I would trade Cooks before Woods...
Thomas takes over the deep threat role even though he is slower....

However that would actually cause a bigger cap hit since Cooks just got his deal.

It sorta is time for Cooks to be traded. Overdue... 4th team withdrawals.

Clowney is NOT a need...not even for a year! Let him go elsewhere because the DLine is set with good depth. The focus should be on the LB corps and OLine.

I like our roster. I wouldn't want to trade any of our offensive starters.

So lots of people want him. The franchise tag which he refuses to sign is a DE is just over $17 million. We have just under $5 million in cap space. Create room now for a minimum of $12 million more, you'll need more than that but why bother with reality when discussing this :D I saw one person say Woods. Assuming that is a trade that works for Houston his cap cutting him lets say clears off his $6 million base we don't need to discuss the dead money that hurts us going forward. Where's the other money, over $6 million, coming from?
I don't think a Woods deal will happen (or want it to), but the money can work. As you said, Clowney isn't going to sign the franchise tag. That would mean a new contract which could be fit in with Woods' money, the current cap space, and a couple renegotiations. If they want a WR, I can see why the Texans would call, but I don't think it would be a very long conversation.

Clowney = Overated

If anything, Clowney is underrated due to the injuries early in his career and people's expectations for a #1 pick. He's one of the best all-around edge defenders in football. I think he'd be an absolute monster in this scheme alongside Aaron Donald. However, I just don't see how we could keep him past this year. That's not worth giving up a key offensive piece for a rental.

Who would replace him? Especially at the start of the season?
There has got to be someone like a veteran who is cut to make room for a youth movement. Otherwise that will continue to be the glaring weakness on the Rams Oline despite two new starters, imho.
