Do we get a comp pick if Sony leaves?

Edit: Just saw JRs tweet, we do

Yeah but the Rams then have to give the Pats their 4th round pick. The deal specifies that if the Sony leaves and the Rams would likely get a 4th round pick, then the compensation converts from the 5th and 6th to the Ram's 4th round pick. So they lose ground.

But there is no way I see the Rams letting Sony walk and he won't have that many options. His rep will be as a busted 1st round pick. He doesn't have an elite resume in terms of production. Probably a 4 year $12M deal would seal it. But in reality, I don't think he will get that much unless there are escalators builtin to any contract.

Has there been an interview or statement from McVay on this trade?

Greatly needed pickup. As I have been saying Snead was working on this all along. It just takes time to get it all together.

Let's not forget Henderson has that great initial burst and the ability to break tackles.

The Rams have a solid 1-2 punch again. Sony Michel brings some good power, experience and blocking ability. Great connection with RB coach Brown to get him up to speed fast. Great value to cost.

It's on baby!

Mission accomplished. I don't care about a 4th or a 5th next year.

Listening to ESPN radio on the drive home and one of their clones was analyzing this trade and sure enough(i could smell it coming)...

"Eventually trading all these picks away to build your team is gonna backfire...they're going to get old...blah blah"

When? It's been 5 years. Youngest team in the league IIRC. The Rams are having their best 5 year run since.....???

Meanwhile i see the perennial bad/middling teams with all their perennial 1st rd picks with losing records, NOT making the playoffs and NOT winning playoff games. MAYBE Cleveland has turned the corner.

Media clones(clowns) regurgitating this stuff is nauseating.

Seems to me the Rams have figured out that draft picks are overvalued if you have a FO and coaching staff that can make the most of players drafted outside the first round.

For most of this new century before McSnead, it seemed like a pipe dream by relying on later round picks because of the disaster in the drafting process. Now I think what Snead and McVay are doing is sustainable, which still amazes me.

Wow! Thread winner. I'm so grateful. I just want to thank all the smart decisions by the front office that made this possible. And of course, rambitious1 for unequaled recognition of talent and Kay for looking like a whore expecting a customer during her home covid sessions. Seriously, she had more make-up than the other 3 guys combined.

But really, I think it shows just how much les snead is looking out for this generation of running backs and I encourage everyone to donate to the former patriot running back foundation by sending whatever small amount or transfer of car titles to whitenigerianprince.com
Lol. Did you just quote yourself and call your own post the thread winner??? I love it!

I like this trade a lot. Sony fits the criteria we needed...he's a bigger between the tackles type of back...the perfect compliment to Henderson, and a guy who's played winning football as a lead back in the NFL...

Im good now with Funk as our #3 RB...and I think X. Jones may be headed to the practice squad... I honestly think we can get another RB who could be an effective kick return guy for us....

After 11 pages of nothing but praise I want to be the first to say this trade sucks big time.

Next years draft is LOADED with late round talent.

Picks next year won't help us win a Super Bowl this year...in our own house.

Have to figure that it alters the focus of the scouts at least somewhat, whether that's smaller schools or just focusing on later round projected players all year

I like Michel a lot but Akers/Michel/Henderson is a ton of talent in the backfield. Too much. Not enough carries to go around. I think the more probable thing is Michel leaves in FA and we get a 5th round comp pick back for him if he plays well this year. To me the additional salary cap we'll get from the cap raising and the Goff/Gurley dead $ coming off the books, will be spent on OL. Whitworth likely retires after this year and I doubt we will be moving forward with Noteboom at LT and no additional talent added. At least I sure hope not. But who knows what we'll do.
Yeah I agree. Michel is a 99% likely departure in FA. Even if he kills it too. Rams seem to have balanced this deal around the projected comp pick they'll get for Michel when he rolls out. And if there's any team in the league who has seen first-hand how nuts it is to pay a RB it's the Rams.

Next offseason you let him roll on out in FA then you draft another RB midrounds or whatever for the pipeline and wait for your 2023 comp pick. Done deal.
