I mentioned earlier that they could create cap room by doing this and still give him a nice raise.

His base pay over the next two years is $14M total. So you can replace his base pay with bonus money and spread that out and save about $6-7M in cap room.

We don't have enough money to pay Woods. As much as I like him we have other needs to address.
That’s not accurate at all. If it wasn’t they wouldn’t be working on an extension would they?

Woods reminds me of Bruce quite a bit, deadly on those cuts, leaves defenders in their tracks. And he's good running the ball too.

does not remind me of Bruce much...Bruce's damn tibula and femur would bend when he cut...his ankles would flex and the turf would ripple under the pressure.....Woods is a bit stiffer and seems to slow down to make cuts more...but man, is a he a great Ram and a great guy!....love it

They have to get through next yr. By giving him a new deal they can clear cap room with the structure. So its a win win.

Looks like they are loading up for another SB run in 21-23.

This yr might be more like 17' was. Just getting some young guys up to speed and tweaking the schemes while they fill a few more holes this coming offseason.

I think so too.

As good as the Rams can be this year, I think 2021 is gonna be a monster year for Rams fans.

This year, we're a damn good team despite being in salary cap hell. Next year we''l be able to spend money and max out the credit cards again...

But also the attitude, he keeps his head down, and his mouth shut, and he works hard. I didn't say he was as good, but he's the most comparable guy in the league as of right now.

And I kept seeing him listed in trades in several mock drafts. I never understood the desire of some fans to move him. He is an integral part of the offense.

Does @flv or any of the other salary cap gurus know how much money we could theoretically clear up by restructuring his contract from salary to bonus? Also doesn't a lot of the Gurley and Cooks money come off the books next season too or will we still be impacted by those? Just wondering if we restructure Woods how much money could we potentially have to play with next year.

I think most post about trading him because of that extra 9 mill in cap, ,that trade him before with gotta pay him hasor just plain lose him..

BTW I agree with you...

And he has 9 mill of money next year and they give a bonus in 2021 they could free up to around 6 mill if they want.. Gurley has a little more than 8.5 mill of dead money next year,ouch....

Imho as of the year look for them to redo Goff or Donald, jmho, they are already over for 2021 and I don't even see Kupps new contract listed for 2021...

They can't spend big next yr, but this draft and maybe a couple of guys in next yrs draft, plus hopefully the maturing of this young OL and the young guys on D.

That should make them better next yr... Especially if Goff takes a step forward and doesn't level off.

I would wait one year. If Van Jefferson is as good as we think, maybe trade Woods and get TWO high draft picks in return? Just a thought. By the way, I love Robert Woods and would like to see the team lock him off for the rest of his career.

He’s an integral part of the core. They need to work something out.

I'll be happy if we sign Woods to a long-term deal with not much cash. I may include him in trades in mocks (yes, @Elmgrovegnome , I won't deny that I'm the most consistent in offering him in trades.), but I love the guy on the field.

Some people don't realize we aren’t anti Woods or wanting him gone or don’t think hes a good player when these trades are included. You keep doing you, some get it.

Huge fan of Woods. I hate this thread because it evokes the what ifs that are negative in my eyes. I’d rather not see Woods be anywhere else, but I don’t want Woods to be low balled either. I think he deserves a great contract, if we can’t offer that then it would be a shame to lose him. He is very important to this O. I mean very, the catalyst. Hope we can give him something close to what he wants.
