You got the change! I wonder how many times we can go through these threads and quote almost the exact phrase "anybody is better". How many times did you say that? I know I've read it at least from a dozen different people.
Yes but we just wanted Havrisik out. I highly doubt people had Maher in mind. People like myself saying we'd rather have Maher were saying it to simply point out how much Havrisik sucked ass. Didn't think it'd come to fruition. :laugh1:

I'm hoping Dustin Hopkins (Browns kicker) heals fast from his left hamstring injury. If Hopkins heals up before the playoffs, I'd expect the Browns would release Patterson. Patterson would be an upgrade over Maher IMO.

Fair enough I guess they thought the Rams would not bring back another kicker that had failed.
We've brought in many kickers that have failed. Some even turned it around. We've brought in many average kickers too. I kept asking the question and was criticized and some fools even thought I was backing Havirisk but I kept asking who out there was better. Well we got who McVay thought was better and ROD still isn't happy.

You know I responded each time who I thought was better. I would have looked at Matthew Wright, but McVay is tired at looking at kickers.

The guy I wanted the Giants signed off the Browns PS he never made a kick for them they waived him and he's on the Giants PS now. He was a 75% kicker last year but unlike Havirisk he has a big leg. It is what it is.

This guy.....

Just make the fucking PATs and anything inside 40. Otherwise run the 4 down offense to keep moving forward.

Kick the damn punts along the sidelines or out of bounds.

I for one am happy the Rams released Havrisik. Admittedly there aren't any great candidates out there. But yeah, I see Maher as a slight but significant upgrade over Havrisik.

I think Havrisik's FG% stats are inflated by going 8 for 8 on chip shots of 20-29 yards. Lucas was a dreadful 2 for 6 from the crucial 40-49 range.

By contrast, Maher was a respectable 7 for 9 from 40-49. And most of his misses came from 50 yards or more (Maher was 3 for 7 from 50+). Lastly, Maher has only missed one XP, while Havrisik has missed 3.

I think Patterson would be yet another step up from Maher, and I hope they sign him for the playoffs. But for now, if the Rams have to convert a crunch 45 yard kick, I'd much prefer Maher over Havrisik. It's truly a mystery to me why McVay stuck with Havrisik for so long. The evidence was overwhelming.

McVay "Bobby Evans" us every year. I don't know why but he does.

Maher is serviceable under 40 at least. Hopefully we don't have to rely on him in a high pressure, end of game kick.

This sounds encouraging:

"McVay said Monday that because the Rams have clinched a playoff spot, it "definitely changes a little bit of the dialogue in regards to what we know we have coming down the pipe."

"And so [we] wanted to get somebody in here that had some experience," McVay said. "... I think when you look at some of the earlier situations he was in, we asked him to attempt a lot of long field goals. He was fairly consistent when you're talking about some of those field goals from under 50 and in."

Earlier this season with Los Angeles, Maher was 7-of-7 on field goals under 40 yards, 7-of-9 on field goals from 40-49 yards and 3-of-7 on field goals 50 yards or longer."

He was perfect under 40, pretty good from 40-49, and only missed one XP.
Sounds like McVay is getting some sense to him about the super long FGs this year and will try a slightly different strategy.

Those long FG misses set up the other teams with some pretty nice field position.
