Yeah big terminology difference between Pats and Rams. He is going from a very efficient system (call-wise) to the phonetically challenging WCO. Should be online after a few games or so.

Yeah, one thing both the Gruden and Belichick schools are consistent about is not trusting rookies to just step in.

That Michel played and played well for Coach B in is rookie season as the main back says a LOT about the trust for the other facets of the game, specifically protecting Brady on blitz pickup.

The more I look into this the better it looks for us.

Pats fans were saying that of all the backs, Michel looked the best in camp, but that wasn't gonna be enough to change Coach Bs mind... especially with the rook from OU shredding in preseason.

But we've got a Georgia RB entering his contract year both healthy and with a chip on his shoulder.

Also... don't be surprised if Michel does well if we don't extend him presuming the contract is reasonable. You'll notice the Browns aren't dealing Hunt when they have Chubb... I don't think Akers/Michel are in that tier, but the tier just below it? Yeah... and I like our passing game an order of magnitude better than Cleveland's (although, I do envy their OL).

The Rams FO have been remarkably consistent in preferring to use picks to get established players instead of drafting them and really focusing their draft and udfa picks on fits, both scheme and outlook and have been pretty successful, thus far.

I think the first time we run zone right and Michel picks up a nifty 12 yards, a lot more will feel better about this.
I agree if he plays well they’ll extend him. Most RBs with Achilles injury are out of the league in 2-3 years. They lose burst/acceleration, lateral movement, and overall speed. Sure hoping Akers is different but statistics usually hold true.

Hope the great camp he was said to be having makes him look more like the 2019 version. He looked more spry / elusive then in those highlights than he did in the 2020 highlights.

With medical advancements you never know. I ruptured my left Achilles in my twenties and my right Achilles in my fifties and it was amazing how much better my right one was compared to my left one. So with Akers hopefully there is new treatments and procedures that will make it so Akers is as good as new. Hope

Does this trade remind anybody of the one the Rams made for Faulk? Look how that turned out! I'm pumped and can't wait for the season to start.

Not quite the same.

Marshall Faulk was awesome with Indianapolis

I find Sony Michel to be a very good back but not anywhere in the same class as Marshall

I think McVay has seen enough of Funk to want to really see him in games. I think Funk will rotate with Sony behind Henderson. Funk has breakaway speed, Jones doesn't, and Michel doesn't either but he's faster than Jones and more experienced. The reason I think they need a good look at Funk is to determine his durability and it will shape their options in regards to Akers when he returns next year.

The problem with a RB Achilles injury is the majority experience a loss of speed and explosiveness upon return. Most RB's even after return don't play much beyond 3 years post-injury. So the Rams need to know if they need to be thinking of drafting a RB in 2023. I see Funk as the Ram's way of extending Henderson's durability. Funk has even more speed than Henderson and has shown he can break arm tackles. This means the offense doesn't change between Henderson, Funk and Michel. It does change somewhat with Jones. Jone's perimeter game will be swing passes.

The main reason I see Henderson and Funk as 1 & 2 is they present the same level of threat to a defense. Michel and Jones simply don't offer that same level of threat. Jones and Sony will need to work to overcome that perception. Needless to say I like the Michel acquistion a lot.
Dude. They did not get Michel to play behind a rookie. I see value in Funk but as a ST and spot player this year. He could develop into a good RB2 but not this year.

Florios take on this confirms my biggest question in life; how the fuck does he have a job in this business?

The title says it all; rams contiue to disregard draft picks.

Seriously??

It should read; rams score with former 1st round pick, offensive rookie of the year and sulerbowl mvp.

Of course he gives you some factual analysis but leaves out all the critical context.

Rams get a back with years of experience on an elite team but with with little wear on his body due to the pats usual rb rotation.

He's in his final rookie year so we get him and his experience on the cheap.

The rams HAD TO make a move at the position and this is a home run. Just like Anderson in the recent SB year but Sony will be better in this offense and is younger.

I will take my chances with extending Sony if needed rather than drafting another rrb next year, and if that were to be in the 4th or even 3rd round, I'll again take my chances with Sony over that pick.

Sorry for all the semicolons but I went to the Elaine benis school for punctuation.

One more thing fuck florio!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, this trade reminds me of Faulk too!
A SB winning running back who was excellent on 3rd down!! Yeah, my mind went straight to former Pats RB Kevin Faulk.
But I don't think the Rams ever traded for him. The only Ram named Faulk that I can remember is 1st Ballot HOF Runningback Marshall Faulk, one of the best to ever play the game, but obviously we're not talking about him because that would border on blasphemy....

Florio is in the camp of shitting on the Rams every chance you get. Not sure what fueled this but he is not the only one. There are others in this camp like NFL GMF Kay Adams (while purposefully very cute) takes every chance to do the same (which tarnishes her purposeful cuteness).

What do you think?
I am thinking Snead/McVay are keeping their eyes out for a very solid 3rd down back with strong abilities in pass protection & pass receiving. Most likely a veteran who has some size & knows exactly what he is to do for Stafford. Does not matter if he is long in the tooth or has very little rubber on his wheels.

That was as much Evans as anyone. And, it happened twice. Who knows what the line call was but, Rvans should have been passing the guy in front of him who was sliding away from the blitz.
Not the one I saw. Funk came up to the Ä" gap" close to the line of scrimmage. Evans' Tackle went inside. And the OLB took the OT outside. 2 delayed blitzers came right through the gap w/ one getting to Perkins. Now I don't know who had which assignment but usually an extra blitzer (or 2....) is the RB's responsibility. And he took himself out of the play early.

Good trade for both teams.

Kay is the sideline reporter for the Chiefs this Pre-Season. All of Chiefs Kingdom is in love with her.
