You might be right because he seems better suited to the right side. I only watched him with the Steelers and it was strictly on the left side what I saw. I was thinking muscle memory as far as this year was concerned.
Yep - Avila ain’t going nowhere, but as Demarco says. The Probowl. He really likes this guy (kid).
Anchrum has ZERO(1 game)starts.

When they drafted McClendon I feel they were drafting for a RG starter. But it takes time for a OT to make the transition to OG so I think this year they see him as being a swing OT. I said when Noteboom was sidelined for "health" reasons it probably was related to his Achilles injury, and still feel that way. I don't think he's a 100% and trying to compensate for that has impacted probably his knee and ankle. Considering his cap hit I think they will IR him for the year. They have to pay him $6.5M for this year regardless if they cut him or simply IR him. Then they can see how he returns next year before making a decision.

Avila has played both OG positions this year. From what I know Dotson has only played the left side. So it would seem logical to play Avila on the right which is the normal run side and Avila is the better run blocker. Muscle memory is a real thing. Dotson can be ready to play sooner if he doesn't have to contend with that. The Rams can switch them back if they want next off season.

When they traded for Corbett they started him right away. You don't trade for a player that is going to be a backup. Yep Anchrum has zero starts in 4 years. Dotson has started 30 of the 39 games he's played in. So why would they start Anchrum over him?

I would think they would start Thomas at RG over Anchrum if it came to that. The fact they wanted Noteboom to start over Anchrum says volumes. Anchrum plays only OG whereas Shelton and McAllister can play both center and OG. Thomas can play OT and OG both. McClendon bumps Bruss off the roster and IMO Dotson bumps Anchrum as well. Both could still make the PS and probably will ($11G / wk isn't chump change).

But we won't have to wait long to see what happens.

Did a little reading on Dotson.

He did play Right Guard as a rookie. He will be 27 in a couple weeks. The Rams will take-on a $2.7M cap hit.

I don't know that he is injury prone given his first three seasons. The only injury I saw was an ankle in his 2nd year, causing him to miss the final seven games. In his rookie season, Dotson missed a few games when he was on the COVID List.

My guess is that Dotson will start at RG because of the cap hit, and the Rams sensitivity to 2023 cap savings. As another poster reminded me a few weeks ago, cap space not used in 2023, can be carried-forward. I don't think they make this move with the expectation that he is a top reserve.

Yeah never heard of injuries with him
Dotson very durable. Apparently he was very good in pass protection his first year, however, last season gave up a couple of sacks, one that got Kenny Pickett concussed. So last year Dotson excelled at run blocking.

Obviously the Rams felt they needed more depth at the Guard position and this might lead to the release of Logan Bruss. Also maybe they don't rush Noteboom back and he becomes the swing tackle with Dotson ready to challenge Anchrum in a couple of weeks.

It doesn't take much to be better than all but 3 our our starters (AJ, Avila, Hav). If it's indeed an improvement among the rest of them then I'm all for it.

He's a decent player. I noticed he gets his share of holding calls, though. 8 in the last 26 games.
That would be roughly six a season. I've never thought to even get a sense of how few/many such calls the better lineman take but on it's face that doesn't sound horrible to me...

Glad to see McVay not being content with a “hope and prayer” strategy with the OL this year.

Yes. i don't think of Boom as starting quality, but I definitely don't want to lose him. Depth is crucial, and Boom could be one of the best backup tackles in the league.

I'm glad to have more depth on the OL, and potentially a starting OG, however, basically moving down 2 rounds in both draft and next years draft seems a bit of an overpay for a guy that may have been cut tomorrow. If we have a tough season, that 4th rounder is close to a late 3, Steelers never have a bad year, so their pick may be close to an early 6th. Not a fan of the compensation.

Also, if I recall correctly, when Dotson was starting for them, their line was kind of a disaster. Now that is not only on him, they did add new pieces since that time, but, he was a part of it. I'm hoping for the best, but kind of sick and tired of overpaying in every single trade.

This is what happens when the reality of a young backup QB settles in and you realize you are relying on an older QB with hard miles or bust.

I am glad they made the move. Fuck them picks.

Most Steeler fans I read say he was good his rookie year but regressed.

Yeah and according to several Steeler fan comments a number of them have said their gm did a number on us, and one guy called Dotson a drive killer. He's had his share of penalties per this link.

But we'll see. Maybe he gets more disciplined here... hopefully. Maybe McVay wants a body that's not always in the tub.

Those same steelers fans are worried it means somebody who had a worse camp makes the 53 as well so it's not all positive with them on this.

Just like here opposing fans opinion are fine in moderation and with salt

When you're the team in need, you tend to overpay. It doesn't matter if you're the seller or buyer. If a team contacts you, you low ball them.

From reading a broader range of opinion. He wasn’t a scheme fit. Said himself that he is a better, more natural, right guard but was played on the left. The false start penalties were partly due to his OL coach asking them to get an aggressive jump on the DL. He had trouble. He looks great - like pro bowl level good - when blocking on the move so looks like a great fit for how we will run the ball. He’s very solid at pass protecting, which is one reason they plugged him in at his less favoured position. We could have got a steal and he has the opportunity to earn a big contract if he delivers in the way that pundits and fans say. He was good but has the talent to be great. Snead has a very good track record so we should have some faith
