Agree, if he wants to play here, and he really expressed that... I would offer $1.25M plus incentives... can't beat that and it is different having a guy playing the game and being a mentor vs a coach.

I agree. I also think they got people targeted and are pretty flexible this year compared to last where they don't have to focus on just getting the O to a modern era! lol I'm excited and think we have people targeted we are going to be surprised with. Unlike past regimes, this ones got their crap together!

I think they're building a team - and actually know how to do it. Quinn is a fine player - but he doesn't actually fit the defense all that great. They've improved the pass defense with Peters, now they will improve the run defense with an OLB who plays the run better and who rushes the QB well when he's not playing the 4-3 DE - a fair amount of Quinn's value was when they weren't running a true 3-4 defense, and while Phillips likes to be flexible, he prefers players who are flexible when he chooses to be, not who need him to be flexible.

It's a gamble, but the Rams are betting that between people on the team and who they can get affordably, that their LB corps will be better, while also having money to front load AD's contract and get a better 6th and get back the 4th they traded. There's a decent chance that they can find some good player there.

There is a risk - I'm sure they feel it's slight - that this will hurt the Rams in 2018 - though I'm sure they feel there is a decent chance the Rams will be better in 2018 too thanks to this trade. It's highly likely that the Rams will be better in 2019 and after because of it.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned - if the Rams use the extra cap space to sign free agents, there is a chance that it will cost the Rams a comp pick in 2019.

When Quinn went to the Pro Bowl in 2013, he was the first Ram defensive player to play in that game in a decade. Most of the 2000s consisted of lousy rushing defenses and over the hill pass rushers that couldn't get in the same area code as the QB.

I used to watch the defensive talent being drafted by other teams with green eyed envy, but when we got Quinn, finally we had something that other teams and their fans were jealous of. Our own Simeon Rice. Damn shame injuries had to wreck that, but even a diminished Quinn was our 2nd best pass rusher.

Sorry to see him go.

the only thing i wont miss is the raised blood pressure from watching offensive linemen bend him backwards with a choke hold and no penalty being called. great player who overcame a nasty health issue to become the best at his position at one time.

They'll be flat out signing their own free agents. Don't think there'll be any big name external fa signings.

I said it long ago, but There was no way Quinn was staying. This was a no brainer. One of the highest paid players on the team with little dead money if released. A shell of his former self.

Getting a 4th is a bonus.

If Talib is cut then signing him doesn't affect free agent compensation - only players who have played out their contract matter. But they could decide to give up a late 6th, maybe for a future 7th, so that they are guaranteed Talib or another player who is going to be cut.

I don't believe cut or released players are considered in the comp pick calculation. Could be wrong, but they are not considered true UFAs.

Yes I hear you. Guaranteed we have our sights set on quite a few players Wade, Snead, and Demoff think we can be better off with. Quinn was one of the older players I was more attached with but his $ number had to have been one of the biggest factors in this trade.

It's one of those things...you don't want it to happen because you like the player....he's been a rider for your team.... But Rob doesn't really fit the 3-4 at this point... and it was either keep him for lesser money...or move him for a pick... Happy for him to keep the dough from the contract... Robert Quinn was a really solid player and a solid dude for the Rams....

We got some really nice cap relief on this.... OLB moves to the top of our needs list....which is fine after we acquired Peters..... this is going to help us keep the guys we need to keep ..... I would move on from Mark Barron as well.... we need to fortify our ILBs as well... but we got options...cap space..... and a roster full of young talented players...

It's crazy that the Rams moves right now are the talk of the league.....

Fins trade for Robert Quinn - 4th round pick and swap of 6ths

Can't get enough of these Rams defensive players. Hope Hayes stays, as well...
-------------
Lmao guy makes 11 million base this year.

Wake is gone.
-----------
What a grab very good player
----------
Quinn and Harris could be a pretty lethal pass rushing duo.
------------
True. They should combine for about 15 sacks with Quinn getting about 12 or 13 of them.
-----------
This is huge
-----------
Holy Bat Chit Batman!!! Whatta grab. I guess DE is no longer a need.
-----------
I like Wake. We all love Wake. But honestly, if you can pay someone like Quinn something similar to Wake and he's only 27 year of age. Why not?
-----------
Young kid, good player. I like this trade. He’ll complement Charles Harris and Wake.
----------
This is our Calais Campbell.
----------
Wow just wow.
----------
Quinn has that nasty attitude on the field just like suh too.. love it
----------
Wow.

He’s a phenomenal player who didn’t fit the 3-4 LA runs.

Easily Miami’s 2nd best defender now. Got him without involving Landry? Can still trade him for a player or pick/s.

Mike T with a win in my book.
---------
Quinn can play. With Miami’s new DL coach, I’m expecting bigger things from Quinn. This is the type of player Miami has been missing from the RDE spot since Taylor retired.
-----------
Wha??????????

Who in their right mind trades a dude like Quinn for pocket change????

There's gotta be somethin' stinky in the woodshed.
----------
Home run as far as I’m concerned.
----------
Wonder how Quinn feels after being traded for a stapler and a coffee machine
----------
Quinn is a stud . For anyone second guessing this guy has never watched football. He was one of the biggest wow players I have watched in the modern era . My question is why the rams would even let him roll out but it could be a salary cap issues with strong picks in the tank new contracts looming
-----------
4th and Swap of 6ths

And why they wanted to move him.

Doesnt fit what they want to do on defense.
Has an availability issue with the money he gets
Hasnt been the same since the back Injury
Rams dont feel they will see a full 16 game season out of him and too much to pay for a rotational player
-----------
Guys...Could this mean that maybe it's the Rams, that are working a deal for Landry?
I'm no Draft Guru....Just having fun with the ideas that are being thrown around.
I did hear that Austin was on a short leash.

I think ROD members have shown just how in touch with the Rams they really are. Many predicted TruJo wouldn't be back, many called for Quinn, Barron & Austin to be CAP Casualties, traded or cut months ago. TruJo may not be gone today, but CB1 has a new name stitched on the uniform and we are probably not going to overpay for CB2. Quinn has been traded, Austin has been told he is either traded or a CAP cut, so only Barron remains on the list. The Rams could be holding out for something more as they did with competing offers for Quinn, or there may be no offers and they are just waiting for his doctors to clear him before he is cut. Watkins may be in a precarious spot as we are told they would like to sign him “If we can make that work.” Not exactly the most positive of announcements for continued tenure. The Rams now have well over $51mil in available CAP and could easily add $10mil. more with Austin/Barron, and this already accounts for signing our draft class.
These last 10 days Snead has already taken us on a pretty wild ride, free agency is looking to be very exciting for filling a number of roster holes, then the draft will allow us to fine tune the previous carnage. McVay rebuilt the offense last year, and true to form, Wade Phillips looks to be getting his opportunity to build his defense in his own image this season. Great time to be a Rams fan while coming off a great season and looking to create that perennial winning legacy. Lets make a date for our team on Feb.3 2019 at
Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Matt Longacre is being over looked by Ram fans. He out played Quinn early in the year.

Quinn had back issues that amounted in surgery. You can tell for years it took him a while to feel comfortable again. Quinn outplayed him in the second half and playoff game. He was coming back into himself and getting comfortable with the D. Longacre will fail us as a starter at OLB. There is a reason he doesn’t start a game or do situational pass rush in the beginning of games... he is very good at situational pass rush plays where he has fresh legs as opposed to the OL being worn down. We need to get somebody else to create a constant pressure and production.

Those are the types that are game changers. Quinn was a little lost. I still think he has upside & Miami might have a real good defense. Tom Brady is not all that happy this weekend.
You say situational . The Rams will use different packages. Donald can even rush from the outside against certain teams.

I agree they are game changers but he sure asf isn’t a 16 game starter... I’m sure we have somebody targeted in FA for our blind side OLB or past the first 2 rounds in the draft.

Yes Donald can? I don’t get what point your trying to make here?:redcard:
