This is the one that has been covered the most so let's start here...

Pre-snap Goff tells Hendy he's on the wrong side. Since we don't know the call I presume here that Hendy knew his route was on that side but missed the motion, so that leads me to think Hendy was not on protection duty
1604361800070.png

At the snap Hendy's in motion. I've put the routes on the still and you can see the play is designed with Reynolds as the HOT (red). He's the blitz beater. Reason I think that is a safe assumption is the other two clear it out and that underneath should be open. Solid design, nothing special, pretty fucking common in fact for a redzone pass play.
1604362405320.png

At the drop Goff likes the matchup on 81 and is ready to throw it. But the Dolphins brought 6 and there's only 5 OL. The QB simply did not note the protection issue. Had he noted the protection issue he has two options: 1 is throwing to the HOT, and 2 is checking out of the play. Goff has full control at the LOS and could easily check out of the play but he didn't. Because he missed it.
1604362599394.png

And that's a wrap. Bet that DE's eyes were big as saucers lol. ALSO: note the DB's positioning there and tell me how you think that throw would have gone down, hard to imagine that resulting in a TD for us.

I have to agree with Merlin and his stills. Goff needs to be aware when he sees 6 guys on the line, and only 5 blockers. But he obviously thought Everett was the best option, and did not even consider Reynolds or Henderson. And it looks like both of them are wide open and might have scored a touchdown. I give Goff credit for standing in there... he's a tough MOF... but he needs to be able to read defenses better. I don't get it... he has always been able to move around a bit and avoid hits, but yesterday he looked like a rookie at times. JMHO.

Pre-snap Woody in motion

At the snap Dolphins bringing 5
1604363515062.png

At the drop protections look good.
1604363568865.png

Protections look good. Wood is top of the screen, Reynolds about to hit his break, Kupp running a crosser. Reynolds is about to be wide open but the throw would need to be in the air. As I've mentioned before I don't think Goff trusts Reynolds.
1604363687380.png

Goff taking the checkdown right here. That's Reynolds circled.
1604363864992.png

Kupp makes a great RAC here for an additional 9 yards. But a throw to Reynolds would have been more and maybe much more.

Looking at this live the corner on 81 was flat footed. He would have gotten beat. If Henderson is supposed to be running a route, it's a bad one. The first read is on the left side, the hot route is moving right to left, the clear out routes are not options IMHO. No reason why Goff would turn Hendo's way unless it was a screen.

Even if Henderson is running a route he can't run away from that rusher like he did. He has to realize that there is no one in the backfield. This is a block I've seen gurly make 1000 times. Even a bad block would have given Goff the extra second to get that ball off.

We are not privy to information regarding who is supposed to do what or who made a bad decision.

It could be Mcvay, Goff or the RB.

Mcvay is taking the blame in the post presser, and that’s the right thing to do. Even if he’s not at fault and it is Goff or the RB, it’s on Mcvay to correct it and he will.

1604368683800.png

Pre-snap empty backfield, and the Dolphins have 6 on the line
1604368767357.png

At the snap 5 come with one being a free rusher off the left side edge. Same design here with the HOT being the shallow crosser but this time it's Kupp. The DT drops into the HOT path, nice zone blitz wrinkle there by the Phins. This time Goff does see the pressure.
1604368830760.png

Goff pulls the trigger here to Kupp, a poor decision

DT probably can't believe his luck

At the snap one rusher is free and Hendy is in the backfield to take him

Right before Kupp breaks you see 90 doing a good job of reading Goff's eyes and trying to get in the lane
1604369582278.png

At Kupp's break you have wideout ready to bust a TD and Goff winding up the throw. Rusher has Hendy beat Goff knows he's gonna take a hit

Still seems like Goff is clueless on how he wants to counter blitzes. Hendo seems like he's still learning pass blocking assignments as well. Mix the two and the Rams got exposed.
I hope they work blitzes to death in practice. It can never be bad to have a package of quick hitting plays that get the ball out as fast as possible.
I would work some TE screens, but I'm a dummy on the couch.

Seems to me just a busted block on the first one. You would think Hendo should of picked him up there but who knows. Goff just never even looked that way. Certainly was a DE's wet dream
The line in general didn't do a good enough job holding blocks to give Goff enough time. Give Miami credit though, they came with a good plan and got after us and disrupted what we do. I still think given how we ran overall we should of not thrown quite as much.

Situation
1604370012132.png

Pre-snap Phins showing cover 2. Left safety has deep responsibility (Jones bottom screen is on an island) and right safety will team up with 52 to double Kupp
1604370299523.png

At the snap 52 is dropping and 54 is starting a stunt that will bring pressure in Goff's face.
1604370473797.png

Edwards tries to stay with him, and we can see the routes are pretty much covered
1604370558812.png

Edwards does a pretty good job of pushing him past his QB. Ugly but effective. But Blythe's assignment is coming free
1604370677240.png

1604370743048.png

Reynolds has managed to get a step on the DB and Goff risks the throw
1604370811510.png

Goff misses a bit behind, the DB tries to haul the pass in but drops it. Note Reynolds as usual not providing any sort of aggression to the ball.

@Merlin in your first post Hendo has a TD. Two faults here:
1) Hendo for not chipping the blitzer and calling for the rock
2) Goff for thinking his windup is faster than an all pro DE. Didn't even look at his hot read.

I am 99.9999% certain Reynolds is the hot there. That is Goff's outlet for heat. But you can't design a play to cover everything so this is why the QB has to ascertain the threats pre-snap and know if he's got to make that throw.

Goff missed it man. Straight up. Hendy is the backside decoy and they probably expected the free rusher (design-wise) to take him but he took Goff out and it worked because the QB didn't use his outlet (Reynolds).

Punt return for a TD.

At the snap Web is getting run off the field here
1604371528333.png

I'm no special teams guru that's for sure but look at the lack of lane coverage along that sideline. It's not like the Phins are blocking them out, it's basic lane discipline IMO. And Web is making his way back to the field here bottom screen.

Web crosses inside here to get free and get downfield

I honestly have no idea wtf Patrick is doing here but he sort of watches the guy run by.

Wonderful work as usual Merlin. I see issues not with just Goff but the receivers and RBs as well. WRs have the responsibility to know when their hot and too many times WRs simply ran the route as schemed but Goff had no time to wait. IMO yes to some degree it's Goff's fault but it's also a MAJOR coaching failure to get the entire offense on the same page. The WR's can see it's cover 0 so it's up to the WRs to adjust because it's an obvious blitz. But they don't. Had they broken off their routes Goff would have had options but his WRs weren't exactly understanding what was going on.

This is on McVay and O'Connell in coaching up Goff and the WRs. They will see more of it from here on out and it's up to the WR's to understand their responsibilities. Robinson and Waldron share in this blame. This was a complete breakdown by a coaching staff being complacent. I didn't always agree this game with some of Staley's decisions, but overall his scheming is night and day from the early season. In the last couple of games, Staley and his guys aren't complacent anymore.

That level of coaching up their players must be shared by all the other position coaches regardless of what side of the ball they are on. Yeah, Goff and McVay take the heat, but I see a deeper issue with the RBs and WR position coaches. Here's to hoping they get it all worked out during the bye.

Frames are kinda, for me, about like statistics. They can prove anything but its not the reality.

In real time, look at where goffs head neck shoulders and feet are as that play happens. Its just as easy to say he expected a block behind him.
Its not on his blind side but its on his backside, away from his vision.

The pick to the DL was Goff making a poor choice and throwing without seeing... but again, the defense did the literal PERFECT thing on so many plays.

Situation is the play before the sack and fumble on 3rd and 8
1604372354511.png

Pre-snap another zero look and that's Byron Jones down there on Reynolds bottom screen
1604372437428.png

At the snap Goff reads left
1604372596474.png

At the drop Goff is still reading left in fact he's eye fucking Reynolds still who is up against Jones. Let me ask you in what universe do you bet on Reynolds vs Jones. Also there's another option wide open for an easy first down.

Next play pre-snap 3rd and 8 Phins in single high. Goff has Everett move in to help with protections.
1604373174875.png

At the snap you have Everett singled up vs 90 which is a mismatch. Brown is aligned other side of Goff and doesn't note this.
1604373077502.png

At the drop Everett's having a hell of a time and Brown's blocking air. Nobody's open.

This is why I put up the situation so folks can review the play themselves. But yeah sometimes I wonder if folks even look at them or give a fuck lol.

But either way I wanted to see how bad it was. It was worse than I thought tbh.
