touchdown.

I take issue with the immediate portion of the terminology. I don't believe charbonnet met this. A show of urgency should preceed immediate not a hey look what I found mom

Also, it makes no sense for McVay to go for two.
If they didn't get it the same people calling for it would be calling for McVays head.
Get the TD and extra point in OT and the Ds job should be doable.
Kicking the extra point makes the offense score twice.
Make them make an extra play.....they did.
Speights was totally lost on the 2 point conversion....it should have been him picking up the TE on the delay and he drifted to someone else.
He has made great progress but still has moments where he doesn't play his responsibility.

This is a big issue with NFL rules.....vaguery.
"Complete the catch"...."a football move"...."a show of urgency".....no one knows what the fuck these terms mean.
the NFL rule book should be cut by 50%.

I can't really see going for 2 there making much sense.

Going for 2 earlier to go up by 17 on the other hand makes some sense.
Yeah.....kicking the extra point on the TD in overtime was the only call.
A tie didn't help Seattle with the standings, so, McVay KNEW they were going to go for two.
Kicking the extra point and forcing them to go for two WAS playing for the win.

2 games this year we let up. Stopped playing our game and now we go on the road because of it.
I don't agree with this.
The offense didn't let up.....the OL, with two backups, started getting beaten up front. That is not a surprise over a long game with a ton of possessions.
Losing Dotson certainly removes a physical piece of the running game.
But, if you look at the play calls after the pick by Turner and after the punt return McVay didn't go into a shell. He was being aggressive. The OL was getting pushed around and the TEs picked a couple of bad spots for some of their 5 or 6 drops on the night.....and a hold call on a longer run.

I was shouting for this in the game thread. Going up 17 was 1000% the right call.

Also if you watch Mevis’ PAT there, even though he still made it, it started fading hard to the right. Was the only one that wasn’t dead straight all year. Foreshadowed what was to come.

Yep, been saying it for a couple years. It is a built in scapegoat and negates accountability through argument

Carolina will win the SOuth. They play the Bucs twice.

I didn't like the two straight run plays = however hard for me to criticize it that much.

Up by 16 with 8 min - running the ball would seem like the right play.
The problem is they know you are going to run and will pull out all the stops. The Rams haven't run out the clock on a good D by running the ball ever. It consistently stops the rhythm of the offense which was pretty hot till then.

Let me just be crystal clear...

The mother fucking whistle was blown on that 2 point play. Period. Undeniable proof has already been posted.

That means the fucking play was dead. No review or replay can be used to change that play after the whistle was blown. Think about how many plays have been totally fucked by whistles being blown (even inadvertently) making the results of the play completely void.

It's obvious to me that the broadcast asshats were then instructed not to replay the play on air because the sound of the whistle would have been clear as a bell. So... mysteriously, when the kickoff was about to happen... Al Michaels makes the bold statement that "No whistles were blown". Like I said though, they purposefully did not show the replay that would have proven the clear sound of the whistle. BTW, as soon as it was blown, you can see our players not even attempting a recovery because they clearly heard the whistle.

Now... we have the replay for the world to see and HEAR the whistle being blown. After watching it, it should enrage football fans everywhere because it shows how the league and the broadcast crew worked together to try and keep the truth away from the peasant fans.

I'm sure the league has forced all teams to just go along with this kind of shit... otherwise, any coach worth a single fuck would be out on the stage screaming for justice. There used to be a time in this league when coaches would call out the refs for shit like this and the league would actually respond. Those days are long gone now because the league is obviously involved with this corruption... they're not going to tell on themselves.

Explosion Remain Calm GIF

This shit should be the leading news story right now... not just in sports... leading all news stories. Nothing but crickets though. When you own the media throughout the world, you can basically write history however you would like to.

Choked again just like the Eagles game. Really pissed off. But I'm not worried. Refs stole four points for us with a BS flag and then awarded Seattle two points for "recovering" the ball after the whistle had already blown. They can suck a fat one. We'll get Davante back, and we'll learn from this. We can beat all these teams on the road.
Yes, we can.

Nobody has put 30 up on chickens at their place, 38 in OT.

Rams can win on anyone’s field.

Just thinkin about this now, but if we go for two and convert we probably win the Division/Conference. Even if Seattle matches our 8-spot we run out the clock and take the tie.

It makes zero sense to do, especially with a defense getting pushed around.
Zero sense.
No coach would make that call and if he did and they lost because of it, which they would have, the coach would be crucified because of it.
