They don't want to lose their job, even if they weren't getting paid.
It's an honor for these women to get one of these spots, its extremely competitive.
Very true, but lets face it, its a job that the only perk is bragging rights. If that is more important than their dignity than that is their call.

Makes me wonder how these photo shoots for mags like sports illustrated swimsuit, maxim, etc are conducted? Is this normal and these cheerleaders are just not used to it or was it a truly sleazy act?

The whole escorting bs is exactly what it is, b.s. That goes above and beyond what they signed up for and they should have never been asked to do such a thing.

I would like to know why they took their passports.

Yeah, to me that's the big one. Is that even legal?

Beyond that, they could have felt like they had no choice, even if they didn't want to keep their jobs. Perhaps they thought that if they refused they wouldn't get their passports back, and then what? Take it to the extreme, and say they refuse to do this, the team fires them, kicks them out of the hotel (as they are no longer employees) but somehow "can't find" their passports. What then? They'd be pretty screwed, right? In a foreign country, with no place to stay, and no passport to fly back home?

I don't know if blackmail is the right word, but it could very easily fall into a "do this if you ever want to see your passport" again situation. They would go along simply because they felt they had no choice.

What some Redskins fans are saying about this.......

Redskins Cheerleaders Describe Trip to Costa Rica that Crossed the Line

Wow this could be real ugly.
-----------
If even half of this is true, it's horrendous. More Dan Snyder greed and using people like meat. He does the same with ex-players and current players for that matter. So this is no surprise.
-----------
End of Bruce Allen for sure. This is part of his “winning off the field” menu ... wouldn’t shock me if this takes down Snyder as well, if the league decides to come down on him for it.
------------
This is literally how human trafficking rings operate. What the **** is wrong with this organization.
------------
When you run your organization like a dumbass, there is nothing totally out of the realm of possibility.

This is ****ing disgusting.
-----------
This is disgraceful and always gets me so frustrated thinking about something like this happening to a family member or someone I care about. If this is true, someone needs to be fired and whoever is allowing this sort of atmosphere to blossom needs to be gone as well.
----------
This is absolutely deplorable.

I can't get into it now because I'm seething and will get myself banned, but if Bruce isn't gone after this (I would hold him responsible if not Dan), then I'd seriously have to consider backing away from this team. This is worse than Rapistberger-type **** given the pervasiveness, secrecy, and extent of it.
-----------
I was talking a few years ago with someone who used to work there, and they said that Snyder would ask for outtakes from the video footage of these cheerleader trips, and that there was indeed nudity. Never knew if that was true or not, but would not surprise me after reading this. Would not surprise me BEFORE reading this, to be honest.
----------
Bruce needs to be gone and Dan needs to sell the team.

I mean it, this isn't good
------------
There is not a single good reason for anyone to be a fan of this team. It’s not enough we have to be pathetic and humiliating losers on the field, we also have to be disgusting pieces of trash off it.
-----------
I love watching Football, but the NFL continues to do things to make me not like them nor justify supporting them. I don't care which team's cheerleaders this happened to, the truth needs to come out and any owner, including this team's, needs to be forced to sell the team if they had knowledge of this and helped keep it quiet.
----------
I can't imagine that this won't end in someone's head rolling. The higher up the head, the better.

It just amazes me that a little over 10 years ago the straightest straight arrow in the entire league, Joe Gibbs, retired. How did this team become such a cesspool off the field, let alone on?

Taking a persons passport is creepy bad. Never in life should that happen.
I'd like to hear a bit more about this. This whole thing smells of a money grab. Five years ago? Sounds like somebody didn't make the squad this year, and is feigning moral outrage?

Hey. I can speculate like everyone else. :hiding:

Edit: By the way, did the team "collect" the passports in a foreign land to protect the girls from losing them, or having them stolen? Lots of jumping to conclusions here.

Absolutely disgusting behavior by the Redskins and Dan Snyder. I feel terrible for the cheerleaders.
Snyder is an easy target. I don't pretend he is a victim in this. But I will reserve further judgment until I hear more. These girls go in as sex objects. Willingly. The moral preening with some people is a bit much. I'm not sure anyone is a victim here.

I love the female form as much as the next guy, but the cheerleaders sometimes seems to be a distraction. They often make female fans uncomfortable. Is their guy there to watch a game, or lust after gyrating girls? I know it is part of the NFL culture, and I am not crusading against it, but this "outrage" over being exploited rings a bit hollow for me.

Wow.... Pretty disrespectful IMO.

They aren't models posing for Maxim etc they are cheerleaders, but regardless, if what was expected of these women to do wasn't explicitly explained to them, where they had the choice to participate or not, it doesn't matter, its just not right IMO

Maybe disrespectful to you, but i was raised differently. There needs to be some responsibility held by the cheerleaders if they agreed to partake in the event that was explained to them.

Edit: reread the story, and i read it wrong. I was not aware that they granted high rollers access to the grounds during the photo shoot AFTER the cheerleaders agreed to different terms. My apologies for the ignorance.

This is terrible. Passport confiscation is a power move. Cheering for their team is their main occupation as an NFL cheerleaders, outside events being charitable in nature. Sending them to a adult resort and having them posing topless near wealthy clients, and then making them act as escorts to those creeps, while holding the power of them leaving the country (passport confiscation) is so bad. The Skins need to be hammered over this.

Did you read the article? The events weren't explained to them, that's the issue. They knew it was a photo shoot, that's it
"the only perk is bragging rights". You were raised differently how? I was raised to respect others

Wow. I can't imagine having this cynical of a view. The Redskins didn't eveny deny it.

Did the team collect the passports to protect them?

Fair enough. My partiality is also strong here, as I have a pretty close friend who worked as a professional cheerleader and the unflattering sterotypes of cheerleaders can irritate me. So I apologize for coming on so strong.

Costa Rica isn't frakin' Beruit
What are they protecting the cheeleaders from that they would need to confiscate passports? The zip line experience, holler monkeys? A day trip to Panama coffee plantation? Plankton?

Costa Rica has a huge prostitution ring. Worst in the world if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah the passport part just really confuses me. There is zero reason to take them except to limit their ability to move freely or leave. Unless they were afraid some of them would lose them and they didn't want to deal with that? Like, did they say "We're going to collect your passports to keep them secure." it sort of makes sense but it shouldn't have been a forced thing. And if I was there no way I'd ever give up ID on foreign soil... hell I wouldn't do it in America. That's just weird. The escort and topless stuff doesn't surprise me unfortunately.

Boobies are good
But
Confiscating passports?
Sounds like an episode of Locked Up Abroad
Are they cheerleaders or cocaine mules?
Holy crap
I have learned one thing from every single episode of that show....if traveling abroad and a friendly, outgoing stranger offers you cash to smuggle drugs out of the country, um, don't do it.
