Agree. This is the Rams dilemma now. They are being pushed into a new path forward— what could be called a rebuild— by circumstances, one decision at a time.
Rams built a Super Bowl champion by having a small core of great, experienced players, with the rest of the roster backfilled with lower round picks and opportunistic signings. The model worked in 2021 but fell apart last year. They lost not only Whit but Miller from that team. Now they have lost Wagner and may be “losing” Ramsey.
So the old model may be kaput, because the circumstances now may be that they are better off filling other holes in the roster rather than keeping a star (pun intended) cb who was crucial to a championship.
These may well be the right decisions but they are unlikely to result in Rams contending for the Super Bowl this year. Of course, neither might any other path forward right now.
