Wouldn't rule out the Rams trying to resign him if he's not too pricy. I suspect that McVay, Carberry, and Thomas Brown could all align on keeping a more powerful runner like Michel on the team if possible. And Rams should have more bucks and a much higher salary cap next year.Yes that's the general thought process behind this trade I think. We likely give up a 4th comp pick in 2022 for Michel and hope he shines for us in 2021. Next year if he is signed by someone else we get a comp pick in 2023 like you said. Being a RB who, barring Hendo going down long term, will be a complimentary piece of a RB rotation he probably won't garner a huge contract since those are rare for RBs these days. So I wouldn't count on getting another 4th back but at the very least we may get a 6th or possibly 5th.
I like Michel a lot but Akers/Michel/Henderson is a ton of talent in the backfield. Too much. Not enough carries to go around. I think the more probable thing is Michel leaves in FA and we get a 5th round comp pick back for him if he plays well this year. To me the additional salary cap we'll get from the cap raising and the Goff/Gurley dead $ coming off the books, will be spent on OL. Whitworth likely retires after this year and I doubt we will be moving forward with Noteboom at LT and no additional talent added. At least I sure hope not. Henderson though will be in the last year of a rookie contract and thb needs to stay healthy or he could be the odd man out. Wait this is different from what was reported earlier right? We gave them a 6th in 2022 and a 4th in 2023?

I will be very surprised if we don't add a back considered to be a starter or equal to Hendo.
I believe we are committed to the run game and the rb position equally.
My guess is the staff will want to take action to assure we can move forward
with equal commitment and confidence to the running game or as close as reasonably possible to pre Akers injury.
I love Hendo when he is on the field, keeping him there is my concern.
I hope they can land another. They made a huge investment in Stafford. At this point who knows how well Allen can pass block. I’d look to sign a veteran backup. One injury to Henderson or Michel and Funk or Jones are RB2.I don't think Snead is done working on the RB room just yet though........
These were some interesting words contained in the press releases below:
"Interestingly enough, though Michel ran behind more gap and pull schemes in 2020, he was more effective when running zone. That fits in with at least the 2020 version of the Rams, who, per Sports Info Solutions, had the second-most zone rushing attempts in the NFL last season".......
"he’s on the books for the Rams in 2021 with a cap charge of $3 million This makes Michel the cap-heaviest back on a Rams roster that wants to define the position inexpensively."

I like it more. The more picks for the 2022 draft the better imo.I like it a little bit less now, but still perfectly fine with it.
The 2022 draft will have a lot of draftable RBs. I think they look for another top back.Henderson though will be in the last year of a rookie contract and thb needs to stay healthy or he could be the odd man out. Pure projection on resigning Michel though.
A lot needs to happen before there are not enough carries to go around. Akers has to return in good form and Henderson needs to stay healthy. If they do, your scenario would be a good problem to have.I like Michel a lot but Akers/Michel/Henderson is a ton of talent in the backfield. Too much. Not enough carries to go around. Like a few of us were talking before the trade. Take a back every year or every other year no matter what. Just like OLine. The 2022 draft will have a lot of draftable RBs. I think they look for another top back.
And Michel needs to be signed. But that's for next off season. Now.....with JR's last tweet....the trade looks even better. A 2022 6th and a 2023 4th? Hell by then we could be 2 time defending Superbowl Champs! That's lower than pick #192 in 2022 and lower than #128 in 2023. I don't know how that can be painted as questionable.A lot needs to happen before there are not enough carries to go around. Akers has to return in good form and Henderson needs to stay healthy. If they do, your scenario would be a good problem to have.
Yeah that’s the same one they used twice. I don’t like setting the RB so close to the LOS, especially someone so young, they need to be able to see it better and step into the free rusher. Not the one I saw. Funk came up to the Ä" gap" close to the line of scrimmage. Evans' Tackle went inside. And the OLB took the OT outside. 2 delayed blitzers came right through the gap w/ one getting to Perkins. Now I don't know who had which assignment but usually an extra blitzer (or 2....) is the RB's responsibility. And he took himself out of the play early.
