Well, if the Rams are going to trade Woods, it would have to be in the next 24-48 hours because his roster bonus of 3.5 mill hits on the 20th. If the Rams pay the 3.5 bonus, they'd then face another 8.5 mill in dead money. Basically would cost the same to keep him.
Lol on the Vikings stuff too. They already have JJ (3k in yardage in 1st 2 seasons, what??) Thielen (not going anywhere) and 2nd year guy KJ Osborn has been coming on strong (5 TD in last 6 games)
The Green Bay connection could make some sense though, but not if the Rams eat the 3.5

Rams WR Robert Woods is a “prime trade candidate” per reports

A fan favorite, Woods may end up as the odd man out of LA’s crowded wide receiver room

A quiet start to LA Rams free agency this week has since taken off. The Rams didn’t add any players in the first two days of free agency, then saw Von Miller leave for the Buffalo Bills and signed Allen Robinson away from the Chicago Bears, a move that we saw written in the stars.

But signing Robinson not only took up a receiver spot on the roster, it also means that the Rams must allocate tens of millions of more dollars at the position to one player and so I speculated on Thursday that L.A. could be looking to trade one of their own away. Then on Thursday evening, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that teams started calling the Rams about Robert Woods after they signed Robinson, and that he is now a “prime trade candidate” being discussed around the league.

One such destination could be the Green Bay Packers, as I was speculating about following the loss of Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders. But it would be surprising to see the Rams help out one of the NFC’s few “clear contenders” to reach the Super Bowl next season by shipping them a great player who fits a massive need for Aaron Rodgers.

But the Rams would save $7.1 million by trading Woods, compared to only $3.6 million by releasing him. That gives Les Snead a little less leverage in trade negotiations, if he is indeed on the verge of parting with Woods for salary cap reasons. Woods tore his ACL last season and could be doubtful for Week 1 depending on how he recovers from knee surgery, but he was playing as well as ever prior to the injury.

Woods has a $10 million base salary in 2022, which would limit the number of teams that could acquire him without having to renegotiate or restructure his contract. A big question will be, “What would Robert Woods cost if he was a free agent?”

The Colts, Jets, Dolphins, Steelers, and Chargers might be AFC teams who could theoretically afford that salary, with the Bears, Panthers, and even the Lions (with Jared Goff) standing out in the NFC.

Los Angeles Rams receiving Robert Woods trade calls, 3 potential landing spots

1647612781514.png

The Los Angeles Rams made a surprising dip into free agency, signing Allen Robinson and making him one of the highest paid wide receivers in the NFL. With Robinson and Cooper Kupp now signed to long-term deals, Robert Woods is generating a lot of trade interest.

Woods, entering his age-30 season, is coming off a torn ACL suffered on Nov. 7. While he proved to be a reliable option in the Rams’ passing attack before going down, there are now questions about his future. With Los Angeles seemingly still interested in re-signing Odell Beckham Jr., the possibility of a Woods trade could be on the table.
  • Robert Woods stats (2021): 45 receptions, 556 receiving yards, 61.8 ypg
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Los Angeles is already receiving calls about the availability of Woods. Around the NFL, he’s now viewed as a prime trade candidate who could be moved with the Rams already investing so much at wide receiver.

Following the Robinson deal, Los Angeles is just $2.8 million under the NFL salary cap, according to OverTheCap.com. With key players they likely want to retain and a need for flexibility throughout the year, it’s possible Woods could be traded.

Green Bay Packers

NFL: NFC Divisional Round-Los Angeles Rams at Green Bay Packers

Green Bay just traded a wide receiver approaching his age-30 instead of paying him. However, Woods is already under contract through the next four seasons and he would provide a dependable target for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This is also a receiver who is familiar with many of the finer points of the type of offense Matt LaFleur runs in Green Bay.

Matthew Stafford posted a 107.9 quarterback rating when he targeted Woods last season, per Pro Football Focus. A year prior, Jared Goff managed a 100.7 passer rating when he targeted the 6-foot receiver. Woods is also a good blocker for his position, something that Green Bay places an emphasis on. With extra draft capital and cap space, Woods could be an option for Green Bay.

Chicago Bears

NFL: Chicago Bears at Los Angeles Rams

It would be an understatement to say the Chicago Bears offseason is a disappointment. Not hiring an offensive-minded head coach for Justin Fields can be excused if you hire the right guy. Far more concerning is the front office barely moving the needle to build a quality supporting cast around the franchise quarterback.

Something needs to change and that could be a trade for Woods. He averaged 1,096 yards per season from 2018-’20, proving himself as a top-20 receiver in the NFL. Woods is a security blanket for a quarterback, creating separation over the middle and making plays. If Chicago is genuinely interested in making life easier for Fields in 2022 and beyond, it will call Los Angeles about Robert Woods.

New York Jets

NFL: Los Angeles Rams at Buffalo Bills

The New York Jets prioritized the offensive line and tight end in free agency. It’s a bit of an odd decision when factoring in the talent pool of free-agent receivers, but there is some logic behind it. If New York is building its offense with influences from Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, tight ends and a stout line is crucial. It’s also why Woods stands out as a fit.
  • Robert Woods contract: $15.7M cap hit (2022), $15.95M cap hit (2023), $17.95M cap hit (2024)
The money he’s owed is perfectly reasonable. As for concerns regarding his recovery from the torn ACL, the expectation remains he’ll be ready by the preseason. Instantly, two causes for concern should be wiped out for the Jets. New York boasts the draft capital to swing a deal and Woods is the do-it-all player this team lacks. After not addressing the position in free agency, a Robert Woods trade would be perfect for New York.

This proves that Tutu must be ready.

Seriously, though?
Woods isn't just a good player. He's a perfect fit in our offense and does it all.
He's worth every penny of his contract.

Letting him go would be a huge mistake.

We aren't paying our RBs big money, so we should be able to keep him.

I love, love, love Robert Woods.

LOVE.

And I have faith that if the Rams decide to move him, it will be a good decision.

woods is now our 3rd best receiver and hunter would be our best edge when we are already down talent from last year at the position. The cost is relatively cheap and I'm guessing AD would be happy. Seems like a no brainer. Of course I'de rather trade jefferson but if it takes woods then I think we have to do it

I'm going to agree here, but @wolfdogg and I are ready for the vitriol.

Consider the regular season without OBJ. If they traded Woods then they’d have Kupp, a new player in ARob that’s learning the offense and a bunch of scrubs

That’s not a great look for a team that is going to be playing a tough schedule that includes the AFC West. I’m sure McVay would love to get homefield advantage in the playoffs. Trading Woods doesn’t help with that formula.

I’d trade Jefferson. Woods you can decide on next off-season depending on how he looks and OBJ too. Trade, release, keep, whatever.

But if some team wants Woods bad enough and gives us something better, then absolutely you do it.

I really see Jefferson and/or Atwell as going if there is a deal to be made, but I will no longer be surprised by anything Snead does.

As dieter said maybe the viks already have enoough receivers, however, woods could be traded for a starting CB or draft pick to minn or another team. The draft pick could be used to get hunter. Either way, The rams are in desperate need of an edge rusher, if they want to maintain the qb pressure of last year and hunter would be in the same ballpark as von would be this year. If they didnt add robinson then I'm holding on to woods but he's a luxury at this point.

I'm only trading Woods if your getting a 2nd back. It doesn't save us that much cap that its a great idea. We don't even have OBJ under contract and I'm not pleased with the idea of Von being our 3rd WR anymore after his poor SB performance. He looked unusable. Don't tell the other teams that though, cuz thats who I'd be trying to trade.
